Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted November 16, 2002 Hopefully he can bring them up from the cespool of mediocrity. In other Cub news, apparently Roosevelt Brown signed with the Orix Blue Wave in Japan. Damn.

Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted November 16, 2002 Oh man, I can't wait for the fireworks that are going to happen in Chicago now... The Cubs are FINALLY going to make it to the World Series this year, trust me. If it weren't for those lousy Bears, Chicago sports would be looking really sweet, with the Bulls not embarassing themselves yet, the Cubs looking to be strong next summer, and the Blackhawks as a legitimate contender for the Stanley Cup. Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted November 16, 2002 Seeing how the Trib. doesn't like to spend $$$ regarding the Cubbies, I doubt they will be anywhere NEAR playoff contention in '03. But the Baker/Management conflicts are going to be GREAT...
Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 17, 2002 Fuck that...This will be the year we all see Sosa for what he really is...A egomanaic.
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted November 17, 2002 A question to Chicago fans: why were the Cubs so BAD last year? --Is it a problem with their lack of experience in some positions? --Several players not stepping up? --Injuries? (Farnsworth, Gordon, etc.) IMO, I would chalk it up to option #3, because the Cubs are either decent-good at every position. My prediction is that, if they don't attempt to sign I-Rod to fill the offensive void McGriff will leave, they'll finish 3rd in their division behind the Cards and Astros. Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted November 17, 2002 Bravesfan, there is a process that we in the city call being "Cubbed". See the company that owns the team does not care about winning. And so thier managers don't care about winning, and so thier players don't care about winning. Players who do care, bitch and moan non stop and sometimes get traded, Mark Grace was a good example. The reason it's funny that Baker manages the Cubs is because Baker wants to win. He'll ask the tribune to trade for pitching, to sign free agents, to get rid of Sosa, but they won't do it. Baker will be pissed, and the team will continue to suck.

Okay, I do know alot about the stinginess of the Cub owners, the Tribune Company (or whatever their name is). Shit, they bitched about the apartments parallel to Wrigley, that were watching the games from their rooftops. I didn't know that losing mentality stretched down to the players as well, though. Guest alkeiper Report post Posted November 17, 2002 A question to Chicago fans: why were the Cubs so BAD last year? Not a Chicago fan, but I think injuries sums it up. Look at the pitching staff. It was a patchwork staff during the 2nd half. They lost their 20 game winner to injury for the year, and nothing came together.

Shit, they bitched about the apartments parallel to Wrigley, that were watching the games from their rooftops. It's not so much that the tenants were watching games from the roof (which is fine by all means) but that they set up bleachers on the rooftops and charge people to sit there, therefore infringing on Wrigley ticket sales. My newspaper of choice is in the right this time, IMO.
