WWF's Biggest Talent Mistakes

Recommended Posts

Guest JAxlMorrison

I'm just gonna go for a top five here

1. The Giant/Big Show

A ten year contract? I mean, yeah stealing him from WCW was good for the short term, could've been good to pop a rating, but a ten year contract? When will Vince realize the fans do not want to see big, tubby fatasses?

2. Giant Gonzales

Thank God he wasn't around for too long, but he did pollute a Wrestlemania. Why hire a guy who has never, ever put on a decent match or shown an ounce of charisma?

3. Buff Bagwell

Hadn't been able to even put on a passable match since his neck injury, mostly due to lack of effort. Will forever be remembered or his "chinlock of doom" that actually did doom the WCW Invasion angle.

4. Mark Henry

The jury may be out on this one if he comes back from Ohio and surpasses all expections ten fold. But again, a big fat weightlifter? C'mon Vince, who really gives a shit about the Olympics anyways, especially the juiced up sloth division of weightlifting....especially when the guy almost finishes last! I doubt even a gold medal winning olympic wrestler could get over.....oh, right.....

5. Ronnie Garvin

Terrible, terrible pick up. "The Garvin Stomp"? That was less believable then the People's Elbow for Christ's sake! And he was already hated for being WCW's lame duck champ who never defended the damn things for months so he could "train". LOL

Well Let's see... bossman, big show, mark henry, buff bagwell.

and dean malenko...don't get mad, deano just wasn't designed for the wwf and i wished he had stayed in wcw or went back to ecw. wwf fans jst never really appreciated what a great talent he was, same goes for  saturn.

Both Dusty and Dustin Rhodes......moreless has/had made a fool out of both of their careers. Once both of them returned to WCW after their stints, they were never the same.

Public Enemy........what, did they last like 3 weeks or something?

Worst of them all had to be Lex Luger. First they packaged him in the WBF, which failed. You would have thought that right off the bat they would actually put him in the WWF, he just was world champ like a month before. From that point on it really never got better....they tried to turn him into something big but they didn't book it right when the time came....SummerSlam 93 & WM X virtually killed any hope of getting Luger over in a WWF ring ever.

How about Brakus.  They forgot to check and see if he had any wrestling talent first.

Kronik may be the all-time most pointless WWF signing though.  WTF was that?

It's pretty obvious that they only signed Jerry Lynn so that WCW wouldn't pick him up. The old "the writers don't have anything for him" is a load of crap, if you sign Jerry Lynn, you should know what to expect. He was never good on the mic in ECW, did Vince think that letting him do ONE promo from WWF NY during a PPV would catapult him to success?

I also don't see why the WWF signed Albert, but that's because he's crap in the ring AND on the mic. At least Lynn is good at one of those 2 things..

Metallica, I'm pretty sure that the WWF didn't hire Jerry Lynn to keep WCW away.  By the time that Lynn stepped into a WWF ring for the first time, WCW had already been part of their empire, and even if they signed him earlier than that, WCW was not in a position to hire any new talent with the impending sale.

As for this question, I don't see the purpose of re-hiring Bossman as he obviously can't cut it anymore, and pretty much has zero angles, workrate, etc.

I would have to ask what the hell the WWF was thinking when they hired Benoit. In a federation where we have such true talents as the undertaker, albert, bigshow and even lance storm, i just can't see where this vanilla midget even fits in. Hes got the charisma of a mailbox and the moveset of a weasel and has a fetish for sticking objects down his trunks thats distrubing. I would say the WWF should get rid of him and save themselves the embarrassment of ever having to say he works there.

Ignoring all jokes posts.....

I'd say Bossman, Goldust, Perfect, Justin Credible, Albert, Kaientai, and Tajiri. I have nothing against Kaientai or Tajiri, but other then maybe two runs at high end feuds(Venis, Regal), they just completely buried them to the point that neither of of them are over anymore which is pretty sad.

This gimmick sees Benoit as the antithesis of what he is. Amazing how many gimmicks this board has.

I'd have to go with Justin Credible, Tommy Dreamer, and Raven.

I, for one, don't think Dreamer really had a chance, because of his look and his shape.

Raven and Credible were top teir ECW superstars.  Raven had a lot of success in WCW as well, and he had an extremely marketable gimmick.  They were thrown into the Invasion clusterfuck and never given a chance.

Thank God Rhyno got injured when he did, because I have a feeling we wouldn't be seeing ANY of him right about now, either.

Christ it kills me to see the waste of talent WWF really has been giving us in their product.

The split better be the answer or you can kiss the WWF's credibility goodbye real soon.

I will assume this means talent that should never have been signed (ex. Giant Gonzales), as opposed to talent that has been misused (ex. Hurricane).

1)  Mark Henry - What the hell were they thinking?  At least Big Show was good in WCW before he got signed, but this guy hadn't even stepped in a ring.  As a plus, his failure might have convinced the WWF to push Angle as a heel three years later.

2) Giant Gonzales - Flair couldn't get a good match out of him.

3) Buff Bagwell - The WWF should have known better.

4) Kronik - Likewise.

5) David Sammartino - Whoops.

Guest Some Guy

I think that Bossman would have been a good idea if they never let him wrestle and kept him as a bodyguard.  Actaully I've felt that way about a lot of there signings, in fact I think that Big Show should be Jericho's bodyguard.

Mr. Hughes was a terrible signing.  A guy with no talent in the ring or on the mic with a history of drug problems who has failed in 2 previous runs with the WWF, 1 only lasting a few weeks (Jan 97).  WTF was Vince thinking on this one?  If anything he hurt Jericho's heat.

Now, while you are trying to be sarcastic, I am deadly serious. Test has no redeeming qualities what so ever.

Test, Albert, Big Show, they just suck a five assed monkey's 5 asses.

Tajiri, DDP, Almost all lightweights, Booker T, with these guys, it's just serious misuse of talent.

Sure test has redeeming qualities. He sucks thus we have someone to mock. If we had no one to whine about this board would shut down.

the point is that the wwf needs test so after he's done for the night no matter what we enjoy the next match more.

I bet the WWF regrets the signings of the Big Show & Mark Henry. I think both guys have 10 year contracts.

I think Tiger Ali Singh desrves a mention here. He has absolutely no heat and I'll never forgive the fact they killed all D'Lo's heat pairing LODown with him. I still get nightmares thinking of those turbans.

I don't think dropping Droz helped.
