Yeah so I saw them unplugged, shoot me I think they're passable since they seem to have such good vocals.

I know they've been played at countless proms, overplayed, etc. But do you like the songs? Not even so much the whiney lyrics, but the songs themselves?

I say take a pass on it unless you like trying to sort out your own personal self-loathing through the vague self-loathing and depression of someone speaking from their own personal experience with shitty guitar riffs that make people tired and sleepy.

Horrible live show...Crying baby Lead...Somewhat passable Riffs...if not for their owners...Might be one of the worst bands ever.

I have always thought they were pretty talented. Too talented to be mixed up with Fred Durst and his bullshit.

I think Staind is an alright group. Not my favorite, though, but still good. "Fade" is my favorite song.

I haven't actively listened to the album, although it's inexplicably been played in my presence on a couple of occassions. From what I can gather, there's a lot of whining about parents and domestic problems in general. Not abstract stuff, either. Just straightforward "my parents were fucked up" complaining. Temper that with some totally generic hard rock instrumentation and you've got what might be one of my least favorite bands ever. I can how it must have put dollar signs in the eyes of misery-peddling record executives, though, so there's no real question as to how they've gotten as popular as they have.

A definitive nay, as if you needed to ask.

Alice in Chains did it first and better.

Yeah, and Staind doesn't even have the ghastly Layne Staley vocals to break up the monotony. It's like one of those sludgy Jerry Cantrell solo albums that no one owns.

THAT'S the other thing. Though I no longer enjoy AiC like I once did, Staley was a fucking haunting vocalist. His voice would pierce your very soul; Staind's Aaron Lewis should contract throat cancer, so that the world would be spared of any further musical crime.

EDIT: Did I cross the line in this post?

No jury would convict you. The fact that he's a shitty vocalist who deserves to be strung up from a tree by his testicles and batted around like a pinata is not classified information.

Yeah, but I'd rather not be viewed as an elitist snob. Then again, I wasn't aware Lewis was in the same category as Durst in terms of "People Who It's Okay to Wish Serious Illness Upon." Glad to know he is.

I'm glad that the rules of this board are only enforced against people no one much likes anyway. Flaming outside of NHB, and wishing people dead pretty much rules.

Well, with all the crybaby lyrics and a live show that consists of him rocking back and forth...he was really asking for it. I would put Kid Rock into that catergory as well, for what it's worth. I truly and genuinely despise him and can honestly say that his grizzly death would fill me with the giddiness of a schoolgirl.

Yeah, I wish Steven Tyler was dead too, preferably by OD'ing before he kicked the habit.

While we're at it, Robin Williams ceased to be funny when he stopped shoving a rolled up $20 bill in his nose.

I never saw any allure to Robin Williams' style of comedy. He's just this moronic fuzzy goofball who does funny voices at random intervals. Fuck him. He should die.

And Gene Simmons. Were I to go out in a blaze of murderous glory, I'd take pompous cunt with me above all others.

Have you ever seen any 70s footage of Robin Williams? The guy was surreal. He would start quoting passages of Shakespeare--long passages, too--during his act. Plus, his humor didn't rely on annoying voices; his early work was akin to a genuine performance, not a stand-up routine. When he stopped doing coke, it was all downhill.

When he stopped doing coke, it was all downhill.

I wonder, historically, how many people that sentence could apply to.

I was thinking of him, too, but I guarantee he was still doing coke in the 70s and it didn't help his creative output any.

True. Just as I posted that, it occured to me that he was most likely coked to the gills during the entire history of Wings.

AIC did the drugged-out depressed thing better than anyone due to awesome songwriting, great lyrics and vocals, and the ability to mix things up. Staind is as bland as boiled skinless chicken, but AiC was more like boiled heroin.
