Guest Youth N Asia Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 What show was that on where Pillman said that? I've heard about it but never seen it. And feel free to post thoughts and turn it into an actual discussion thread it you want to. Thanks
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 That would've been WCW Superbrawl VI, and the show sucked.
Guest RedJed Posted November 19, 2002 Report Posted November 19, 2002 Ehh, that show wasn't that bad. Savage and Flair had a decent cage match with the Liz turn, and some of the undercard was great too. The whole Pillman thing was huge at the time, thats for sure. I remember getting a dirt sheet called the Wrestling Tribune at the time and they were moreless thinking initially it was all a shoot since there was no talk that the boys were being worked. Sullivan, Bisch, and Pillman were smart about all of this and really kept the entire thing under wraps. And then even went so far as allowing Pillman to go to ECW, which again, shocked the shit out of me. He was going back and forth from ECW shots and then doing weird shots running around in the crowd, etc.......I think they even set up a 900 number for him or something?! Then it all went to shit with the accident and then Pillman jumped to the WWF, but still kept the gimmick, and the stuff with Austin in his house continued the loose cannon image legitimately. I still to this day think that Pillman would have turned into a huge star if he wouldn't have died when he did, in WWF, ECW, or WCW. Each organization did alot of good stuff with him in this role when they had him for it. They were just touching the tip of the gimmick.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted November 20, 2002 Report Posted November 20, 2002 Any show where Flair wins the title is decent for that reason alone.
Guest Eagan469 Posted November 20, 2002 Report Posted November 20, 2002 I remember getting a dirt sheet called the Wrestling Tribune shit - I thought I was the only one here who used to get Wrestling Tribune Yeah, they used to put up stories about how Bobby Heenan "legitamately feared for his life" every time Pillman came to the ring and such. Good old mark days...
cawthon777 Posted November 20, 2002 Report Posted November 20, 2002 That show was crap. Flair winning the title was cool (esp since he bladed) but when the title was going from Savage to Flair to Savage to Flair every month, it didn't mean much. Hogan / Giant in a cage...buahahahahahahahahaha. I couldn't get ECW at the time but I remember seeing Pillman at random Nitros several weeks after the whole Bookerman incident and Bischoff would say something like "What? Why is that nut in here? Someone get him out of this arena!" Had me fooled.
Guest J*ingus Posted November 20, 2002 Report Posted November 20, 2002 I remember how Bruce Mitchell did a long article right after the PPV, claiming the whole thing was a work and predicting that Pillman would run off to the WWF soon. Frighteningly accurate.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted November 20, 2002 Report Posted November 20, 2002 On the commercial release of Superbrawl 6, which is what I have, they've edited the match. Rather than "I respect you, booker man!" They cut out the booker man part. So Pillman yells "I RESPECT YOU", and that's it. Kinda takes away from it, but I love Pillman, so I don't complain.
Guest converge241 Posted November 20, 2002 Report Posted November 20, 2002 yes he had a 900 number and when he held a sign for it in the crowd on Nitro he got a ludicrous amount of calls/business..i believe it got overloaded at one point
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted November 22, 2002 Report Posted November 22, 2002 I still to this day think that Pillman would have turned into a huge star if he wouldn't have died when he did, in WWF, ECW, or WCW. His wrestling skills were almost gone by then, but that never stopped anyone else from becoming a star I guess.

And they edited Flair's blood into black and white. Once Flair blades and there's any shot where you can tell Flair is bleeding, Flair's head is in black and white, and they use shitty camera angles to not show the blood.
Guest dreamer420 Posted November 23, 2002 Report Posted November 23, 2002 Editing like that it retarded. I say don't run angles if you aren't willing to show them on your video tapes.
Guest bob_barron Posted November 23, 2002 Report Posted November 23, 2002 Yea- I couldnt enjoy Flair v. Savage too much because of the way they tried to hide the blood. Editing out the bookerman thing was pretty funny
