These shows just don't get it. I got home from work and right as a walked through the door what do I hear coming from the anchor on the 20/20 "special" "How many lovers did Princess Diana have, and was she ever truly in love" What in the fucking fuck........Isn't it idiotic stories like this that helped pave the way for the paparrazi blitz that played a big part in her death?? Why are people intrigued if Princess Diana was in love or had lovers....aren't there about 1,000 things more newsworthy and/or important to have a 20/20 "special" about....??????

Its not news..its FARK.com..

Oh wait.

None of these shows air actual news. They are primarily just interesting stories worth treating like serious "news" for ratings.

Remember, this is the November Sweeps period for ratings..

They're called newsmagazines for a reason. If you want REAL news, tape the 6:30 network broadcasts.

And believe it or not, some people are actually interested in such tripe. If they weren't, People and National Enquirer and other publications wouldn't still be around.

Care Just Because They're Rich And/Or Famous? Bah.

We believe it, we just can't understand it.

Sorta off topic, but what was the big deal with Princess Diana. I felt bad for her family and friends when she died, but people saying she should be a Saint like Mother Teresa, and her death being close to 9/11 in terms of impact on history.

That's a good question, Vern. I've pondered it myself many times and I just can't come up with anything rational. Maybe people look up to her in some kind of heroine-like way; she was where they'd like to be, instead of caught up in their own miserable little hum-drum lives.

I don't know. Princess Di does not seem special in any way. In fact, the only thing about her that's apparent to me is that she was a HUGE slut.

It wasn't a big deal, it wasn't news, it was just RATINGS~!

The news constantly latches onto certain events and stick to it, whether or not they're actual important events.

Because Princess Diana stories still sell.

Much like the Jon Benet Ramsey junk in the tabloid rags.

How in the HELL can someone even try to compare Princess Diana to Mother Teresa? I've hated that comparision ever since I first heard it. Princess Diana never was anything special, she just married in the Royal Family. Big deal.

She cheated on her husbadn and was linked to a bunch of other guys during her life. She was more of a media craetion and an armpiece for the Prince than anything special. But the British loved her and she indirectly died because of that.

Thank you, Some Guy. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Yea, that was pretty much it. Like the Queen Mother. Man, one day the queen went to McDonalds, and for about a week it was all over the news. Stuff like that. Does it make sense? No, not really. Kinda like JFK's wife, minus the "Sorry your husband died on national television" stuff.

Yeah, that's kinda a bit different, Samurai Goat :)

That whole "Sorry your husband died on national television" stuff was probably warrented, haha.

I must admit the story on Di was BS, but she was more than just some British idol, she did do some good. Lots of charity work, especially about removal of landmines from random third world countries. She visited children, and helped to raise a lot of awareness in the UK. Though I would never compare her to Mother Theresa, or support her becoming a saint, she was more than just some Cinderella type story. She tried to do what she could to help.

Now, in defense of some shows like 20/20, they do sometimes have valid material, such as crash test ratings on cars, exposing rip off industries, and even some good health information. I do admit that most times it is just fluff though, stories about septuplites, murder mysteries, stomanch staplings (I'll never get over those, they are just awful).
