Guest Downhome Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 The two selling points seem to be either: 1. "Dude, it's METROID." 2. "Dude, the GRAPHICS." You forgot about... 1. "Dude, this is one f*cking great game!" 2. "Dude, it's Super f'n Metroid in 3D!" 3. "Dude, the gameplay and flow of game is out-f'n-standing!" ...just thought I'd remind you of those. :D
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 I have to agree. Graphics and sound are phenomenal... but the gameplay is just as good.
Guest EQ Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 Prime is better than Vice City IMO. I suspect both games will be in the running for GOTY, but I see Prime snagging it. GTA3 deserved it last year. It was literally groundbreaking... on several levels. Vice City is an awesome game, but there's not much new compared to GTA3. This year, I don't think there's anything out that's as good as Prime.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted November 28, 2002 Report Posted November 28, 2002 1. "Dude, this is one f*cking great game!" 2. "Dude, it's Super f'n Metroid in 3D!" 3. I still haven't seen any amazing REAL gameplay experiences yet. All the drool spewing and semen shooting is because of retarded stuff, like how the jump boots work just like they remember them or something. Again, you gotta remember, I was thumbs in the middle leaning down towards Super Metroid after playing it long enough to have formed an opinion and fighting a few bosses, and I have never played any other Metroid games (I played Sega back in the day), so Prime has to have something more than the word Metroid in the title to blow me away. So far in my game, the enemies seem to be distinguished as either: * Annoying bugs * Ice Creatures * Weird electromagnetic things * One lava creature * Variety of space priate guy (Running Guy, Jetpack Guy, Invisible Guy) * Metroid * Passives (Mushrooms, Tentacles, floating gasbags) Combat is NOT the strong suit, but I've harped on that already. The levels are HUGE, and you could literally spend hours just killing time exploring in this game. That'd be awesome, except the hud probes you and keeps telling you where to go. EQ: Prime is better than Vice City IMO. I suspect both games will be in the running for GOTY, but I see Prime snagging it. GTA3 deserved it last year. I'd be the first to concede that GTA needs to go ahead and make a multiplayer game if they wish to be lauded as groundbreaking again, but taking a sub-par FPS with crappy AI, a passable-to-decent graphics engine, and crappy controls, and just putting it in trappings of a game that will have every guy who played the NES as an 7 year old screaming 'OH MY GOD BEST GAME EVER' is not a formula for innovation, either.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted November 29, 2002 Report Posted November 29, 2002 Well...I hate Metroid too. But I still think Prime is the best game I've played this year.
Guest RenegadeX28 Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 Prime is game of the damn year for me. Ok, Vice City, yes, it had a bigger city, yes, it had more weapons, yes, it had more cars and stuff, but in general, the game didn't do much for me. I was so hyped to play VC, but after playing it for like 10 minutes, it felt like the same experience I had with GTA3. I already experience the feeling, so I got bored with it. Prime, man, I love playing the game. I haven't gotten the chance to play it, because of the holiday. I am about to get the Varia Suit.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted December 28, 2002 Report Posted December 28, 2002 Screw you if you hate Metroid Prime. This game rules more than any game I've played since Mario 64. The only bad thing about it is that all I've done for the past 2 days is play it..although somehow Im still not even close to beating it..(24%)
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Aww....fvck it..My game just froze and I hadn't saved in a while.. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I guess I know the answer to the question about whether or not the game crashes/freezes up..
Guest Mattdotcom Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Mine froze up a few days ago, but luckily I had just started. I was on a transport elevator, where were you Marvin? I think I suck at Metroid. I got it for Christmas, have been playing for about 2:50, and I'm only 15% through. How far are you guys/what is your time?
Guest Flyboy Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 I got my game 2 days after Christmas and I'm only 7% done. In the Magmoor Caverns when you're the Morph Ball and going across the rail I ALWAYS fall in the lava.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 I finally was able to backtrack (redo what I had done before it froze on me) to get the Ice Beam. Im up to 29% and 8:25..that 8:25 is because I make sure to scan just about everything that I can in the room, its the only way to beat the game at 100% although I think I have still missed a ton of stuff. Supposedly there are 3 endings based on the % : less than 74%, 75-99% and 100%, with 100% supposedly being the coolest ending ever seen in a game or something.. My next goal is to get the Gravity suit... Chozo ghosts are bastards too. They pop up in just about every area that you had been in and cleared when you have to backtrack back to the Phendrana Drifts from the Chozo Ruins..
Guest Mattdotcom Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Oh..........fuck. Percentile determines the ending? I was hoping it'd be time like all the other Metroid games. I'm gonna have to get the player's guide or something. GameFAQs can only do so much.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Yeah. Pretty much the only way to get 100% is scan every last scannable item (which could seemingly take forever..). That also means you'll have to find every hidden area, hidden weapon upgrade and energy canister (which of course will all be of extremely good use towards defeating (the boss) Metroid Prime..) Also take into note that some items, are scannable more than 1 time, but you can easily miss the first scan and you wouldn't be able to get the first scan back, meaning you missed a scan and no 100% for you!..
Guest Flyboy Posted January 2, 2003 Report Posted January 2, 2003 Looks like I won't be reaching 100%.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Ok, Im up to 42%, but I have 50% of the stuff scanned so it unlocked a gallery on the main screen with some conceptial art of Samus that you can look at. Only 14 items, nothing to detailed or shocking..
Guest Flyboy Posted January 9, 2003 Report Posted January 9, 2003 Bleh. I'm stuck in the Magmoor Caverns.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 11, 2003 Report Posted January 11, 2003 53% 16:35 time The Game now can be called Samus: Artifact Hunter
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 24, 2003 Report Posted January 24, 2003 Wow..I hadn't played it in a while, and I just sat down and played it for like 3 hours.. 70% 20:27 Game Time All 12 Artifacts Currently battling Meta-Ridley..
