Has wrestling ever subconciously affected you?

Recommended Posts

Guest Lord of The Curry

Today I was walking to work and I had Chris Benoits "Whatever" song by Our Lady Peace playing on the headphones and noticed that slowly but surely I was becoming Chris Benoit. I was staring at the world with a pissed off look, swinging my arms like him and cracking my neck from side to side like him.

This shit every happen to anybody else?

I've found myself on occasion doing the following or using the following phrases....

- "Sucka"<---- is getting used more and more frequently

- the RVD thumb pointing motion

- the Kenta Kobashi "fighting spirit" fist pose

I've also taken to flashing the 4 fingers in about every single photo that is taken of me.

What aboot all of ya'll?

I use "job" and "mark" all the time. Like I mark for Paul Newman and the Bengals are ultimate jobbers. And I've been trying to get "shooting the Horsemen" to replace saying hello for years.

I've noticed that if I'm listening to the Drowning Pool version of "Play the Game," I get this pissed off thing going on and for some reason I'll toss my head back, even though I don't have long hair.

The "Can you dig it . . . (delayed) SUCKA!" gets used alot. And I tend to turn my head when I shift my attention with a quick snap like the Rock does. That's actually habit now, sadly.

Spider- Yeah, I've found that happens to me if "The Game" is ever on the cd player, I just tend to flex my (lack of) muscles and act angry.

Then, sometimes, I go out and bury people with politics.

When Brock makes his entrance, I get off my ass and do his hop. I just love the big guy so much... err, not *that* way.

Back in '98 till around late '99, I kept doing the People's Eyebrow in almost every picture I got taken of me.

Ever since I was in 7th grade, I'd kind of strut around with wrestling theme music in my head. Back then it was "Ravishing" Rick Rude. A few years ago it was HBK and Austin (someone even asked me, "why are you moving your head like that?" b/c I was doing SCSA's head-jerk thing). And today it's, uh, Victoria (I mark for her, OK??).

I also use "mark out" in my everyday vocabulary ("I totally marked out when I saw Nina at the end of '24'"). Sometimes I use variations of "can you dig it" ("yeah, I can dig that") ?

whenever i see a fight scene on tv or in a movie, i'll think about it in wrestling terms. like at the end of spider-man, when spider-man had gone behind green goblin, the first thing i thought was "german suplex."

I use terms like "sell", "job", and "mark out" in everyday language.

And godthedog, I think of the exact same things whenever I see choreographed movie fights.

Back in 7th Grade, a friend and I were walking down a MAJOR West Philadelphia street doing the Double J strut. If I was me now looking at me then doing what I was doing, I'd kick my own ass!

That's right....also, I can't tell you how many crotch chops I've given during DX's heyday.

I'll do the Double-Thumbs every now and again, and I used to do Val Venis' little strut ALL THE FRIGGIN' TIME.

Also, I'll go into Kobashi's "You're going to get such a fuckin' lariat" pose and throw lariats at people. I used to only to it to people who knew what it was, but lately, I've been doing it to everyone.

And I too, tend to go into someone's character when listening to their theme songs. It's sad, really.

I tend to think I'm Mikey Whipwreck, now and then. His 2000 gimmick, of course. With the CoopStuff bowling shirt and the red hair.

I've told this story a bunch of times over the past few days.

See, I'm built like a fucking bear, and therefore, when I'm in a pit, I feel like it's my duty to stiff guys who are potatoing girls who shouldn't be in the pit. (Note: Use of 'stiff' and 'potato,' also.) My personal favorite way to let the guys know they should quit bullying is to either use the Vader Attack (run at the guy. Clap one hand on either side of his neck. For some reason, even in real life, people sell this like a gunshot) or the Mongolian chop.

I also use a lot of the phrases like 'mark out' and 'job,' but I figured that was the most bizarre thing I could share.

I also tend to play wrestling music in my mind and start getting into the characters. Back when I worked at Sam's Hell, I'd tend to walk like Austin when I walked around the store or get this really pissed off look when playing Benoit's Vol. 5 music in my head. Also, I had a friend that worked there with me that was HUGE Rock fan and I'd routinely do Rock's spiel whenever he wore shades(I wear glasses) just to get a laugh out of him or anyone else.

As far as my vocabulary, I have also started using "sucka", "mark out", "sell", "face", and "heel" all in everyday life...

I sometimes do what I call 'The Rock's walking with a purpose' thing that he used to walk like.

Thanks to Booker T I say stuff like: I dig, I dig that, I can dig and all that stuff.

I say mark-out a lot as well

I actually attempted (notice the word 'attempted' instead of 'did') the Mr. Perfect gum spit / smack gimmick while walking back to my car after class today. Used to do it a lot years ago.

In my religion class earlier tonight, the professor played a insanely boring chant thing on the CD player that lasted a good 15 minutes. Right when we all thought it was over ... a moment of silence and it starts right back up to our dismay. I completely marked out and thought "FALSE FINISH! FALSE FINISH!"

I do the Muta-style mist after showers, complete with the hand on the neck gesture.

I salute Nagata-style occasionally to greet people.

I think of ways to get pro-wrestling moves on in a shoot fight.

Warrior's music plays in my head whenever I run down this narrow corridor at work. Occasionally I'll actually hum it.

I feign Yakuza Kicks at my friends.

Nope, hasn't affected me one bit.

During the Gold medal hockey game at the Olympics, I was imploring one of the players who had been hit to blade, since blood draws an automatic penalty for the opposing team.

I always try to mock the wrestlers 'poses' that they do when they are promoting the matches. I've been doing Victoria's a lot lately, I just like the way she motions for you to come to her, and then she punches her first.

I've been known to dance around like the wrestlers whenever their music is playing. I've been hopping around like Brock Lesnar a lot since I bought Anthology.

I tend to do Tajiri's little one shoulder hunched walk, usually with an evil-ass grin on my face. Scares the shit out of everyone.

I also use some of the terminology (job, sell, etc..) and throw Yakuzas at people. I'm working on the gum slap. I'm at about 80% accuracy at hitting the gum when it comes out of my mouth.

I use all the terminology, no matter what. Explanations come later. I tell girls who I'm not really pursuing that I've buried myself if I say something incredibly stupid. I also use face, tweener, heel, SWERVE~! and other stuff in everything, especially TV and movies. I was all kayfabe talk while seeing The Fast and the Furious for the first time tonight, going far enough to call it an abortion of a movie and saying that it had a Sportz Entertainment finish.

I also sell everything that people do to me, to the point where my family thinks I'm incredibly fragile. A tap by my uncle will result in me acting as if I were shot, for instance. It's great with girls though, as their little love taps turn into devastating Roaring Elbows and stuff. I like to think that if I ever wrestled, I'd just be a selling and bumping machine, because my actual attempts at fake offense suck.

I always act like The Rock. Snap my head from side to side, the eyebrow, everything up to smelling the air, which I do also. When I was in school, I'd do the Austin BMF walk.

Fo sheez,

Kotzenjunge

...and I thought that I was the only one obsessed with Lesnar's hopping taunt.

Whenever I have a wrestling theme stuck in my head, I begin "channeling" the spirit of the wrestler. Whenever I have Booker's theme emblazoned in my subconscience, I begin to look at my hand, shake my head violently in different directions, and do that jumping hand-pose. With Brock's theme, comes the hop in 4 different directions. "One of a Kind" gets me to do a full 360-degree spin into the double-thumbs.

I'm glad I'm not the only male who's been doing Victoria stuff (I like that pose of hers too).

And yeah, the release of Anthology has resulted in a lot of old-school wrestler impressions. I burned a bunch of Anthology MP3s to CD, and when I was doing the laundry over the weekend, Jake's theme came on. So I picked up my laundry bag and slung it over my shoulder as if I was carrying Damien around.

Damn, this brought back oh so many memories.

I also did the Jake the Snake Laundry Bag thing as well around the house as a young kid.

Anyone ever take that Red cough spray shit and spray all over their faces and cut a Savage Promo in the bathroom? I did.

I'VE ALWAYS DONE the Perfect Gum Spit...Even during my own wedding.

I always have a Theme song on my head...Often I walk to my office with a feeling of being Austin and when I get to the door, I turn into the rock...I look at the door...pause..cock my head...take a deep breath and whisper "Finally".

Me and By best friend would often cut promos for Class speeches...I was so the Greatest Flair imitator of all time and he would do HBK (This was in High School in 1996).

I even remember when we Protrayed Nash/HBK (I played Nash, since I was taller) and we do the oh so cool pose (Nash standing with Arm raised and Shawn with the arm flex).

I would often do the NWO thing as a hello...I even remember as a 9 year old, Imitating Hogan pretending the hallway was a Arena and the lockers were the fans...I'd slap all the lockers as if they were fans hands.

I even wore a towel around my neck and toss it in the air as I spit my gum and swated it away ala Perfect in the locker room walking out of the shower.

I often stood with the Taz pose during my fathers races for hours...

When my father won the race...I'd climb the door and stand utop of the hood with the Raven Cruxifix pose...I did the whole lay down on the corner with one leg spread and one bent when repairing the car...pretending that I was thinking about something...

I would sometimes do the Randy Savage Hand Twirlly and spin thing when I entered a Room.

and lastly...When I hit a home run (got a lot) I actually did the Thumb Pose LONG before RVD ever came around and did it but i never used my Initals, just my number.

I was cold when I woke up this morning so I put my robe on and strutted downstairs for breakfast.

I'm *this* close to buying glue and sparkles and writing "Nature Boy" in sparkly sequins on the back of my robe.
