Sega Sports+Gamecube=No

Any Sega Sports fans will be disappointed when they hear that starting at the end of this year Sega Sports will not be making any more GameCube games. A sign of things to come? Hopefully not.

 

Earlier today in Japan, Sega released its financial results for the last six months, which showed that its operating profit was down 20 percent from the previous year, with revenue down 3 percent. The company still posted a net profit of 1.01 billion yen (about $8 million). Sega said it has been harder than expected to become a cross-platform publisher, and that its initial plans to transition from its hardware-based model were overly optimistic.

A Dow Jones report said that Sega is focusing on improving profits in its "loss-making" sports game operations in the US, which Sega has had big hopes for. While Sega doesn't plan to back down from its fierce competition with Electronic Arts on other platforms, it will completely halt GameCube sports game development as of next year.

Nintendo should have something big up their sleave if they wanna compete. They let Rare go over to Microsoft, only habr one online game(PSO) and hasn't released a GC with DVD playback out in North America yet.

For those gamers that only have a GC, this will likely be a loss, but let's face it: if Sega's games weren't selling that well anyway, the audience must not be totally there. They can play EA Sports' games instead.

Nintendo does not need sports games to make a profit all it needs is another Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh game which can use the GBA and that new card reader thingy.

GC is no more kiddie than the PS2 or Xbox IMO. All 3 systems have games that cater to younger players.
