Guest Flyboy Report post Posted November 22, 2002 Interesting topic that I don't think it's been done before. My vote goes to Guns N' Roses "One In A Million". Why, you ask? Police and niggers That's right Get out of my way Don't need to buy none of your Goldchains today I don't need no bracelets Clamped in front of my back Just need my ticket till then Won't you cut me some slack Immigrants and faggots They make no sense to me They come to your country And think the do as they please Like start a mini Iran Or spread some fucking disease They talk so many goddamn ways It's all greek to me I'm black, and I still love that song... Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted November 22, 2002 For some reason 2 nights in a row that damn thing was playing when I was going through a Burger King drive through and of course the guy at the window was black...it just wouldn't be ironic otherwise. Nothing you can do but crouch in your seat hoping nothing happens. You could list countless Eminem songs here.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted November 22, 2002 You could list countless Eminem songs here. I was going to mention that in my original post, but I forgot to.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted November 22, 2002 While plenty of Em's songs are offensive, I don't find any of them as offensive as "One in a Million." Em cathartically raps about killing his wife as an emotional release, and he calls people "faggots" as an insult, but I never heard him express hatred toward gays. To me that's a whole different thing then saying "like start a mini Iran or spread some fucking disease."
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 22, 2002 Hasn't Rose said in his defense that it isn't him saying that? It's a story told by another character.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted November 22, 2002 But, still... The point is that he went on and sang the song anyways.
Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted November 22, 2002 If One in a Million was on TSG album, it was a cover song, so axl didnt really write it then. I remember a freind complaining about this song but saying he didnt write it.
Guest godthedog Report post Posted November 22, 2002 i think the honor would have to go to ice t's 'cop killler'. that song generated so much damn publicity. more than any eminem song did.
Guest Harry Hood Report post Posted November 22, 2002 If anyone's listened to In The Flesh by Pink Floyd, it's kinda questionable in a "did they just say that" kinda way.
Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted November 22, 2002 Cop Killer had Charleston Heston quoting the lyrics....that was so awesome. I think any of the original gangsta rap stuff was pretty bad because it was a pretty raw message at the time, I think the FBI or the LA Cops sent NWA a memo. Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted November 22, 2002 "Cop Killa" by Ice T and "Fuck Tha Police" by NWA would probably rank as the top 2 for me.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted November 22, 2002 Exactly. In terms of RAW constroversy, Fuck tha Police and Cop Killa were the greatest lyrical constroversy...don't forget Elvis with Hound Dog in the early 50's.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 22, 2002 Hound dog wasn't even his song. I believe it was written by Big Mama Thorton, although I could be wrong. I'm not too sure on the origins of a lot of older blues stuff. I know she did the song at least...Anyway, my votes go to Cop Killer, and any rap songs that got the people that wrote them arrested. Although another good pick would be Louie, Louie. Since people had no idea what the fuck he was saying, it got misconstued into everything from a song brainwashing kids into embracing communism to a song glorifying premarital sex, to a satanic anthem. The US government actually spent a LOT of money trying to figure out the lyrics.
Guest Espalda Report post Posted November 22, 2002 Technically speaking, "Cop Killer" is by Body Count, not Ice-T. And unlike "Fuck Tha Police," the infamous track wasn't even a rap song. It has been argued that by presenting so-called "gangsta" lyrics within the musical context of guitar-driven metal, "Cop Killer," encouraged white listeners to identify with the rage that many African-Americans felt toward the police. In 1992, politicians took that as a real threat to national security. In addition, the 2 Live Crew case in Florida, Judas Priest's "Stained Glass," Ozzy Osbourne's "Suicide Solution," Olivia Newton John's "Physical," Link Wray's "Rumble," Billie Holiday's "Love For Sale," etc., all created controversy for one reason or another over the years. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 22, 2002 Pat Benatar - Hell Is For Children: There was a rather large controversy about this song when it was released. It's rather obvious that those who complained never even bothered to listen to the song. They were saying stuff like it was about sacrificing children to Satan. All they had to do was actually listen to the song to see that it's obviously about child abuse. idiots
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted November 22, 2002 Stormtroopers of Death. Good thing they're not that well known, because if they were, they'd get so much bad press. Take a sample of these lyrics: Speak English Or Die You come into this country You can't get real jobs Boats and boats and boats of you Go home you fuckin' slobs Selling hot dogs on the corner Selling papers in the street Pushing, pulling, digging, sweating Where you come from must be beat You always make us wait You're the ones we hate You can't communicate Speak English Or Die You don't know what I want You don't know what I need Why must I repeat myself Can't you fuckin' read? Nice fuckin' accents Why can't you speak like me What's that dot on you head, Do you use it to see?? Fuck The Middle East Fuck the middle east There's too many problems They just get in the way We sure could live without them They hijack our planes They raise our oil prices We'll kill them all and have a ball And end their fuckin' crisis BEIRUT, LEBANON - Won't exist once we're done LIBYA, IRAN - We'll flush the bastards down the can SYRIANS and SHIITES - Crush their faces with our might Then Israel and Egypt can live in peace without these dicks Another band I should mention is Anal Cunt. Take a look at any of their lyrics. It'd make a vice cop blush. [max payne quote-o-rama]
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 22, 2002 Another band I should mention is Anal Cunt. Take a look at any of their lyrics. Or hell just look at the song titles. The titles of their songs are most of their lyrics.

Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted November 22, 2002 ...Billie Holiday's "Love For Sale," etc., all created controversy for one reason or another over the years. Don't forget Holiday's "Strange Fruit", which was controversial because its lyrics were about lynch mobs.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted November 23, 2002 Slayer's "Angel Of Death" is controversial, because some people seem to take it as a White Power, pro-Nazi song. Of course, these people don't realize that Slayer's bassist and vocalist isn't white...
Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted November 23, 2002 On SOD (Who I actually posted about in the Song Titles thread before I read this one - I finally picked up a CD copy of Speak English or Die) - Their lyrics, to be best of my knowledge, are mostly not to be taken seriously. I mean, you have songs like that, and then you have songs like Whatever Happened to Celtic Frost? and such things as that, which aren't very serious. A lot of their stuff is just kinda silly. I'd also like to toss Maiden's Number of the Beast into the pile of controversial songs. Jeez, the guy writes a song about one bad dream, and suddenly they're all satanists.
