I work at Little Casear's pizza. I don't like my boss. Well, actually he's district manager. But he's a prick who wants me to shave my sideburns even though I keep them trimmed and they're pretty closely cropped. Did I mention I work at Little Caesar's? Who gives a rat's ass if I'm shaved or not? It's not like I got a rat infested santa claus beard or anything. If he focused more on running the store instead of dumb shit like shaving maybe we wouldn't have to cut hours. Also, he says our labor's high, but if we work less people and it's real busy it's hard for four people to do all the stuff in the store that needs to be done. Maybe if we raised prices (we got the cheapest pizzas in town at $5.00) we wouldn't have to worry about high labor hours. I wish I'd win the lottery.

If you work in the kitchen area, then yes you should shave the sideburns off.

 

Your Hair (which you shed tons of a day..) + Pizza = bad. Your hair could contaminate the pizza (or other stuff). I don't really think that you have any other option..

 

Working in any food related operation requires shaving daily (something that my skin doesn't like..) because of this.

 

If you are a delivery person or a cashier or something then its probably just to keep up a professional look, and you could probably argue it and get out of it.

I worked for Disney World and they have a whole book on how you can and can't groom yourself. I think since you're not being forced to work there, they can pretty much tell you whatever they want you to do.

Every place has rules and regulations about how to dress and keep yourself. Sometimes it has to do with safety and hygiene, other times it has to do with image. An Italian restaurant can legally hire only Italians or Italian-looking people because they want to create a certain "atmosphere." It's not discrimination which I found interesting. The first thing I thought of though was Hooters. Think about what would happen if you could just look the way you wanted there? Maybe I just went way off topic here, but that's what came to mind.

 

I don't know...do what he asks, give your two weeks, and find a different job I guess...it's just hair. It'll grow back.

If I was asked to shave my sideburns, which are slightly past my ear and usually the hair is relatively short, I would quit. You may not want to listen to me though since I rarely comply with any rules or regulations.

I'll just tell him my girlfriend likes them so much she'll break up with me if I shave them off. Besides, I really don't want to quit cuz I make 7 an hour which is pretty good for a pizza place, and I deliver too so I make tips. See my actual boss doesn't care, but my district manager does and if he drops by he doesn't even know what the fuck to do when the store gets busy. So fuck 'im.

He visited my store yesterday and kept my manager tied up in the back for 3 HOURS talking to her, all the while I waited for her to come back up and jump on till so I could go on my break. My shift was 10 am to 6:30 pm and I only finally got to take my break at 4 pm.....

I have a friend who works as a very famous pizza place here in Canada and he is allowed to have a Jericho-style beard there and no one says shit. I don't think they should be able to fire you, but sideburns aren't exactly worth losing your job over.

What I find funny about District Managers is that they only visit a store every now and then, and they act like they now the every-day ins and outs of YOUR particular store. They also tell you to do the DUMBEST sh*t in regards to cleaning and food preparation.

 

When I worked at BK, we were getting CRUSHED one night and our dipsh*t DM was there. I was working speciality (fries, chicken, fish) and dumped a batch of onion rings in. He told me to "roate" them.

 

THERE WAS ONLY 1 OR 2 ONION RINGS IN THE COMPARTMENT BEFORE I DUMPED THE NEW BATCH IN.

 

I said "f" you, he didn't hear it, I labored on...

I worked at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA over the summer. They had a rule that sideburns couldn't be past the middle of your ear or they'd send you to the costume shop where they'd take a razor and shave them to what they consider acceptable. I think this is unfair considering I just worked a cash register in a souvenir shop. But that's a small price to pay considering I was making money.

About district managers, though, my retail experience taught me they're rarely knowledgeable or competent. Usually, they're just MBAs who got the job because of their degree, not because they have any acumen for the business or experience in the stores. I rarely got along with DMs when I was in retail, but they could rarely argue with my results, so it all kind of worked out.

Ditto. It always amazed me as a high school grunt worker how the DMs managed to get where they were but my more local managers, who were better workers on so many more levels, were always stuck where they were on the ladder of success...
