heh, whenever i watch tv, i have a tape set up to tape any match that intrigues me in the slightest, or should be good (or COULD be good).. i've been doing this since late june, so here's some of the *matches* that i'd put on a best of 2001 tv comp.. (er, from the last half of the year). ones with a * beside them denote that they could easily be removed and not missed at all.

 

05/30/02 - kurt angle vs edge (sd - cage match)

07/18/02 - kurt angle vs the rock (sd - the rock's return)*

07/25/02 - rey mysterio vs chavo guerrero (sd - rey's debut)

so yeah, there's most of the ones that i would put, just because i thought they were all really good matches and i would enjoy seeing them on a comp tape myself. there are probably some more (eddie vs rvd ladder match, which i didn't like) and a lot from the beginning of the year that i've missed, but those are the ones that i would recommend based on what i have on my comp tapes.

..3.0.7.'s list is pretty good but I would lose all the Angle v. Edge singles matchs on there, I think they're all pretty lame. And I would add the six man mentioned earlier, I thought it was a hoot. And I'd probably add the Jericho/Edge cage match. I guess I wouldn't have nearly so many I would call worth putting on a tape, but I guess they might be alright if you're looking to fill the thing.

kudos for including these, but i thought the tag match took place before the singles match, cause rock tapped out to the crossface in the tag match & they teased the same spot in the singles match.

 

and austin DID fight angle post-royal rumble on raw in a match to see who got the title shot at no way out, and it was awesome. it was the one where angle was taunting austin with a chair, trying to get himself disqualified.

they fought in two tag matches, and the original WAS before benoit vs rock.. apparently, i skipped the original in my match listings, though it was the superior match.

 

the first tag match between the two was:

 

08/01/02 - eddie guerrero & chris benoit vs the rock & edge (sd)

 

whereas the rematch happened on 08/22/02.

 

so yeah, i'd include the first match, not the second (more puncky-kicky).

 

oh, and to TheyCallMeMark, while i didn't like either angle vs edge ppv match TOO much, the tv match totally blew them away, i thought, even though the ending wasn't too good.

If I remember correctly, I'm pretty sure that there was a great RVD vs. Undertaker match on RAW in the earlier part of the year. Not the match where RVD "won" the World Title only to have Undertaker win it back in a minute after the match was restarted, but the match they had before that.

 

I also really enjoyed an 8-man (I believe) tag team match featuring the Unamericans that happened on RAW and was before the Summerslam PPV...think it ended with Test pinning Undertaker after a Big Boot when Undertaker had someone up for the Last Ride.

it was a very energetic 8-man tag, and the crowd made it so much better, popping like mad for every face movement, chanting more loudly for taker than i've heard in a long time. the six man was another okay match, but i didn't really dig it as much as a lot of the other matches mentioned.

 

i also really hated rock vs eddie, i was bored out of my skull. but that's me.

I wasn't real impressed with Angle/Edge in the cage, personally. There was too much Angle setting up for big spots and Edge letting himself be carried and not enough... match. Out of curiosity what did you think of the Edge/Jericho match in comparison (I thought what it lacked in big spots it made up for in workrate)?

That's why I liked Edge/Eddy so much. eddy didn't really set up a specific match, he rather just let everything flow. He worked over everything so Edge could just sell exhaustion and pain all over rather than making him sell a segment of the body. He started out in a very WWE environment and let in a degenerate into a great brawl.
