Guest Nathan J Report post Posted November 23, 2002 Like it says what games console do you think is the best currently, while with plenty of life still in it before being superseeded by another console from the same company. This makes the answer the best buy currently. thank you.
Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted November 23, 2002 PS2 by a motherfucking landslide.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted November 23, 2002 PS2 has the biggest library by a landslide. Gamecube has some exclusives that make it a must for me. I mean...The best games I've played this year are Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime and GTA Vice City. 2 of those are GC games. I was looking at my GC games the other day. They don't release a lot in volume... but I mean...Jesus... Metroid Prime, Mario, 2 SuperMonkey Balls, 2 Resident Evils, Eternal Darkness, Animal Crossing, Star Fox Adventures and the upcoming Zelda. There's some good exclusives on this system.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted November 23, 2002 Yea, at first I thought PS2 had all the franchises I would need, but now I hear so much buzz about Metroid Prime (big fan of Super Metroid) and Mario Sunshine, and the Resident Evils, and the upcoming Zeldas, I'm considering getting the GC as a second system. Guest edotherocket Report post Posted November 23, 2002 From the perspective of someone living in Australia who owns all consoles... For the X-box I have bought only Halo this year. Halo is good but frankly, owning a system for one game is pretty shitty. I think I'll pick up Splinter Cell but even then, it seems to be pushed as another Metal Gear Solid so while it should be good, it won't be mindblowing or anything. Next game I'm looking forward to, is Halo 2 which will probably be out December 2003 in Australia. Oh, and Fable whenever that comes out. Not really pleased with Xbox right now. Pretty satisfied with Gamecube. I got Monkeyball, Mario Sunshine and Resident Evil. Mildly disappointed with Mario but Monkeyball has easily been the most played game in my house and I can't wait for the sequel. However, NO METROID UNTIL JANUARY 2003. Complete BULLSHIT. Playstation 2 has been pretty decent. I'm enjoying Smackdown Shut Your Mouth right now though earlier in the year I wasn't using my PS2 for much other than watching DVDs. GTA:Vice City is going to be censored in Australia and isn't even out yet but I'm getting around it by buying a bootleg copy in South East Asia. Occasionally, I still play Mr Driller on Dreamcast trying to finish that damned 5000ft mode without success. All in all, you can't really lose with either PS2 or Gamecube. Guest Nathan J Report post Posted November 23, 2002 I was actually thinking about getting an X-Box. Is the PS2 still going to be around for a while you think?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted November 23, 2002 If your asking if the PS3 will replace it soon the answer is no. There's a few years left before that happens, and last I heard it looked like XBox 2 was going to beat it to shelves anyway. But not until at least 2005. Guest Nathan J Report post Posted November 23, 2002 yeah thats what i was asking BPS. Are the X-Box graphics really that better then PS2, to make it worthy to buy XBOX merely on its graphics?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted November 23, 2002 XBOX is the best machine there is. The graphics are always sharper than the PS2s are. If they put out some better exclusives I'd get one.
Guest Flyboy Report post Posted November 23, 2002 yeah thats what i was asking BPS. Are the X-Box graphics really that better then PS2, to make it worthy to buy XBOX merely on its graphics? X-Box graphics are better than both Gamecube (sometimes) and PS2... but never buy a system merely for graphics.

Guest Renegade Report post Posted November 23, 2002 PS2 by a motherfucking landslide. Amen. Devil May Cry, GTA, Suikoden, Rachett and Clank, Contra, Shinobi, Onimusha, Kingdom Hearts, and a great list of fighting games.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted November 23, 2002 Right now, it's 1) PS2 2) Gamecube 3) X-Box And it doesn't look good for X-Box either, since they're already going the same route Sega did for DC and Saturn (including games with the system).
Guest TheArchiteck Report post Posted November 23, 2002 Omg..people actually like Gamecube better than Xbox? Guess it's just me that none of the GC games appeal to me. Maybe except the Animal one. That Metroid Prime game looks *yawn* to me. The one on GBA looks a lot more entertaining.
Guest HoffmanHHH Report post Posted November 23, 2002 Well, it takes all kinds... I posted these over at WDI, but I figure they might be relevant here as well. These are the sales figures at my local Toys R Us for the big three consoles, as well as the Game Boy Advance, for I believe the past six months: PS2: 81 GCN: 42 XBox: 17...point and laugh GBA: 78 I was told that these are pretty representative of national trends...so, I wouldn't count on XBox being alive for too much longer. Actually, they're in about as much trouble as GameCube (minimal but significant), as Microsoft can simply afford to fuck up more than the other companies can. I wouldn't count on an XBox 2, either. Also, I'm sure some people have heard about it, but the Cube is making a GBA adapter -- sort of like Super Game Boy was, but much more advanced...so to speak. http://cube.ign.com/articles/377/377794p1.html
Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted November 23, 2002 What I don't get it when people are discussing what console to get, price hardly ever comes up. Maybe its me and my cheapness, but I bought a GameCube because I love Nintendo, but I love saving money, too. Now, I also agree that the PS2 is THE must-have system, especially since it has games like GTA (if you're into that sorta thing), and its only $200 now. If I could think of one thing i didn't like about the PS2, it'd be load times. I'm pretty sure the X-Box is slower (from what little I've played). Then, like BPS said, GameCube for the exclusives it has to offer. Plus, those quick load times make me feel all warm inside. Lastly, I wouldn't touch an X-Box with a ten-meter cattle prod, but that's just me.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted November 23, 2002 I just bought an XBOX. Its convenient since I don't hafto buy any memory cards and they are heavily pushing online play with XBOX Live and it has the best DVD capabilities of a gaming console. But then, the Gamecube is the cheapest console right now and has some of the best games that are exclusive to it...
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted November 23, 2002 PS2 and it's not even close. SOOOOO many great games out right now. X Box won't catch up without another price cut...and they're already losing over $100 on every system they sell. To break even every X Box owner will have to own about 10 games...the average is only 5. X Box has the most potential...but it's taking hard now. I won't own a Game Cube till it drops to $100...just doesn't look like the system for me.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Report post Posted November 23, 2002 If you have to, get the Xbox to play Splinter Cell. Don't compare it with MGS, because it's not the same, only in concept. SC's gameplay is what sets it above Solid. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay has a lot of depth, and the loading times are minimal.
Guest EQ Report post Posted November 23, 2002 Right now, it's 1) PS2 2) Gamecube 3) X-Box I'd have to agree with this post. I own all three systems and I rate them the same.
Guest Smell the ratings!!! Report post Posted November 23, 2002 I'm a ~DC~ owner, which means my viewpoint is totally neutral. First off, it seems to me that Xbox easily blows away the other systems in graphics, and supposedly there isn't a game out that comes anywhere near maxing out Xbox's graphics. However, the only good Xbox game is Halo, the next one will be Halo 2. This system is fucked. Gamecube is cheaper, first off, and does have some games that you can't get on other systems. Like bps said, Monkeyball, Smash brothers, Metroid, Darkness, and a bunch of other cool shit, including god of games DOA, is only on Cube. Still, PS2 has such a HUGE selection of games that it's the best choice for everyone, regardless of what games you like to play. And when it gets online, there will be a ton of other users to play. Basically, it's the best choice for 99% of people.

Guest TUS_02 Report post Posted November 23, 2002 Oh, for the record... I was very disappointed with Starfox Adventures on the cube I watched my roommate play most of the game... and it didn't seem all that impressive. Hell, he looked bored playing it. It's the same with Mario Sunshine... and he hasn't touched that game in like 5 weeks. I can't see the appeal with either of those games. Hell, Super Monkey Ball (1 or 2, take your pick) is by far the worst game I have ever played. Ever. But I won't hold that against Gamecube. Said room mate owns all three systems and Gamecube probably gets the least amount of play. But to be fair, most of the games he buys are ports that he just prefers getting for the X-box. That's probably the big reason why I like it more then the other two.
Guest EQ Report post Posted November 23, 2002 I liked Mario Sunshine, but it was way too easy. Once I beat it, I didn't really play it either. Starfox was just very boring to play. I took it back and used that money to get Metroid.

Actually, they're in about as much trouble as GameCube (minimal but significant), as Microsoft can simply afford to fuck up more than the other companies can. I wouldn't count on an XBox 2, either. Actually, in both the US and Europe Xbox is out selling Gamecube. The only area of the world that Gamecube is in second place is Japan, which would be the only country where those figures are even close to being representitive of national trends. Plus, Xbox 2 is a lock for 2004/2005. If you're trying to persuade someone to not get an Xbox then use the fact that there is a lack of top of the line exclusives rather than posting misleading figures from one store. As for the original question, I'd get a PS2 because it is the total package. The library that is already out is very solid, plus it's going to alive just as long as the other 2 consoles. PS2 also has a good number of online games, some of which are free, but some of which will have their own monthly charge for the servers. Go with a Gamecube if you want the Nintendo franchises and Resident Evil, but it doesn't put out as many games as the other 2, and doesn't get my favorites from Sega Sports any more. Also the Gamecube has ONE online game and pretty much no plans for future online games. Go with an Xbox if you want the best in online gaming(if you have broadband, that is) and the best looking, smoothest games. Plus you get a console(with the DVD kit) plus Sega GT and Jet Set Radio Future, both of which are excellent. Disadvantages for the Xbox are that it doesn't have as many big time exclusives, although they have been getting better recently, and that they aren't getting much big Japanese support. Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted November 24, 2002 I can't see why anyone would by a GC now, since after this christmas they have??? exactly... Snicker snicker...like BPS said, Zelda is out, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is coming according to GameFAQs, two Batman games (but I'm a mark for Bats), and about every other game coming out on X-Box and PS2. Don't give me that "after Christmas" crap. Super Monkey Ball (1 or 2, take your pick) is by far the worst game I have ever played. Well, I can't hold one person's personal opinion against him. Ever. Oh, you suck so bad.
