No George Lucas? um..yeah.. from the nominations thread, when jingus wanted george lucas in the tournament, along with werner herzog, elia kazan & ingmar bergman (among others): george lucas should NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER be in ANY kind of tournament that is even vaguely related to "best director." I can direct actors and create better characters than lucas can. there's no way in hell he deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as werner herzog, elia kazan and ingmar fucking bergman. the fact that 'star wars' is a well-loved movie does not mean lucas should be put in a tournament for the best directors ever. the only thing well-directed about 'star wars' was the final mission to blow up the death star. and there was NOTHING well-directed about 'the phantom menace'. like plato says: what the masses think does not matter. what only matters is the thoughts of someone who knows what he's talking about. Hence the large number of robberies at conventional awards shows. Also, what the masses think does matter to a degree - after all, the budget for your next film has to come from somewhere...
