Is it just Seattle?

Seriously. We've got like nothing in Seattle that's new. We've still got Mudhoney and the newly formed Eye's Adrift (with Krist from Nirvana... and I guess we have Rick Hiller, too) but other than those two bands the scene is just bad. There is nothing in Tacoma and even in Seattle the two best bands are mediocre at best. Hot Hot Heat sounds a little too much like a punk Jane's Addiction, while the Carthaters'(sp) sound like a less envigorated and unoriginal version of Mudhoney. I guess Modest Mouse is still around, too, now that I think about it. But other than that, our music scene blows.

 

Is there anything good going on ANYWHERE? I mean really, because I'm like going there. This place sucks.

The midwest scene blows. There's a few patches of Hardcore here and there, and there's Lividity and Legion. That's about it aside from a once a year festival or two that's always at least a 6 hour drive away, if not more.

Here in Delaware we have a good music scene going, hell we even have a fued between the "metal guys" and the "hardcore guys" and before you ask I'm on the metal side.

The music scene in Arizona isn't too bad.....we've had some pretty good local bands (Jimmy Eat World, Authority Zero) before they went national, and the underground scene is fairly decent. Hell, even Korn played here before they got huge.......but that's not really complimenting Arizona that much. So nevermind.

Actually, I think the whole Punk vs. Metal debate can be summed up the best with the Shampoo is better, NO, Conditioner is better argument from Billy Madison. That's about as important as it is. I've no doubt that its led to fisticuffs somewhere, but that's just because people are stupid.

 

Around here, it goes like this when concerning metal/hardcore shows.

 

Every show has between 3-5 bands playing, and about 50 people in the crowd throughout the night. This includes band members, and their girlfriends, so call it 25 people paid.

 

The 3-5 bands includes one hardcore band, one death band, and a bunch of guys just fucking around that think they're doing something funny or brilliant. There may be other bands there as well, but those three are usually a given. The hardcore guys just keep to themselves for the most part, usually showing up really early with the hardcore band, possibly paying to get in. The death band's friends always show up late as well as drunk, mosh around for a while, and leave immediately after the death band is done, and go somewhere to finish the keg. The stupid band always goes on first, since no one's there. Their purpose is solely to drag their girlfriends to a show, and to make sure the PA is hooked up properly. Everyone leaves with a feeling of either, "Eh, they were ok." or "Eh, that sucked."

 

Occasionally, there will be a band or two from out of town that's actually good, and they'll bring half a dozen people or so with them.

 

That's pretty much the local metal scene in a nutshell.

Well this is how ours got started

 

The Senior Class put on a metal and the hardcore bands were on the bill so during the opening bands performance a fight broke out between two bands and they left and came back an hour later. One hardcore band had their friends thrown out and got pissed and broke six mics that they refused to pay for. During another bands set every hardcore band got on stage and screaming then some guy ran around naked then a riot started and then the police were called. Now the hardcore bands beat up women at their shows to either draw a crowd, make up for their suckiness, or to show up one metal show were some chick got fucked up and at the halloween show the hardcore bands tried to set the place where the metal bands were playing on fire. Now that's a fucking fued.
