Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted November 24, 2002 I recently had an epiphany. I was thinking about "Power Rangers" and how much I originally liked it and then had a fierce backlash against it, and then I realized... Power Rangers was all right. Sure, it had stupid dialogue, cheesy giant monster suits, and utter nonsense, but so do so many other Japanese kitsch favorites. I then came to the realization that "Power Rangers" really isn't all that bad after all. I'll even go so far as to say it owns, and in about ten-twenty years there will be some big collector's Power Rangers nostalgia kick, like there always is for such crazy pop icons. So, yea... what was your favorite Power Ranger/villain/moment, etc? Are there any Power Rangers DVDs (in any region) other than the movies and this future release? Can anyone explain where the hell all these spin-offs come from (I lose track after "Power Rangers in Space", but apparently they're still going on to this day) and if they come even close to the original in pieced together, overdubbed, Japanese ownage? Guest treble charged Report post Posted November 24, 2002 Favourite moment has to be when Tommy came back as the White Ranger. The whole show went downhill for me when half of the original cast left, and the Zords and everything changed.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted November 24, 2002 True that about the original cast leaving, but even though his tiger costume was a lot cooler, I liked Tommy better as the Green Ranger; the Zord was cooler and the whole "evil ranger turned good" storyline was probably the deepest the show has ever steeped Plus the dagger/flute was just freakin' cool. Guest Karnage Report post Posted November 24, 2002 I remember when the Putties got upgraded to Super Putties. It was useless since all the Rangers had to do was punch the circle thingy on their chest.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted November 24, 2002 yeah, I knew after those three other ppl were introduced that everything would go to shit. Maybe not exactly in those words, but something wasn't right... And the two bully characters trying to figure out who they were. I know they were supposed to be stupid, but thinking that the juice bar guy was the power rangers when there are five other ppl who they interact with constantly who know karate and wear the same colours that the power rangers do? That's...pretty funny.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted November 24, 2002 And the Rangers never truly defeat a bad guy until Rita throws that stick to make them gigantic and the Rangers call up Megazord. It was kinda cool when Tommy's Dragonzord and the Megazord bonded together to make an Ultra Megazord though.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted November 24, 2002 The Green Ranger saga is pretty much one of my favorite story arcs on any TV show. Yeah, Power Rangers is goofy and all, but dammit, the evil Ranger bit kicked 10,000 kinds of ass. On all the PR spin-offs, Time Force(last season) is pretty much the best of them all. Not only does the storyline go deeper than pretty much every spin-off, but the Rangers get massarced and the 4 from the future leave the leader in the present to fight on his own. Once the shows kicks it into overdrive for the final 8-10 episodes, it gets pretty awesome. But then again... I watch and love Digimon, X-Men: Evolution, and Yu-Gi-Oh!, so my opinion might not be the best to trust.... lol.
Guest papacita Report post Posted November 24, 2002 I didn't like Power Rangers until the Green Ranger came in. My favorite moment had to be when Evil Green Ranger jumped into the Megazord and kicked all their asses.
Guest DerangedHermit Report post Posted November 24, 2002 They have a whole bunch of funny Power Ranger related reviews at X-Entertainment.com. I used to be a huge fan (I had the Tommy "karate" tape (yecch), the Power Rangers game for Sega CD (double yecch) and the tape of the movie (triple yecch)). Lord Zedd was cool, as was the evil Green Ranger. I liked the MMPR ep. where the Zord got its arms chopped off, the center was destroyed and the PRs lost their powers. But one ?, why in Angel Grove, is there always some sort of festivities? Somewhat related, in the Spider-Man movie, when Spidey is chased by the Green Goblin at the Oscorp Unity Day thingee, that whole scene gives off a MMPR vibe (the running from the glider's shots, the rescuing of that kid, the ball bombs, Spidey in that scene looks like Red Ranger, Green Goblin looks like a MMPR villain in the movie). Guest razazteca Report post Posted November 24, 2002 I am almost sure that the Power Rangers is an American bastardization of the Japanese shows just like Robotech is different from Macross.....its 2 diff animals here. I think after the 1st season it became purely an american show without any dubbing at all. I remember years before Power Rangers become a popular kiddie show on Fox a form of it was on Nickalodeon in its pure form dubbed with MST3K type commentary by some company called 4 channel or 4 score or something like it. Guest HollywoodSpikeJenkins Report post Posted November 24, 2002 I loved the Green, White, and Pink Ranger (Pink in a different way though ) I loved when the Green Ranger took off his sheild and put it on somebody else, because it always looked badass. Espically on the Black Ranger. And the flute owned all.

Guest B-X Report post Posted November 24, 2002 I'll admit it. The original Power Rangers owned all of your asses. And the asses of all of your future children. Reading this thread brought back so many memories. But it also brings back up old anger. Like, WHY THE FUCK DO THEY CONTINUE TO RAPE THE SHOWS CORPSE!?!? How many spin-offs have there been? I can remember AT LEAST 6 different variations of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", and I just KNOW that eventually, we will see a "Ultra-Mega Three-legged Super Duper Time Force from beyond the moon of Planet X Power Rangers". Makes me sick. I'm 18 years old, and if they ever decide to reshow the original Power Rangers episodes, I don't fucking care, I AM THERE. The Green Ranger did own all heaven and hell also. cawthon777 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2002 I loathed the Power Rangers simply because it was a lame live-action bastardization of Voltron that wasn't near as entertaining.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted November 24, 2002 All I remember from Power Rangers was that Amy Jo Johnson was (and still is) hot, Bulk and Skull ruled everyone, and the guy who played Zack was on the "Fear, Itself" episode of Buffy. We actually used to watch it (Power Rangers) in homeroom in 6th grade. That was pretty much my only good memory from JR High. Well, that and the fact that my 8th grade science teacher loved wrestling so we got to watch WM 12 and the Royal Rumble instead of doing class stuff.
Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted November 24, 2002 how was that a shield? It was fxcking cloth. Oh, well, maybe it was like Dibiase's black glove of death The American producers had their own set of MMPR costumes to use when they filmed action scenes and scenes when they were in Zordon and Alpha's lair. The American version of the Green Ranger's shield was made out of cloth and looked more like a really gay vest, but the shield shown in the original Japanese fight scenes was made out of a hard plastic and looked much better. One of the biggest mark-outs was when Jason returned for a brief stint as the Gold Ranger in Power Rangers Zeo (I think it was Zeo).
Guest kane3212321 Report post Posted November 24, 2002 Green With Evil was my favourite arc. Watching Goldar, Tommy and someone else I can't remember defeat the Power Rangers was awesome. Even when I was a kid I always backed the bad guys in these series' like Shredder and Skeletor due to their coolness factor.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted November 24, 2002 I loved this show. I would have to agree with the general census that the green ranger rocked. I always loved that evil green ranger storyline. I almost felt bad when he turned good. He was just such a good villain. I even liked him as the white ranger. I HATED the red ranger though. I was so glad when he left. I laughed my ass off when he was guest starring at a car show here, considering I believe he left to be a big star or something. I think the show went downhill for me when the pink ranger was replaced. I just did not watch much longer after the Australian pink ranger debuted. I just stopped watching, and only watched it like one or two more times when they were replacing the original blue ranger. I actually do watch the newest edition of it though. I believe it is called "Wild Force" or something. It is pretty bad. It is like a parody of the show. They go off, get an enemy, fight it, defeat it, the evil character turns it big, they call out the zords, beat it, lather, rinse, repeat. I do not even know who the rangers are. They do not show them without their masks much, and when they do it is like, "Who are these people and why should I care?" Then, they really pissed me off by introducing a giraffe zord. A friggin' giraffe?!? How is that intimidating? It's a giraffe. On the plus side, the female villain is rather hot, so that is why I watch it at 7:30 AM on Sundays. I just cannot believe how the show has gone downhill. I remember at the peak of my interest I woke up early specifically to watch the Power Rangers go to some planet and fight stuff in some special episode on a Saturday morning. And now I look at it on at 7:30 in the morning on a Sunday, and I feel quite sad. How the mighty have fallen. Maybe I will go off and buy the movie. I am feeling all nostalgic now. Guest Respect The 'Taker Report post Posted November 24, 2002 Lol, oh that title is so beyond cool... My favourite Ranger originally was Jason the Red Ranger, however the pure evilness of the Green Ranger made me like him even more. Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted November 24, 2002 I echo everything said here, and the White Ranger being Tommy was a markout moment rivaling some of wrestling's greatest. It pissed me off that Billy was relegated to being the dweeb who helped Alpha out. Him as the Gold Ranger was the last time I remember really caring to watch. Lord Zedd was the coolest looking character ever maybe. If he got rid of the Z at the top of his head fin, he'd be the coolest ever bottom line. And that big-ass Chinese Dragon Zord that the heels had was FUCKING AWESOME. Oh, and that female heel they had to replace Rita was fine. And the Green Ranger's zord RULED. It was a pity they never showed the individual zords doing anything of real worth. Anyone got a link to the pictures of the Pink Ranger in whatever magazine she was in? I heard she's gotten hotter than ever. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2002 But then again... I watch and love Digimon, X-Men: Evolution, and Yu-Gi-Oh!, so my opinion might not be the best to trust.... lol. Hey man acknowledge your cartoon fandom. I grew up watching cartoons back in the day of the original G.I. Joe (Snake Eyes rocked everyone else) and the original Transformers (first 1/2 of season 2 comes out on DVD in a week and a half, I'm there). So, I'm an old fart and I still watch X-Men and Yu-Gi-Oh!. Maximillian Pegasus had to have been one of the most sarcastic and funniest bad guys in recent cartoon history. Don't quite get where they're going right now, but I have faith. Oh yeah, and don't get me started on Tea and Mai Valentine. Anyway, before I become too much of a geek (too late, I know) I'll just say that I kinda lost track of MMPR around the start of the whole Evil Ranger thing, when he was in the middle of owning all the other rangers. Was prety cool, since you can never have enough kung fu, beating up of the "good guys", and explosions in children's programming. And yes, Amy Jo had the whole cheerleader-next-door look going for her. Edit:Good lord Amy Jo is 32 frickin' years old! And still looks like 20 or so! Hey Kotzen if you just want pics of her try her site. I found it tonight while trying to find pics of her (always looking out for you man). Nothing major, but try Google or Yahoo I'm sure they've got about a million different sites for her.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted November 24, 2002 But it also brings back up old anger. It's actually more like raping the sentai shows that it's based on, but's neither here nor there. If you check out Power Rangers Central they've got a huge database of the shows and characters and stuff. The seasons: 01: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (the original) 02: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (the Thunderzords and the 3 new rangers) 03: Mighty Morphin Power/Alien Rangers (ninja powers) 04: Power Rangers Zeo (where they FINALLY change costumes) 05: Power Rangers Turbo (car theme) 06: Power Rangers in Space (duh) 07: Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (space colony) 08: Power Rangres Lightspeed (train theme) 09: Power Rangers Time Force (duh part 2) 10: Power Rangers Wild Force (animal spirits and 5,000,000 different versions of the megazord) The new one in February is called "Ninja Storm" and apparently has 3 good Rangers and 2 bad Rangers who fight EACH OTHER before the inevitable teaming up sometime later in the season. I suspect that as long as Japan keeps making the Sentai, and Saban continues to try making this on the cheap, we'll continue seeing Power Rangers. seasons 1-6 were actually 1 continuous show, although some of the cast and zord transistions had some hella-weak explanations. The others just used different casts each time. They recently had a "Forever Red" episode which had "all" TEN (zoiks!) red rangers (they had the Quantum Ranger from Time Force and no Rocky - the 2nd power ranger. Who'd he piss off?) from the past seasons. Ignoring the plotholes where some of these guys shouldn't have their powers, this was pretty cool. It was also funny to see that the red Space Ranger had gained a "few" pounds over the years. Sadly, this was the best episode of Wild Force. The only other good thing I can say about the show is that they at least mixed up the ethnicity of the cast (a Filipino, Latino, a guy who looks like he's got Carribbean blood). Favourite male ranger is a tossup between Tommy (1st Green/1st White/3rd Red Ranger) and Adam (2nd Black/2nd Green Ranger). Favourite female is Cassie (3rd Pink Ranger). Least favourite character was that kid Justin (3rd Blue Ranger) who I hated at about a Wesley Crusher level. Favourite villian is Divatox, since the woman who played her got to play it over the top (but not to a cheesy extent) and looked like she was having some serious fun doing it. Guest treble charged Report post Posted November 24, 2002 The sad thing about this is, I used to watch the show religiously (in the morning before school and in the afternoon after school was over), and I hardly remember any exact details, just little pieces here and there. Judging by starvenger's list, I stopped watching during the second season. I guess I just couldn' get into the new Rangers and Zords. Oh well. EDIT: A just downloaded a video of Kazaa, pretty much covering the Green Ranger's 'turn', and a bunch of memories came flooding back. I had completely forgotten about him getting all big and fighting the Megazord, and him making Jason dissappear at the school. Oh, and the video was set to Enter Sandman, for whatever reason. Guest Karnage Report post Posted November 24, 2002 Does anyone know the name of that hot asian chick ranger in one of the later spinoffs? And now that you mention it, Mattitude does sort of resemble Tommy.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted November 24, 2002 Does anyone know the name of that hot asian chick ranger in one of the later spinoffs? You're thinking of Patricia Ja Lee, who played Pink Ranger Cassie in Power Rangers Turbo and Power Rangers in Space. In case you're thinking of one of the other two: - Thuy Tran played Trini, the original Yellow Ranger. I believe that she died in a car crash last year. - Jessica Rey played White Ranger Alyssa in the current Power Rangers Wild Force Man, am I a repository for useless info or what?
