Guest MillenniumMan831 Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 I'm a pretty avid collector of Coliseum Videos and particularly enjoy watching stuff from MSG, Boston Garden, and the Spectrum. My question is why were there announce teams at ringside for these house shows? I understand that the MSG shows were broadcast on the MSG Network, but what about Boston Garden, Maple Leaf Garden, Spectrum, ect. Would these shows be broadcast on local affiliates? Were the announce teams just there for home video purposes or what? Thanks in advance.
Guest DawnBTVS Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 Probably for home video purposes.

Would these shows be broadcast on local affiliates? Were the announce teams just there for home video purposes or what? They were all televised, actually. The Toronto TV shows were dropped first (back in the mid 80s I believe), then the Spectrum, then Boston, and finally MSG (in 92). What's funny is that sometimes the CHV announce team was different from the announce team at ringside. During a Duggan / Slaughter flag match in March 91 at MSG, Heenan and Monsoon were ringside while on the CHV (2nd Annual Battle of the WWF Superstars) Mooney and Alfred Hayes redo it. It's hilarious because Mooney and Alfred try to play it off that Heenan and Monsoon are only there to do commentary for the Armed Forces Network before debating how much Heenan is getting paid to do the show (I lived in Germany for 6 years as a kid and all I watched was AFN; we never got random MSG wrestling shows).
cawthon777 Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 There were also regular shows held at the LA Sports Arena that were televised as well. These shows took place every 4-6 weeks from what I can tell and were usually televised a day or two afterwards.

LOL . . . that figures. I believe they did that for Jannetty vs. Tatanka on WrestleFest 1991 as well. Most of the house show matches did preserve the original commentary on CHV (Thank God). As a side note, I have a guilty pleasure for: - Rod or Ron Trungard - The guy sounded like Rush Limbaugh; which also kind of made him sound like a credible journalist. - Dick Graham - He did some Sprectrum shows in the 80s and got easily excited over the slightest things. Showed a lot of enthusiasm. He'd say things like: "Aww man alive! Woooooooo!!!!"
Guest JHawk Posted November 24, 2002 Report Posted November 24, 2002 Dick Graham was awesome, particularly when working with Gorilla. There were also some Capital Centre and Nassau Coliseum shows that were broadcast locally, as well as some Meadowlands shows if I'm not mistaken.
Guest dreamer420 Posted November 25, 2002 Report Posted November 25, 2002 Damn I miss the old days of wrestling.
Guest BAR Posted November 25, 2002 Report Posted November 25, 2002 Damn, I miss Marty Jannetty. What's he doing with himself now? Indies?
Guest kingkamala Posted November 25, 2002 Report Posted November 25, 2002 From what I hear Marty Jannetty is skipping indy shows occasionally working a few....too bad really a great talent that guy was.
Guest Mark4steamboat Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 I always felt that Marty was the star of the Midnight Rockers but i do feel that Shawn was the better of the 2 during the Rockers era. Marty was awesome at singles as well. His mini run in WCW in the late 90s wouldnt prove it but in the early 90s he was pretty damn good.
Guest dreamer420 Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 Marty was always be favorite Rocker and when he got tossed through the barber shop window I was devistated. I always hoped his big IC title win on RAW would help elevate his career but he self destructed himself and that sucks.
Guest BAR Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 I was just watching his Survivor Series 1995 match, amazing. Probably the best Survivor Series style match i've ever seen.
Guest bob_barron Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 Yea- Underdogs v. Bodydonnas was a pretty kickass match.
