Guest Brian Report post Posted November 25, 2002 I've been posting randomly to the other thread so I decided to collect my thoughts. This isn't a top five yet, I'll deliver that later on. "Bridge over Troubled water" Simon and Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water Their best song ever probably. Great opener on a great album, their best too. Definate top five candidate. "Sounds of Silence" Simon and Garfunkel Sounds of Silence Really good, probably will just miss. "Baba O'Reilly" The Who Who's Next Great song. Candidate. "Back in the USSR" The Beatles White Album Good opener, though there are better songs. "Come Together" The Beatles Come Together One of the Beatles strongest albums as a lot of their experimenting came together and a lot of singles all came together. Everyone really contributed, but to me it's somewhat overshadowed by the backside of the album. Still a candidate. "Drive" REM Automatic for the People Doesn't hold up as well with the rest. I like this album a lot though. Still really good. "Radio Song" REM Out of Time This song took a long time to grow on me, as did the album as a whole. I bought it mainly for "Losing My Religion", put it away, listened to it again and realized how good this was. Still, will fall short. "Radio Free Europe" REM Murmur I didn't go with Drive, so this gets the shaft. "Singing Winds, Crying Beasts" Santana Abraxas One of the greatest albums of all time deserves a mention, though this song is probably not even top five on this album. Unfortunate, really good instrumental, but even at that it's bested by"Samba Pa Ti". Peter Green and Santana made this album. "Where the Streets Have No Name" U2 Joshua Tree Great opener, great lead in. Definate candidate. "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" U2 War U2's best song, will definately be in contention. Better shot than any of their other work. "What's Going On" Marvin Gaye What's Going On Great protest song, great protest album, Marvin at his finest. This will most likely make top five. "Wouldn't It Be Nice" Beach Boys Pet Sounds Might make it. Amazing album. "Like a Rolling Stone" Bob Dylan Highway 61 Revisited One of my favorite and most influential songs ever. Definately up there. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Nirvana NeverMind Living in Seattle, something has soured me about this osng and some of Nirvana's work over the years, like Jimi's. Still could make it, but I just don't view it being up there with the rest. "London Calling" The Clash London Calling Very, very good chance of getting in. "David Watts" The Kinks Something Else by the Kinks Probably won't make it. Damn good though. Kinks rule, you need to hear more of these guys if you haven't. Every bit as good, if not better, than the Stones. "Party Line" The Kinks Face to Face Very good. Will fall short. "Victoria" The Kinks Arthur Great Kinks song. Candidate. "Mr. Tambourine Man" The Byrds Can't remember which album, probably self-titled. One of the great covers. Maybe a candidate. "Turn! Turn! Turn!" The Byrds Turn! Turn! Turn! Good, maybe even great, but won't make it. "Let the Good Times Roll" The Cars The Cars Better songs on this album IMO. Falls way short. "Blinded by the Light" Mannfred Mann The Roaring Silence Pretty much the only reason to have heard of these guys. Greatest cover ever, maybe "All Around the WatchTower" beats it. Worth hearing, probably won't make it. "Handle With Care" Traveling Wilburys Handle With Care Very, very good but will end up falling short. Wilburys were good for their short time period together but their individual work eclipses this. "Hanging on the Telephon" Blondie Parrallel Lines Very good chance of making the cut. Whatta song, whatta album. "Break on Through" The Doors Lost on which album, has a good chance. "Free Fallin'" Tom Petty Full Moon rising Another one with a good chance but it will be tough. Very good album. "Welcome to the Working Week" Elvis Costello and the Attractions My Aim is True Does a great job opening the album. Could be in there. "Accidents will happen" Elvis Costello Armed Forces Very good shot. "Psycho Killer" Talking Heads Stop Making Sense Very goos shot. My favorite Talking Heads song. "Moving Out" Billy Joel The Stranger Great album, good lead in. Definate Candidacy. I'll edit in some more stuff later.

Guest Brian Report post Posted November 26, 2002 It was a long post that would have gotten lost in there and I'm sure I have more to do. This just will have more order.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted November 26, 2002 I'm not sure that the Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer" should count as a true album opener. I don't know the track list for Stop Making Sense, but I don't think there's any new material on it, and "Psycho killer" is one of the last tracks on the album for which it was originally recorded, Talking Heads: 77. It doesn't seem quite right to me to call it an album opener, just because it happens to open the soundtrack to the documentary of the same name.
Guest Harry Hood Report post Posted November 26, 2002 Yeh the real opening song is Uh Oh Love comes to town
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted November 26, 2002 Break on Through was off of The Doors self-titled.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted November 26, 2002 I was thinking the same thing, LC. If it's the actual version of "Psycho Killer" that appears on Stop Making Sense that's his favorite, however, I think it could slide on a technicality.
