Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted November 26, 2002 DVD releases on my birthday. It must be karma! Black Christmas: Special Edition One of the most effective, underrated horror films ever made get's a well deserved SE, including a matted widescreen transfer, multiple commentaries and more. Ice Age Entertaining, funny CGI animated film arrives on DVD in a fully loaded SE. If you liked Monster's Inc., then you should enjoy this as well. Transformers: Season Two: Part One The first half of the second season of one of the best 80's cartoon shows ever finally get's a DVD release. The box set features a nice amount of extras, which is a welcome change for a TV release. Undisputed Entertaining prison boxing movie featuring Ving Rhames as a pro boxer imprisoned for rape facing off against a con played by Wesley Snipes. The special features are pretty thin. Zombie 4 Italian gorefest arrives on DVD with an anamorphic widescreen transfer, uncut. 'Till next week.

Guest Lethargic Report post Posted November 26, 2002 What is the deal with the matted movies? My friend and I have debated this forever. Well at least for a year or so since "matted" started showing up on the back of the boxes. He hates it. He thinks that matting is causing him to lose just as much as full screen does, just reversed to the top instead of the sides, because they're matting stuff out of the picture just to force a movie to be widescreen. I probably agree with him on some of those. I've seen movies that I KNOW were never meant to be widescreen get matted just so they can put widescreen as a feature on the box. My thinking is that shooting on 35mm (I think?) that the film actually takes up the whole screen anyway. But they have a viewer on the camera/monitor so they frame it like it was widescreen. So they shoot it for a wide screen even though the top and bottom are really there and later on they add the black bars and matt out the top and bottom and then it's widescreen. Or something like that. And when it gets played on TV or whatever, to make it fullscreen that can just take off the bars without paning and scaning. I assumed that it was done this way years ago but for some reason they just now started labeling the boxes with "matted" widescreen instead of just saying letterboxed. Of course we're probably both wrong and it's something completely different. I dunno. I've looked for answers on the mystery that is matted movies but haven't found one yet. But dammit, I hate you Chud. I thought I didn't have anything to buy this week and then you tell me Black Christmas is coming out. First you suckered me into paying 40 dollars for that damn Werewolf show and now this!

Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted November 26, 2002 Ice Age is a good movie, but its short, although I remember reading somewhere that the DVD has enough special features to last twice as long as the movie itself (a mere 81 minutes)
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted November 26, 2002 Everywhere i look says Black Christmas isn't out until December 3rd. You sure you have the release date for it correct? Actually, December 3rd is the U.S. release date. It comes out on the 26th in Canada, and I'm in Canada. I forgot about the 1 week delay in the U.S. My bad. Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted November 26, 2002 Zombie 4: is this Lucio Fulci's Zombie, or another flick? It's a sequel to the Fulci flick, but in name only I believe. The original is Fulci's Zombie, then Burial Ground: Night of Terror which is actually part 2, then Zombi 3: After Death, followed by Zombie 4.

First you suckered me into paying 40 dollars for that damn Werewolf show and now this! Haha, I will make you poor! So you actually went out and bought that Werewolf collection? How is the quality? If I were you, I'd copy those episodes to VCD or DVD, so the quality won't get worse every time you watch it. If you can't do it on your computer, find someone who will, it's worth it. Hell, I'd buy a set off you if you were able to transfer it to disc.

ATI TV WONDER VE TV Tuner and Video Capture for PC — 100-703102 Actually a good card for making recordings onto your PC and then burning into a VCD except for the fact it didn't play well with XP. The original is Fulci's Zombie, then Burial Ground: Night of Terror which is actually part 2, then Zombi 3: After Death, followed by Zombie 4. Actually, I'm pretty sure that Dawn of the Dead was retitled "Zombie" in Italy, and Fulci's movie was supposedly a sequel to it, called Zombie 2, trying to cash in on Romero's popularity in that country. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted November 26, 2002 I think Jingus is right, since Fulci's Zombie is listed as Zombi 2, and IMDb lists After Death as Zombie 4. Bah I can't even follow, just give me a bunch of Chanukah money and wake me when 28 Days Later comes out on DVD.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted November 26, 2002 Well I believe that Fulci's Zombie and the Italianized Dawn Of The Dead are completely different franchises. Also i believe the Italianized DOTD is called Zombi. The whole DOTD, Zombi, Zombie thing is a confusing mess. Edit: Well nevermind Fulci's Zombie was a sequel to the Italian DOTD, but in name only. So other than name they are different franchises but are technically sequels. Here's a quote from IMDB... "Fulci at least found work in television before breaking into the international market with Zombi 2 (Zombie), an in-name-only sequel to George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, which had been released in Italy as Zombies." Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted November 27, 2002 Is 'Zombie' the same 'Zombie' with them on the island? I saw that and then a few weeks later our 5th grade class went to the St. Louis Zoo, and one of the things about aquatic animals had the scene where the zombie tried to eat the shark, I was marking out for that shit...too bad they got rid of that... Yes in the US Zombie is the one you're thinking of. Only in Italy is it called Zombi 2 because DOTD was called Zombie in Italy.
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted November 27, 2002 Damn all these Zombie movies. Damn them all to hell. So, let's try and clear this up. Lucio Fulci's Zombie, is a no relation sequel to Romero's Dawn of the Dead, and was called Zombie 2 overseas. Then someone made Burial Ground, which is considered by people to be a sequel to Fulci's film, which would make it Zombie 2 in the U.S. and Zombie 3 overseas. Then, someone made Zombi 3, which is the sequel to Burial Ground, which is the sequel to Zombie. Finally, we have Zombie 4: After Death. This film could actually be considered the 5th in the series, if Fulci's Zombie is seriously considered a sequel to Dawn of the Dead (which it isn't by most people), so Zombie 4: After Dead is really the 4th in the series, with Fulci's Zombie being the first. Unless you are in some countries, which may consider it the 5th in the series, although it's called 4. There, that was easy.

Guest Lethargic Report post Posted December 4, 2002 So did anybody get this Black Christmas disc? I went to get it but nobody had it. Just the same old 25th disc they did, not the new one. But I DID answer the matting mystery. Black Christmas WAS shot full screen, so getting the matted widescreen version is actually just as bad widescreen>fullscreen, it's just cutting out a different part. Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2002 I picked up Transformers. As did I, as I mark for classic Soundwave. Good quality, good sound, and they even seemed to correct SOME of the mistakes. Can't wait until the second half of season 2, with Bruticus, Stunticons and Arielbots, etc. Already got the movie, so I'll have the whole timeline up to season 3 (hard to believe there was only 3 seasons, they were long as hell though).
