I love how people don't understand HHH...

It is really great to read posts about how Bangs used to be so good from Jan 2000-Feb 2001.

Fact is, he is the SAME wrestler as he was back then. There is no difference.

He sucked then and he sucks now.

Trips has not changed at all. Yet, apparently everyone thinks he has.

he had great matches though, i'll give him that. I never liked him, however. And I'm sure having a great match with mick foley or the rock or steve austin isn't TOO hard. He was less crippled, but yeah he pretty much had the same offense.

He was great at brawls (see RR '00 and No Way Out for examples) and sold a hell of a lot more than he does now. I still don't know how he and Rock pulled that Iron Man match out of their asses, though.

I remember a match HHH had in May of 2000 (I think) against Taka Michenoku (sorry about the spelling). Taka was in control for the majority of the match and Trips sold like a motherfuck for him. Everyone knew that Taka was going to lose cleanly. But the match itself was really good because it was not a squash and Trips made Taka look very good.

Now fast forward two years and we see that Trips has made a complete 180. He doesn't sell or make people look nearly as good as he did two years ago.

I didn't have the Internet until late 1999. But it was painfully obvious that Hogan & Nash had too much power backstage in WcW and the same with Shawn Michaels in the WWF, just from watching them on Camera.

Same thing with Triple H today.

Um...he was kind of over back then.

Not to say that he isn't now...but they're pushing him like he was 2000 HHH over...which he's far from. When he came back he was going to get a face pop no matter what, but when he turned he's just not had the same reaction.

And he had classic matched with Austin, Angle. Jericho, Foley, and Rock durring that time...since he's came back he's hardly had a classic match.

And I think he needs to feud with workers the fans care about, I mean seriously care about...like Austin or Rock...fans really don't care about Kane or even HBK that much these days. I mean the feud and matches have been good, but not great.

And that Taka match was badass

If that Taka match happened today, it would be 90 seconds, tops.

No way Trips lets Taka get in that much offense and that close 2 count.

That Taka match is so overrated.

I think it gets so much press just because of the shock to see Triple H let him get that much offense in.

Really, it was your normal Saturday Night Match. It was something guys like Flair and the Midnight Express had done 100's of times before: Take opponents who have no chance, give them some offense to make the crowd get into it, eventually win. Nothing special in my opinion.

That's it too...the crowd was digging it.

And I miss that about oldschool NWA/WCW...how even though you knew the guy didn't have a chance in hell, the midcarders were given title shots.

Glad to know Im not the only one who loved that match. It was like Taks best WWF match without Sasuke. HHH sold and for a moment you thought Taka may win, even though you know he couldnt...still awesome match especially by HHH standards/

I always found HHH to be a shitty wrestler. He just worked hard during the time period where everyone seemed to be in love with him.

HHH didn't suck during his 2000 reign. It wasn't just the fact that he sold a lot more, he used more then 3 moves that he uses now. Plus, he was a lot quicker before the juice added another 20lbs of pimples on his back.

One of the reasons I don't like HHH now isn't because of his backstage pulls, but because he just sucks in the ring.

HHH had talent when he came in. He had tallent up until he returned from his quad tear.

Here's my theory...

All of his talent was centralized in his legs. Notice that through most of his career...WCW and WWF/E, he wore long tights.

When he started to wear short tights, the talent started to slowly seep out of his legs. He still had talent, but it was slowly fading.

When he had surgery on his quad, all the talent flew out...and thus he had to resort to backstage politics to keep his spot at the top

the major difference between 2000 and the present is that HHH had real Main Event competition from Austin and Rock after Foley made HHH look good in their series. Today there is no real Main Eventers and having HHH just walk all over the upper Midcard of Bubba, Kane, Bradshaw, Booker T along with the mini blonds just looks bad.

I think everyone has some good points here. Triple H is not that great a wrestler, true, but his brawling skills and his selling ability back in the 2000 era got him over with both the crowd and "smart" fans. Now he doesn't need those skills so we're back to seeing him wrestle low-quality matches with his boring moveset, minus the quality brawling and nary a hint of selling.

I still think 2 major problems with hHh is:

1. He'll never wrestle the same after his quad injury.

2. He's 50 pounds heavier.

He's slowed down a bit, become a lot lazier, never allows the babyface substabial offense (look at the Taka match from 2000 and the Bubba match and see the difference), he's also using his influence *a lot* more.
