Women's wrestling...

Recommended Posts

Guest Mole

There is one thing I can't stand about wrestling, women's wrestling. It just plain old sucks. Has there EVER been a *** match when two women were fighting? Not that I have ever seen. It doesn't draw jack shit, and the crowd doesn't seem to care about it that much.

So why the fuck is it still around? It is just wasting TV time.

Trish/Steph from No Way Out 2001 was awesome. I'm not the best person to ask about this though, because I'm a huge mark for women's wrestling. Nothing pisses me off more than a T&A match.

I actually enjoy women's wrestling...seeing the men do wrestling moves is all right, but the women's wrestling is neat because it shows that wrestling is something that both genders can get into.

And besides that, WWE Women's Wrestling has my goddess in it. ^^

cause the women aren't trained like the men are. they're hired for eye candy, and that's their primary function.

don't let the wwf fool you though. women's wrestling can be just as good as men's. go to the puro folder & they can tell you what's up.

Jeez. Women wrestling sucks?

Are you like, Scott Keith?

Victoria/Trish was ATLEAST a *** match on Raw.

But you can't see that because Lawler screaming puppies and Victoria licking Stacy pre-match.

I'd say 9 out of every 8 joshi fans would be screaming for your head on a platter by now...

North American women's wrestling sucks because there aren't enough NA women who are being trained in actual wrestling. Throughout most of history, women have been used as valets, managers, girlfriends, handlers, sex objects, etc... anything other than legitimate wrestlers. NA wrestling has trained fans to view them as either eye candy (Elizabeth, Sunny, Sable) or shit disturbers (Woman, Marlena, Debra). And when they did have legit women wrestlers who could do both (Sherri, Madusa, Ivory), they were either unattractive or had no charisma, so promoters tended to give them no airtime and no legitimacy. Hence, fans sit on their hands.

Fast forward to today, where they're finally getting women who actually look decent to learn to wrestle like wrestlers and less like apartment cat fighters. However, the fan perspective still pervades the norm, so even when Trish and Victoria are putting together a decent match, male fans are still chanting for puppies, HLA, pudding matches... anything but actual wrestling. So promoters are still hesitant to push it further.

It's going to take a lot of patience on the promoters part to stick to an actual push for women's wrestling, and the willingness to retrain the fans to enjoy it. It seems like they're finally coming around for the most part, given the 8 minute + title match from the last RAW. The women are doing their part by taking the business seriously, as seen by current smark faves Molly and Jazz. Now we as a male-dominated fanbase need to ignore the Jerry Lawler part of our mindset and appreciate the female performers as anything other than sex objects. It's all a self-perpetuating daisy chain. Once the fans appreciate them, the promoters will give them more exposure, and the wrestlers will get better and better, which will make the fans appreciate them more, ad infinitum.

Considering the average NA fan, however, I wouldn't hold my breath...

WHAT?????

eight minutes does not a *** match make. it was slow, sloppy, boring and painful to watch. victoria was on offense for way way too long, and it was obvious she had no idea what to do. they don't know how to pace a match, and it suffered a lot as a result.

One of the better women wrestlers but she is relegated to dark matches because she wouldn't let Nowinski put it inside.

I thought the women's match was one of the better ones on Raw last night. Victoria showed a bigger moveset than most of the main eventer.s Admittedly, not saying much.

There was some slopiness and it did go on too long, but I would rather watch that then stomp stomp kick punch stomp.

She's been on Heat too...winning.

As long as she's still employed....^^

Oh...and they did have some all right looking good women's wrestlers in the past. Two that come to mind are Wendi Richter and Sherri

the Vertebreaker was stolen from a woman wrestler in FMW.

Molly, Victoria, Trish, Ivory are good wrestlers for Raw standards, while the rest of the women are just a reason to buy lotion.

Yeah, but Richter was never Ms. charisma, and Sherri in her later years was always pushed as a manager

Well, Richter not being Ms. Charisma was forgivable back then. Mic skills weren't as high a priority back in the mid 80s as it is today.

And true about Sherri...maybe she just didn't feel like wrestling much more.

...and also, she was around in a time when there weren't any women's titles, so there was nothing she could go for back then.

Besides Sunny pre-crackwhore days, how many women in wrestling can you say had much charisma and/or mic skills? Ever? They either don't have them or don't have much of a chance to show them.

I don't remember Wendi being that great, but its been a long time so I'm not sure. I think she would probably be comparable to Trish Stratus, good, but not great. I would have liked to have seen Alundra Blaze/Madusa go against some of these women.

From what I remember of them, I don't think they'd fare well with today's crop of female grapplers. Neither of them had a great moveset. They relied mostly on the hair pulling, beals out of the corner, and incessant shrieking of a typical GLOW match. Their strengths lay in the emotion they put into their matches. They told their story with facial expressions, interracting with the crowds, etc. Given that women weren't given much opportunity to do a lot with their matches back then, I don't know if they could adapt to today's harder-hitting, faster-paced style.

No match with that much miscommunication, and botched spots will ever get three stars. I think that you're the one who is blinded because you're wanting to see something that isn't there.

That, of course, being talent.

ATLEAST a *** match? Did you watch the same match I watched? That match did not warrant a * match, let alone a *** match.

Seriously, what made you think that? Where was the psychology in the match? I know, when Victoria licked Stacey's ear. Oh wait, that was just bad acting.

Face it, women's wrestling in the US sucks. I've never seen any women wrestling from Japan, so I can't put my two cents in on that. Why do you think that the women's wrestling only revolves around the title? BECAUSE IT'S REALLY BORING. When was the last time there was a women's storyline when there wasn't a title involved? Not counting any Bra & Panties matches because that isn't wrestling, thats sports-entertainment.

Granted, the Steph/Trish match from WM17 was good, but I think something was in the water in Texas that night, for everything kicked ass that night.

This might sound gay, but I don't watch wrestling for women, I watch it for good ol' wrestling and the women don't bring that.

But what we've seen in the last few weeks of US women's wrestling, it's light years ahead of the stuff we've seen SINCE Madusa's reign in WCW.

Why do you think that the women's wrestling only revolves around the title? BECAUSE IT'S REALLY BORING.

There will be interest in the women's division, when the WWE gives a shit about the division. The division currently has at least 5 good workers (Victoria, Jacqueline, Trish, Ivory, Molly) with a soon-returning Jazz and Lita. If you don't infuse interest into the division, don't expect the half-hearted angles and poorly-trained acting to garner ratings and buyrates.

It was from No Way Out, but that's beside the point.

Yet, last night's match was only 2nd to the World Title "Dream Match"...go figure.

Bull Nakano vs. Aludra Blayze was better than this. So I don't see where this 'light-years' trash is coming from. Trish vs. Victoria was way too choppy and lacked fluidity to be considered anywhere near ***. This is not to say I don't see the improvement in the division and it's wrestlers (esp. trish) but I would rather them have a cruiserweight match on instead.

Nakano/Blayze (if you're speaking about their WWF feud) came 2 years before Madusa's title reign in WCW (1994 compared to 1996).

From 1996 to 2002, yes, we've seen mega-crap.

Trish vs. Victoria was way too choppy and lacked fluidity to be considered anywhere near ***.

Yeah, it is nowhere near ***, but SK's rating of it was incredibly biased on what he's supposedly seen overseas. He's given 30 second squashes on RAW the same 1/2* rating.

I seem to remember some great Japanese women in WCW for a while, back in the days of the Asian Invasion, etc... I forget her name, but I really was into a few of her matches, and of course, against Madusa.

I believe you're talking about Akira Hokuto (sp), who with Madusa, had the WCW create an entire Women's Championship Tournament around the pair, back in '96.

Yep, that would be her. If I remember correctly, she was/is with/married to Chono.

Didn't WCW also bring in Bull Nakano for a short bit?

Si, I enjoyed those matches back in the day.
