Guest SP-1 Report post Posted November 27, 2002 Ghostbusters 3 Ecto-Plastered Harold Ramis explains why. November 26, 2002 - The prognosis for making Ghostbusters 3? Not good. Not good at all. While discussing sequels at last Saturday's press conference for Analyze That (official site: AnalyzeThatMovie.com), director Harold Ramis (Ghostbusters' Egon) and actor Billy Crystal discussed the prospect of a third Analyze This and a third Ghostbusters. "We're going to combine them," said Ramis. Acknowledging actor Robert De Niro on his right, he explained, "Bob thinks he's seeing ghosts so Billy calls the Ghostbusters." "Who am I'm gonna call?" said Crystal as if he wouldn't call anyone else. "And these three very aging fat guys come in in really tight jumpsuits," said Ramis. "Pantsbusters," said Crystal. "I don't think it's going to happen," said Ramis. "It did to me," said Crystal. And Ramis concluded with a direct note: "We played around with it, but this one I can't see." That's the current word. But wait, there's more. Note the new issue of Scr(i)pt magazine (Nov/Dec, 2002). Within its pages is an interview with Harold Ramis by journalist David Cohen. Of Ghostbusters 3, Ramis told Cohen: "I wrote a draft though, we had a pretty good idea – Ghostbusters go to hell. But the deal couldn't be made." "It's sad that the economics became so overwhelming," said Cohen. "It is," said Ramis. "We thought we'd introduce new Ghostbusters and appear as the mentors of the new Ghostbusters or not appear in it at all. Bill Murray wouldn't appear in it. I think he didn't want to see a sequel made, so he became kind of obstructionist about it." "It's hard to do it without him," said Cohen. "Well, it could have been three new Ghostbusters without any of us," said Ramis, "and the story Dan (Aykroyd) and I were evolving could have worked." Taken from a Film Force IGN article found Here. All I have to say is that this saddens me greatly. Ever since I first heard rumors of a GB3 I was psyched about it. The first two movies and cartoon series were what I was all about as a kid, and all versions of the GB concept spawned from the first film stand well against time, in my opinion. I was really hoping to see 3 made, as the story they were playing with was pretty darn awesome. I was really psyched about it. But, money issues and Bill "Triple H" Murray have apparently killed it dead now. Suck. SP

Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted November 27, 2002 GB2 was perfectly alright, scared the SHIT out of me as a kid, but when its predecessor was the greatest movie of all time it had a tough act to follow. GB3 would never have worked, Ramis is a kickass director but it was totally unecessary.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted November 27, 2002 He'll do The Man Who Knew Too Little, Osmosis Jones, and Larger than Life, but not GB3?
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted November 27, 2002 Yes, Jingus, my sentiments exactly. I've known about this for about 2 years, when the first thoughts of GB3 were really kicking up. Then Aykroyd came out and said Murray didn't want it to happen, because he didn't want to be remembered as Peter Venkman for the rest of his career. Sorry, Billy-boy, but when Venkman is the best role you've ever played, it's going to happen. Besides, I know more people that remember you as the dope-smoking greenskeeper in Caddyshack than as the wise-assed parapsychologist. If anybody wants it, I have a fan-script for GB3 written by M. Scott, and it really is quite an epic. Not too sure how large of a file it is, but it's in Notepad. It features the return of Walter Peck, too.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted November 27, 2002 I remember reading some Aykroyd interview, probably over five years ago now, where he talked about doing a third one with a new cast. At the time he was looking at Chris Farley as Stanz' cousin, David Spade as Egon's nephew, Chris Rock as Winston's nephew and Dennis Miller as Bill Murray's brother. The idea was something like the original group had to go on a special mission and they called up their relatives to hold the fort in New York.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted November 27, 2002 Why not make an adaption of the cartoon of Ghost Busters with the Gorilla! Ghost Busters 2 was lame
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted November 27, 2002 Because, Raza, then Ray Parker Jr. would have to rewrite the theme and call it "Let's Go, Ghostbusters". Filmation's Ghostbusters was a good show. BATTY OWNS YE ALL~! I always figured that GB3 would be based off of Extreme Ghostbusters. My love for that show really is amazingly overwhelming... Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted November 27, 2002 There have been rumors of another Ghostbuster movie for years now. I remember reading a long time ago that Will Smith and Chris Farley were close to being signed for the third film. How long has Farley been dead now? I doubt it will ever happen but if it does I would like to see the original four return along with Sigourney Weaver.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted November 27, 2002 I remember reading the Farley rumors. I also think that Will Smith's being involved with the MIB franchise killed any involvement he may have had with the Ghostbusters property. I wouldn't mind seeing Ramis and Dan Aykeroid put together an Extreme Ghostbusters movie. Heck, that would be pretty cool, actually. The cartoon was okay, and I think if they wrote a movie version in the same adult vein as the first GB movie, it could be prety funny. As long as they stay away from any teen horror flick kind of crap. A live action, more mature wiseass Eduardo would be pretty cool, IMHO. SP
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted November 28, 2002 Sorry, Billy-boy, but when Venkman is the best role you've ever played, it's going to happen. WHOA, there! Herman Blume is his greatest role. EVER.

Guest Vyce Report post Posted November 29, 2002 I always figured that GB3 would be based off of Extreme Ghostbusters. My love for that show really is amazingly overwhelming... I can't believe this - another Extreme Ghostbusters fan! Dude, most die-hard Ghostbusters fans don't like that show. We're a rare breed indeed. I'm a HUGE Ghostbusters fan. I've seen the original dozens of times. The animated series? One of the best ever. It ranks WAY up there in my book, maybe one of the 10 best animated programs of all time. In a sense, I'm kind of sad to see the possibility of a third film finally be nixed once and for all, but really, I think all of us GB fans knew that it was only a pipe dream. Still, here's a couple fun sites to visit: Real Ghostbusters Fan Page and Ghostbusters.net

Hell yeah that show kicked ass. Prime Evil flew around on magic laser-shooting organ and there was a poacher ghost dude in a safari hat and a giant gorilla. You CANNOT go wrong with giant gorillas. ............. Ohh...you probably meant the REAL Ghostbusters. They're pretty okay too, I guess. *shrug*

Guest Heel In Peril Report post Posted November 29, 2002 GB2 was NOT lame. I actually find it more rewatchable than the first, although several scenes and lines from the first make the era in themselves. i.e.: Venkman - "For whatever reasons Ray. Call it fate. Call it luck. Call it karma. I believe that everything happens for a reason. I believe that we were destined to get kicked out of this dump... To go into business for ourselves." or Winston - "Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say 'YES'!" or Venkman - "Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown." And the list of memorables goes on and on. But I would never put down GB2... Although, how indeed did that Statue of Liberty take that first step without shattering or tipping over? Oh well. Classic shit.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted November 29, 2002 "They caused an explosion!!" "Is this true?" "Yes it's true, this man has no dick." (scuffle ensues and is broken up) "Well that's what I heard!" Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted November 29, 2002 LOL, one of my favorite scenes there, Kotz. My favorite scene in GB2, though, is when Yanosh (sp?) visits Dana after the blackout. "And how is de baayyebe? WHOOOOOOO!" "Oh, he's ah . . . he's sleeping." "OH! But I wooed!" Or something like that. That makes me laugh pretty much every time. EGON: "I'd like to run some gynological tests on the mother." VENKMAN: "Who wouldn't?" Yeah, GB2 has some great moments, too. Is EGB entirely on video? Or just select episodes? Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted November 29, 2002 Is EGB entirely on video? Or just select episodes? Select episodes. I think if you look hard enough you could find the two tapes they put out of EGB. I know I have every episode on tape (aside from HALF of one, and the Gremlin episode runs at the end of one tape onto the beginning of the next), but I have no fucking clue how to record off one VCR onto a blank tape on the other, so...yeah... Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted November 30, 2002 I can recite this movie line-for-line off the top of my head. The scenes goes as follows (starting with Ray's "dickless" comment): Ray: "Everything was going fine until the power grid was turned off my dickless here." Peck: "THEY CAUSED AN EXPLOSION!" Mayor: "Is this true?" Pete: "Yes, it's true. This man has no dick." **rabbling as Peck tries to go at Pete, but security and Ray and egon hold him back** Peck: "I'm fine, I'm fine..." Pete: "WELL THAT'S WHAT I HEARD!"
