Guest RenegadeX28 Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 I go to the Nintendojo forums, and one of the members received this image in their email: I immediately knew which characters they blurred out. If this is the announcement, this would surely put Nintendo ahead of XBOX and PS2.
Guest razazteca Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 what are you trying to say here? is this a Smash Brothers game or what? Nintendo will not move on top not until March 2003 when Pokemon comes out, even then the other companies will have a strong presense in Internet gaming. Nintendo is waisting to much time on hardware add-ons and is not putting out enough games.
Guest ElectricRaccoon Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 My guess is that it's a crossover game, a la Capcom vs. SNK, rather than a merger of the involved companies. That'd still be pretty slick, though.
Guest Flyboy Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 I still can't tell what characters they blurred out..
Guest Renegade Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 Ah fuck, one of the main reasons I got a PS2 was because its got the bigger bulk of Capcom games....
Guest Flyboy Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 Sega Vs. Capcom Vs. Nintendo MELEE~!
Guest ElectricRaccoon Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 If this actually comes to pass, all they have to do is give it a slightly deeper fighting engine than Super Smash Bros. Melee, hide/include some serious old-school Sega and Capcom characters (Alex Kidd on the Sega side would be THIS close to being as badass as including Strider Hiryu in Marvel vs. Capcom), and boom, the next killer app.
Guest razazteca Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 forget Alex Kid add Shinobi and Golden Axe characters
Guest ElectricRaccoon Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 And the Space Harrier. Hell, and the Dynamite Dux (I forget whether or not Sega developed that one in-house, but they published it). I mean, considering the Ice Climbers were in Melee, what reason is there NOT to include the Dux?
Guest RenegadeX28 Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 Well, the guy who received the pic did some tinkering with the picture, and found out the blurriness was Photoshop mosaic
Guest redbaron51 Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 isn't all three of those games licensed by Nintendo anyways?
Guest redbaron51 Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 probably it was just for shits and giggles
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 Not likely. Neither of these companies need each other. Well, Sega saw profits fall again so maybe they wouldn't mind a tighter relationship with Nintendo, but Capcom has been a big success on all three platforms, and Nintendo plugs along and makes money on their own games.
Guest ElectricRaccoon Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 Eh, it's still fun to speculate. Hell, just Nintendo vs. Sega (although they'd have to dredge the depths to get a decent number of "signature" mascot characters for the Sega side - Vectorman and Ristar, anyone?) would be a cool take on Smash Bros.
Guest Flyboy Posted November 30, 2002 Report Posted November 30, 2002 I would have fun just with Sonic Vs. Mario. Lungi Vs. Tails, etc..

BOOOOO! Ristar blows!
Guest ElectricRaccoon Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 I figured that went without saying. I read in a review (on either Gamespy or Gamespot, I forget which) that they actually put Ristar in as a hidden title in the recent Sonic collection, and left out Sonic CD. There's a good move. Also, there's another problem that could surface. Assembling a collection of Sega's attempts at mascot characters not named Sonic could mean the return of (Sideshow Bob shudder)...Bug. Although, I would groove on seeing the Clockwork Knight again. A bad game, sure, but a cool enough character design.
Guest EQ Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 I doubt the companies are going to merge, but a crossover game would be pretty neat. Would you rather see a SSB style fighter or a MvC style fighter? This is assuming they're even making a fighting game at all. Imagine an adventure game with these 3 as the stars?
LaParkaYourCar Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 Did Nintendo and Capcom merge already? Because on a couple of GBA games the opening logo says both Nintendo and Capcom.....on games you would think Capcom had no business in. Like Zelda:Four Swords for the GBA.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 I haven't heard anything about Nintendo and Sega merging, but I have heard that Microsoft is offering to buy Sega for a ton of money. Also, Nintendo and NAMCO have partnered up in the Arcade business, which could bring Nintendo characters to the Arcade (which hasn't happened since Midway did Killer Instinct) and some possible Gamecube exclusive NAMCO games..

Ahhh... Killer Instinct. That game rocked when it first came out.
Guest RenegadeX28 Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 Well, some more rumors about this announcement: I have seen this one in a lot of sites.... NINTENDO TO SUE SONY From what I remember reading, Nintendo will be suing Sony for using the name "Playstation." Lawyers have uncovered a clause in their contract from long ago saying that the name Playstation is Nintendo's property. If Nintendo does win the lawsuit, get this........ALL PROFIT Sony has made under the Playstation name has to be transferred to Nintendo. If this were to happen, this would cripple Sony. Most sites think this is what is going to happen. About M$ buying Sega, M$ has denied that they are buying Sega.

Anyways, Capcom has not merged with nintendo, MS were trying to buy them out but Capcom refused *phew*
Guest RenegadeX28 Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 If that lawsuit were to happen..........there will be a lot of unhappy PS2 owners. I hope the announcement is something about Earthbound for GCN, or that merging.

That goes back to when Sony and Nintendo were partners on a prototype add on for the SNES. Nintendo backed out at the last second and Sony decided to go about it on their own and the rest is history.. Looking back, I think Nintendo screwed that up Big Time, but at the time they didnt see the feasability in a CD based console system (this was like 1993/4 or abouts). SEGA CD bombed, the Phillips CD-I bombed, The SEGA Saturn bombed, Atari Jaguar/CD bombed, all of these were released prior to the Playstation. So had Nintendo gone through with the deal, while they would have probably lost a lot of money, they wouldn't have the stiff competition from Sony right now. It took Nintendo almost 5 years longer to launch a CD based system, but they are not losing any money on the Gamecube like Sony and Microsoft are, which was probably their main concern with the CD based system (console production costs higher than the price of the console) I honestly think that if there were any truth to the rumor, Nintendo would have sued a long time ago before Sony had time to establish the Playstation name as their own..
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Guys, the next-gen console war: Round 1 is over. Sony won. MS is almost giving away X- Boxes, Gamecube is profitable, but nowhere near the sucess Nintendo needed. This lawsuit is sheer desperation. In 5 years, Nintendo will be where Sega is now.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 There is only room for 2...and if the competition were fair...I think it's obvious that MS would lose in the long run. They are hand over fist losing the most money by the truckfull. But they're just going to keep throwing money at it. So they aren't going anywhere.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 I figure Microsoft will eventually bail on the X Box. X Box live is going to bomb because not enough people have Broadband and those who do probably already play online games on their computers. Microsoft cannot continue to lose $100+ on each console sold, no matter how much money they have to throw at it. There are not that many games on the X Box that are exclusives that warrant an X Box purchase. Sony and Nintendo are in good positions right now, and its only the seemingly endless cash flow from Microsoft that is keeping it afloat. IF it were any other company that made the X Box, it would be gone by now..
