Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted December 1, 2002 Slashers - I'm watching this one right now as I type this. PLOT: Japan's hottest extreme reality game show, SLASHERS, makes it's US debut with six American contestants. The six contestants are on the run from the three slashers, who are blood-thirsty killers decked out in costumes that would make Kane look 100% heterosexual (except for The Preacherman; his costume is among my favorite horror movie costumes ever). Basically, you can only win by surviving. Fans of Series 7: The Contenders and The Running Man will like this. I've been into it so far, as it feels like a game show itself. Super Troopers - Saw it 2 weeks after it opened in theaters, and I loved it. Decided to rent it. PLOT: A Vermont Highway Patrol precinct is in trouble of being closed down due to budget cuts by the state, and their solving of a recent drug case could be their ticket to staying around. Death To Smoochy - Wanted to see it, but never got around to. PLOT: A kid's TV show host is replaced by a man in a purple rhinoceros suit named Smoochy. The former host, played by Robin Williams, goes insane, and tries to murder Smoochy, played by Edward Norton.
Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted December 1, 2002 I rented three movies last weekend: Comic Book Villains, Pumpkin and Fast Sofa. All of them are pretty decent indie flicks. A double dose of Natasha Lyonne is never bad, especially when you add a sprinkle of Christina Ricci, Jennifer Tilly and Bijou Philips.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted December 1, 2002 did Natasha Lyonne have any nude scenes? Slums of Beveley Hills and Free Way 2 rule! Anything with Edward Nortan is always good. American History X!
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted December 1, 2002 I rented Monster Inc.(My mom made me rent it so the family could watch it after Thanksgiving dinner), Reign of Fire and Bubble Boy(Don't laugh my friend really wanted to see it, the DVD was too scratched so it got unwatchable)
Guest Mattdotcom Report post Posted December 1, 2002 I don't think a perfectly clean DVD of Bubble Boy is watchable. *Rimshot*
Guest ElectricRaccoon Report post Posted December 1, 2002 Last night I rented Ran, Waking Life and Metropolis (the recent anime version). I saw Ran a couple of years ago, so I haven't watched it yet, but Metropolis and Waking Life...wow. Especially Waking Life - it's like an old-school head movie, except with narrative structure and good dialogue. Some of the parts about film seemed a little self-congratulatory, but damn. I'm SO buying that DVD now. I think this beats Slacker as my favorite Linklater movie.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted December 1, 2002 I watched a little of Reign of Fire the other day and it looked amazing. I'm going to watch it as soon as it comes on the dish.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted December 1, 2002 Holy SHIT was Slashers a great movie. Yeah, the acting can be pretty bad at times (particularly Rebecca and Devon), and the effects are cheeseriffic (I mean, they make Troma's effects look like Jurassic Park by comparison...still not as bad as Brain Dead Studios, though, so it's good), but...FUCK! Chainsaw Charlie and Preacherman are acted so wonderfully over-the-top, and the similarities between this reality game show in the movie and ACTUAL reality game shows are so incredibly great that you have to wonder when a reality game show where the contestants actually DO get killed is going to come along. And the weird part? Maurice Deveaux, Slashers' writer/director/editor/producer, wrote the script in 1998. This man...fuck...this man is now my favorite director. Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted December 2, 2002 I wouldn't really waste much time on Reign of Fire. People talked good about this movie when it first came out and I have no idea why. It was pretty bleh and the ending was mighty anticlimatic. I'm glad I didn't waste the money to actually go to the theater for this one. I would've been pissed. Matt McConaughey's ripped in it, though, if that's your thing. What was he on? Natasha Lyonne doesn't have any nude scenes in Comic Book Villians or Fast Sofa. But you get plenty of nastiness from Jennifer Tilly in Fast Sofa; she plays a porn star who REALLY REALLY enjoys her work. The downside? She fucks JAKE Busey. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted December 3, 2002 I've been going through various movies from Blockbuster recently: The Dead Hate the Living: a wonderful little low-budget zombie flick about people who make and love low-budget zombie flicks. The ending is a real downer, and the effects are cheaps as hell, but the movie has a brain in its (rotting) head and actually makes some characters seem like real, likable people. One of the better horror movies of the past few years. Kolobos: I stopped watching after about ten minutes of lame "scares", bad acting, and horribly forced and unfunny "comedy". Phantasm: ah, the wonders of cheapy 70's horror flicks, when NOTHING made sense and chicks still took their clothes off. Angus Scrimm's Tall Man is goofy fun, his first (ridiculously hammy) line had us all rolling. Spider-Man: a bit disappointing, actually. I'd heard all this hype about what an awesome movie this was, and I ended up liking it, but not loving it, I still think X-Men was better. Brotherhood of the Wolf: Tim Burton WISHES he could've made Sleepy Hollow this fucking awesome. Imagine all of the good parts of that movie mixed in with a Michael Mann-esque epic feel and some badass martial arts, and you have this great piece of cinema. Ghost World: didn't save my soul or anything like some people claimed it would, but a decent little film. Much better than the incredibly overrated graphic novel it was adapted from. Thora Birch and Steve Buscemi are good as usual. Subspecies: disappointing entry from Full Moon, not up to their usual standards, and not as good as its sequels. Monsters Inc: those folks at Pixar sure do know their stuff, and it continues with this ridiculously creative, colorful, fast-paced and fun movie. How a bunch of monsters who never existed outside of a Mac can feel more real and alive than many human actors, god only knows. Kung-Pow: just had to through this one on here. After the unspeakably lame first scene is over, it turns into one of the funniest damn things I've ever seen, a What's Up Tiger Lily for the next generation. Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted December 3, 2002 Death to Smoochy = FUCKING SOLID GOLD. Only some select words can really do justice to this movie: "My Stepdad's not mad, he's just adjusting!!" as well as "It's a COCK! It's a COCK AND BALLS!!" Reign of Fire = FUCKING SOLID DUD. ROF was seriously bad, especially the second half, despite having one of the coolest plots ever. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest kingkamala Report post Posted December 3, 2002 I just watched Reign of Fire again and I must say I was disapointed.....sure it wasn't as bad ass certain people on this board are saying but it sure had a lot of untapped potential....and a sucky-ass ending. Guest godthedog Report post Posted December 3, 2002 i've been obsessed with early godard movies for the past month or so. the man made FOURTEEN fucking movies in SEVEN years. so i rented 'contempt' and '2 or 3 things i know about her'. 'contempt' was good, but '2 or 3 things' was a total piece of shit. it has exactly one redeeming quality, and that's only the last shot. and it's really short (eightysomething minutes), but that's technically not a redeeming factor. but oh my god was that movie boring. but i've seen almost all fourteen of his early movies. i think all i have left are 'la chinoise' and 'les carabiniers'. Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted December 3, 2002 Jingus, trust me, if you still have Kolobos, watch it. After the first half hour or so, when the deaths start piling up, you witness some Grade-A intelligent kills. The ending's a nice swerve, too. And Jingus, find yourself a copy of Phantasm II. It is THE epitome of how to make a GOOD horror sequel, as it builds off the first movie, while it can also exist on its own.
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted December 4, 2002 I watched Silent Rage tonight. It's basically about a genetically enhanced super crazy killer who fights Chuck Norris. It was wierd though, because it had this dark opening, then it becomes this kind of comedy, with a subplot featuring bikers, then it takes a 180 and turns into a horror movie. Anyway, Chuck Norris rules.
Guest geniusMoment Report post Posted December 5, 2002 Go rent office space. See the original ass clowns in action in a shockingly great movie. Yes Jennifer anniston was actually in a great movie.
