Guest Phr33k Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 The title here pretty much says it all. The Calgary Flames have lost 10 of 11, and it looks like it's gonna get worse with Detroit, Colorado and Minnesota coming up. Should they: 1) Fire Greg Gilbert 2) Fire Craig Button 3) Trade Jarome Iginla 4) Shake up the whole team, or 5) Do nothing
Guest bob_barron Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 I hope you didn't just realise this
Guest LaParkaMarka Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 If they trade Jerome Iginla, then they're complete morons. I'm not sure if a coaching change or a GM change will help at all, but they shouldn't ditch one of the premiere players in the league, unless they get a LOT in return.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 Maybe the horse's head on their sweaters is bad luck?
Guest Kingpk Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 If they trade Jerome Iginla, then they're complete morons. I'm not sure if a coaching change or a GM change will help at all, but they shouldn't ditch one of the premiere players in the league, unless they get a LOT in return. The Bruins did it with Jason Allison, and, surprisingly, it hasn't turned out as bad as everyone thought it would (especially since Allison is injured now).
Guest bob_barron Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 For Iginla they would have to get A LOT to justify it. But since the Flames have sucked since they won the Cup- maybe they should just accept it
Guest treble charged Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 Maybe the horse's head on their sweaters is bad luck? Yes, their road jerseys do suck donkey balls, but I don't think that's the reason that they're a terrible team. I think they're going to have to fire Greg Gilbert, but do NOT trade Jarome Iginla under any circumstances. Not only will the team itself likely suffer, but it's not exactly going to convince fans to go out to the games.
Guest Karnage Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 Although Iginla is a good player, he can't carry the team by himself. The best Canadian team in the West is the Vancouver Canucks by the way.
Guest bob_barron Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 Of course- everyone knows that Karnage
Guest CanadianChris Posted December 1, 2002 Report Posted December 1, 2002 The best Canadian team in the West is the Vancouver Canucks by the way. Yes, just like the best Canadian team in the East is the Ottawa Senators.
Guest Phr33k Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 They dominate gameplay, outshoot the Wings 33-18, force Joseph to flip and flop in the net like a fish, and STILL manage to lose. Why...
Guest Karnage Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 I think its time for Gilbert to be axed...
Guest Phr33k Posted December 2, 2002 Report Posted December 2, 2002 I would think so. Word around here, though, is that they need to shake up the whole team, you know, fuck youth and trade for established stars who can win NOW.
Guest Banky Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Trade Iginla. He is the second most overated player in the league behind Jose Theadore.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Boy it's sad when the Canucks are the best at anything. I wish Edmonton was better this year.
Guest Olympic Slam Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 Maybe the horse's head on their sweaters is bad luck? Really! I love the logo but they've gotta bring back the awesome that is the flaming C on the red sweater. I swear I'm sick of seing every team's road uniforms being black. As for the Flames' woes, give Gilvert the axe and trade Niedermayer for whatever you can get. From there I'd suggest keeping the roster as is and searching for a taskmaster or creative coach to try and make the team competitive.
Guest treble charged Posted December 3, 2002 Report Posted December 3, 2002 On HNIC, they were talking of promoting the St. John (AHL) coach up to the big team if Gilbert is fired anytime soon. I think this season can be pretty much written off already, though. Just spend the rest of the year looking for someone who's willing to go in there and lose a bunch of times.
Guest treble charged Posted December 4, 2002 Report Posted December 4, 2002 Well, they fired Gilbert today and replaced him with assistant coach Brad McCrimmon. Can't say this is much of surprise.
Guest Phr33k Posted December 5, 2002 Report Posted December 5, 2002 They fired McCrimmon too, and replaced him with Al MacNeil. Word has it that Jim Playfair, Larry Robinson or even Ted Nolan could be next in line. Theodore is not overrated. <------ And I like to see someone else who hates Niedermayer. Good job Olympic.
