Guest Human Fly Report post Posted December 3, 2002 They have made RVD into the new Lex Luger for this generation. Remeber after a while of not winning the big match everytime Lex was in a title match you would just roll your eyes? Well they've done it this time with RVD. JR last night was like "RVD has come so close to winning the title on so many occasions" that's when it hit me RVD = Lex Luger. Since Fall of '01 he has been getting title shots and he has yet to win it, after so long close doesn't count anymore. They almost did this with Jericho too, but they actually factored it into the storyline, and then he did win the big one. We know, we know, building of new stars takes time, but when you take too much time and don't pull the trigger it doesn't work!
Guest RedJed Report post Posted December 4, 2002 Actually I think at this point Van Dam might be this years D-Lo Brown more than anything. He injured someone (not to mention GOD himself) and now he's going to pay for it......and pay hard. Bet you will never see him even come close to main eventing a ppv ever again, and if he does, fans are going to know he won't win so they wont get into it or RVD. His status is soooo fucked after last night, it was the final nail in the coffin of a possible title chase. At least Lugar most of the time actually was given the impression that he was close to winning the title or competing. After last night RVD was made to look like a weak-ass babyface that couldn't beat a guy who is coming off an injury, even with fast counts and a biased ref. Guest buffybeast Report post Posted December 4, 2002 I think Batista will become the new modern day Luger. Batista will be pushed based on his look while having no skills or charisma.

Guest RedJed Report post Posted December 4, 2002 I think Batista will become the new modern day Luger. Batista will be pushed based on his look while having no skills or charisma. Actually I think Batista will end up being one of the biggest flops of a push in modern day wrestling, the way its looking. He's on Raw in an attempt to push him to a new level which in this day and age is a complete oxymoron statement. They'll keep this pointless squashes up for a few months, add in a few more screwjob wins over Kane, and probably even have RVD do a clean job. But by Mania time, he probably will be on Heat.....hell, maybe even sent back to OWV due to no ideas how to get him over.
Guest buffybeast Report post Posted December 4, 2002 There's a distinct possibility this will happen. I am miffed on his apparent lack of wrestling skill, however. I remember hearing so much about Batista (Leviathan) in Ohio. I wonder what happened?

RVD is not like D-Lo, since D-Lo was never truely annointed as "the future" by the various companies that he worked for. RVD is more or less the new Sting, in that he was supposed to be the next big franchise/superstar but injuries (most notably the injury that he sustained in ECW that put him out of action for nearly an entire year) and politics sabatoged him from ever being given a chance at super-stardom. Guest JHawk Report post Posted December 4, 2002 Sadly, I was thinking along these lines earlier with the RVD-Luger situation. But we're also overlooking another important factor. When Luger was so close yet so far, he was chasing Ric Flair, who was arguably the second most over World Champion of the 80s (trailing Hogan, as much as I hate to say that). Once the belt was off Austin for good, RVD hasn't even chased a champion that is over enough to make people care too much to begin with. Imagine if RVD was actually given that chance. It would be huge. But since the only heel they bother to push on Raw is that heatsink called Triple H, who knows if the crowd will ever pop for a title change on that show again. Dude, Sting had become a huge star by the end of it. I don't know what show you were watching. Oh yeah and Van Dam was out of action for like 3 months with that injury. Hardly a reason that he was held down, and this was in ECW where he was pushed to the moon and would have been world champ within the next few months if it wasn't for the company dying. What politics held Sting down? About the D-lo connection, I disagree since he was really making headway in his push and was going somewhere right until the Droz thing happened. If I remember right, he was the first guy to hold both the Euro and IC titles at the same time, and didn't this happen just a few months later? They certainly seemed to have major plans for him. So there is a connection there, IMO.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted December 4, 2002 Well...so far RVD has one up on Luger because no matter how many times he fails to win the fans haven't stopped caring about him completely yet. They will when the Office decides to turn him heel though. Oh...they will.
Guest RedJed Report post Posted December 4, 2002 They'll the same kind of turn they did with Flair in that they put him on a nice 9 month losing streak and then turn him with no purpose to it, I'm sure.

Guest Goodear Report post Posted December 4, 2002 I know that I'll keep saying this until I die, but Luger didn't blow until he finally got the WCW title when Flair bolted to the WWF. Before that, Luger brought the goods and had decent matches with tin cans like Danny Spivey and 'Mean' Mark Callous (aka Undertaker) for the US Title and the occasional great matches against the Steiner Brothers teamed with Sting. But the whole Flair thing sucked the life force right out of him and he really didn't fit in as whole crops of 6'5'' monsters kept coming in from development leagues.
