Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted December 5, 2002 LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Having the words "Steven Spielberg Presents" at the beginning of a program's title must be a ratings boon. The first evening of Sci Fi's ten-night miniseries "Taken" shattered the channel's audience record, with a 4.9 household rating and over 6 million unique viewers. This installment of the alien abduction saga topped the previous audience record holder, "Frank Herbert's Dune, Part One," by 28 percent. "I'm absolutely thrilled with the success of the premiere night of 'Taken,'" says Bonnie Hammer, president of SCI FI Channel. "It is simply an incredible testament to everyone involved in this project - all of whom lent support to what was an unparalleled creative risk." A DreamWorks production, "Taken" is the largest miniseries ever made for television. The 10-night, 20-hour saga examines the 20th-century mythology of alien visitation and abduction, beginning with the Roswell crash in the summer of 1947, continuing into the early years of the Atomic Age and ending in the present day. "Taken" airs on Sci Fi continuing through Friday, Dec. 6. As a big fan of Sci Fi channel, I think this is great news. Sadly, I haven't watched any of Taken yet, but I have all the episodes thus far on tape. I would really like to watch the whole series in one shot because suspense can be a bitch. Has anyone seen it though, what were your thoughts?
Guest red_file Report post Posted December 5, 2002 For what I've seen this far, I can't imagine why I'm not more interested. It's dealing with interesting things but not handling them in a compelling manner. More than likely I won't watch any more of it for lack of interest. Guest geniusMoment Report post Posted December 6, 2002 Its no X-files. If you liked the conspiracy episodes of the X-files do yourself a favor and rewatch them, not this second rate crap. Lets see the goverment knows about aliens and yet uses extreme measures to cover it up while a group of people attempt to uncover the truth, brillant how did Steven come up with it. Guest Lethargic Report post Posted December 6, 2002 The fact that it was 20 hours already had me debating bothering with it, once I saw how crappy it looked in the commercials I pretty much gave up on even bothering.
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted December 8, 2002 I watched the first four episodes today. I might watch number five tonight. As a fan of just about all Alien/UFO movies, I'm enjoying this series. The concept of seeing how these three families live there lives after the Roswell crash up until now is interesting. You get to see the characters age and come into their own. My only gripe is that the show depends on more on drama/romance than science fiction. I'll probably watch the last five episodes next weekend.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 8, 2002 I like the Sci Fi channel, but nothing about Taken struck me as interesting so i haven't seen any of it. Too bad none of the Sci-Fi channel movies based on stories by Clive Barker haven't recieved a mini series even half as long as Taken.
