Owen Hart mentioned tonight??

Recommended Posts

Guest bob_barron

I didn't catch TNA tonight but the fact that it looked Roddy Piper and Vince Russo used Owen Hart's death to further an angle is pretty sickening if you ask me. I really want to catch TNA and would like to see them put up a good fight v. WWE but doing that stuff like that just disgusts me and if Piper was shooting then he shouldn't be brought back. If it was an angle then fuck Russo and fuck Piper.

They're swearing to god it's 100% shoot.

If they let it slide and never speak of it agian, I'll go ahead and give them the benefit of the doubt.

But if we bring up Owen comments and start playing off that next week or further down the line then I hope they catch holy hell.

I agree JOTW. But if Piper went out there and mentioned Owen just to be a shit disturber they should let him go since TNA doesn't need bad publicity right now

Piper... Well, he speaks his mind. I wouldn't say he's up in the clouds as much as the Ultimate Warrior, but damn...

Anyone see the Hogan/Foley/Piper interview on Larry King Live? Hogan's responses to questions danced around issues when they could cost him his spot on the Big Ladder of Things on the company, but Piper was being extremely pessimistic and painting pictures of doom and gloom. He sounded like Bret Hart talking about how promoters "treat ya like a dog when you're finished, take ya out back and shoot ya."

Did Foley get like two words in that night?

They built up Hogan to be this huge huge huge megastar while Foley just sat there

They talked a good amount about Foley's hardcore career, then Larry asked Hulk about it and Hulk admitted he doesn't exactly put on the same kind of matches Mick does (understatement of the year.)

Piper complained that the wrestlers need a union (although he didn't say how one could be created without everyone getting blackballed.) King asked Hogan about it and Hogan put on an Office Boy answer, saying he wasn't exactly sure if they needed one and while it might be nice it certainly isn't necessary. Foley didn't really have anything to say, probably because the WWF locker room was so harmonious and nothing like WCW's at the time.

Piper also started trying to tell Foley that in a few years none of the fans would remember him or the work he put into his matches. He sounded very sincere but was obviously unaware of Mick's loyal following.

But you know what, Piper was kinda right about Foley. Sure, he still has a following, but I think we might be surprised if he came back.......just like Michaels, he might not get the wild cheers they once did. Its more of the product changing though, not Foleys fault. He was just at his peak of popularity when alot of casual viewers were around, and they are now all but gone.

Piper has never pulled any punches, so it didn't shock me that he mentioned what he did tonight on Russo. It was a way to really make Russo look inferior to him more than anything. He's just doing what he's done all this life (from the way he portrays it in his book, at least) and I actually respect him for that, even if some of the things he says I totally disagree with.

I doubt Owen will be mentioned ever again, at least by Tenay or West. Russo might try to get heat and bring it up again, but I doubt it considering his comments on it during his little speech he did later in the night.

This is why I don't like Piper.

This only reflects badly on TNA and of course Russo.

I'm sure he ment for it to not sound so stupid...but he's Piper.

Russo had it right when he said it was disgusting to use that when Piper was there to pitch his book.

With the public apology, the heat won't be so much on TNA or Russo from this point anyway. What would be ideal would be for the Jarretts to have Piper publicly apologize about the comment on the air next week, but I don't think Piper would even go for that.

The whole segment was surreal and interesting because it was apparently real, and it actually accomplished alot in terms of developing the SE-Oldschool angle. What sucks though is that for all it accomplished, it's going to be remembered only for Pipers stuff about Owen. And also, because of that comment, I'm sure we won't see Piper around anymore either.

Damn straight it reflected bad on TNA. Where the hell were the Jarrets when all this was going on?

They couldn't do anything about it - just like they couldn't do anything about one of their wrestlers running around on camera wearing Nazi symbols or another one of their "superstars" using the word "faggot" on air.

Ball-less, spineless cunts - the least they could do is have the fucking guts to accept responsibility for their own fucking show.

Sure, they could. They could cut Piper's mic from the control booth before he went from shocking to offending. It's not like he slipped in an F-Bomb before anyone noticed. He raged on until he went overboard.

It sounds like they instead decided just to send out some wrestlers in case things went physical and just keep rolling. I hate to assume the worst in people, but it's possible they chose to keep rolling because they knew it would create controversey. Or, they could have been backstage and not known what was going on. Who knows?

Actually, I didn't. But played off your venting as an oppertunity to vent on my own.

Piper is actually related to the Hart's somehow. I think Owen was his cousin.

Still, that is Bullshit to even mention that on LIVE TV.

If that's his real thoughts, then put it in his stupid book, or say it on a stupid AOL Interview or something. (Which I think he did say the same thing about Vince McMahon killing Owen Hart on his Howard Stern Appearance)

But, you don't go out in front of a live crowd and talk that Crap on TV. Even Bret on his most pissed off Day didn't do anything like that.

I don't think they're legit related- I just think Bret and Piper are really close

Yup they actually are related by some distant way, he mentioned it in the book.

And he DID vent about all this with Owen in the book too already, just FYI.

About cutting off his mic or whatever, this is how I look at it. Going into it, there was an agreement they would let Piper say whatever he wanted to say. So they, for better or worse, had to let him say what he said. And to boot, I don't really think anyone in upper management wants to save Russo's ass since everything that went down since Panda came into the fold. So they let Piper say what he wanted.

I don't get how the company is "ball-less, spineless cunts" because of 3 people making some wrong on-air decisions that were obviously not approved. What was done was done, and apologies were made. What the fuck else can they do? This company doesn't have the managerial structure that WWE has, so fucking what?

Did anyone else catch Piper say something to the effect of "you wanted a shoot Russo, I'm gonna shoot"

Who agreed that Piper could appear with a live mic ?

Who agreed that Piper could say whatever he wanted ?

The very least the Jarretts could do, is to stand up and admit that they fucked up by giving Piper a live mic to spout whatever bullshit was swirling around that half-senile old brain of his.

Nazi shirts...Homophobic language...derogatory comments about the mentally handicapped...a KKK lookalike beating up a black wrestler...and now this.

The Jarrett's didn't fuck up by giving Piper a mic and letting him speak his mind. To me the interview came off excellant, although Owen's name shouldn't have been mentioned. Still I'm not going to whine about Piper mentioning Owen because if you actually listen to what he was saying instead of jumping to stupid conclusions you would have heard Piper say that "someone like Russo was responsible for Owen's death." And then he asked Russo if he thought he was responsible for the death of Owen Hart. I didn't take offence to anything that was said because I believe Piper was speaking for the heart.

Did you watch the same show I watched?

"For two years Russo wrote all kinds of things for the WWF. I have this question: Hey Russo, did your write in my cousin Owen's death? Do you write home? Did you ask about his family? He's dead! He was MY COUSIN! HE'S DEAD! WHY? Because someone like you! Who knows nothing about the technicalities! Put someone 90 feet up! Why? There's no consequences to pay for you."

You could try and say that "someone like you" didn't mean Russo, but I have no doubt in my mind that "some 90 feet up" obviously means Owen, so it's not a stretch to presume it's Russo.

Actually I very much doubt "someone like you" was a reference to Russo. More likely, Piper had no idea who actually booked the stunt, but he assumed that Russo might have had something to do with it; and that even if he didn't, it was probably booked by someone who went by Russo's philosophy of "shock TV".

I think that that particular part of the rant was just a rant against the "shock TV" type booking that Piper apparently hates--though of course, ironically, all that "shoot" stuff was supposed to be shock TV.

Yeah I did watch that show. I also didn't sit and transcibe it either. Sorry for getting Piper's comments wrong though.

The comments came off to me as Piper saying that only WRESTLING BOOKERS should book. A WRESTLING BOOKER wouldn't book a stunt like that, that's pure SE.

I don;t get why this is still being blamed on Russo.

Piper said it was his own comment. Tna said it was Piper's comment.

But some people refuse to blame anyone but Russo.

I'm all for crucifying the guy...but let's do it over the right things.

HE'S ALLIGNED HIS CHARACTER WITH THE HARRIS TWINS AND B.G. JAMES!!!!!!

Considering the direction the show took this week, can we blame anyone but Russo? Is he really JUST TALENT, and the senior Jarrett went nuts and just started booking exactly like Russo would if he had free reign?

Russo did his angle. Which I thought had a genius bit by degrading the crowd's favorite "Athena" to get heel heat.

The main issue everywhere has been Piper's comments.

The X match got 20 minutes. That doesn't sound like Russo either.

I thought the Athena bit was good too but went a little overboard with Russo berading her. She didn't deserve to be called a bitch and a wench time and time again, but what better way to get heat with the TNA crowd than beat up Athena.
