Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 6, 2002 I look at my Braves 'Armed Forces' poster with a bit of sadness tonight as Tom Glavine signed with the Mets. I never really liked Glavine too much due to his association with the Players Association and cause I always was a Maddux fan. Still, he pitched the greatest game in Braves history with a one-hitter over Cleveland so I will miss him a bit and the fan in me is dissapointed that he signed with the arch-rival Mets. Despite him blowing both games this year, I will miss Glavine a bit. Cya Tom- and thanks for Game 6 of the 95 World Series.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted December 6, 2002 I don't see how a true Braves fan COULDN'T miss Glavine, even if you aren't a true fan of his. He has been a part of the team, a vital part, for many years, and it is sad to see him go. I have loved the guy since day one, but this is life. Just like all the others depart, he does as well. I really believe that Atlanta will enter a rebuilding phrase pretty soon, and this could be the begining. I am shocked to see him go to the Mets though, I would have bet anything on him going to Philly, seriously. I can't wait untill Philly comes to town and he pitches opposite Madux, I can just imagine the fans now, and that game!
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 6, 2002 Mets v. Braves Glavine v. Maddux- oh how that would fucking rule. I'm gonna miss him a lot even though I wish I didn't leave having lost both games he started in the division series. I wish he hadn't gone to the Mets cause I can't cheer for him. I just can't
Guest El Gigante Killa Report post Posted December 6, 2002 That wasn't the best game, the Braves had a combined no-hitter in the early 90's. As a Braves fan, it sucks seeing Glavine go. It just seemed like he'd be with the Braves forever... it will be strange not seeing him every 5th day.
Guest thetrendsetter Report post Posted December 6, 2002 Trendsetter looks at the prospect of his beloved braves going 81-81... *Cries* Hey... Metal Maniac, come ere a sec...

I just can't My days cheering for him are over, lol. Had he gone to the Phillies though, I could find it in my heart to go for him. I'm not all THAT upset though, but I will miss him. I was more upset when Dave Justice departed for some reason. Then we have the duo of Sid Bream and Fracisco Cabrera (sp?). I'm sure you can figure out why I was saddened at the last two, lol. It will be interesting to see the Braves rotation now however. I mean, look at how it's already changed. We used to have Smoltz, Madux, and Glavine... ...now the only one left in starting is Madux, it's just werid. I can't wait to see what additions Atlanta makes, but whatever it is they best as hell do a good job of it. Every year they are short at basicly ONE posistion, and I'm getting sick of it. They always miss that ONE vital part of the team, have it be the bat, the bench, bullpen, or whatever. I really hope they can add someone who can complete this team, because if they don't do SOMETHING worthy this year, then I assure you that we'll be entering some somewhat rough times once again, and God help us if it lasts like pre-91. Guest Downhome Report post Posted December 6, 2002 Just for the record, I was pissed as hell when Mr. Otis Nixon left, I was a HUGE Nixon fan baby!
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 6, 2002 Eh- I can't cheer for him if he went to the Phils either since I'm still bitter over 93. They replaced him with Hampton and hopefully the same will happen to him that happened to Darryl Kile. (No not that, the pitching well part) I would LOVE for them to resign Crime Dog. Pay him anything he wants it will take the pain of the 98 trade away. I never got into Justice but the fact that Kenny Lofton still whines about his year in Hotlanta pisses me off to this day. Trendsetter- the NL East is still relatively weak so I think they could win again this year but the rebuilding process is def on.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted December 6, 2002 If I were a Braves fan, I would have been running Nixon out of town as he basically handed the final out of the '92 World Series to the Blue Jays (not that I'm complaining, or anything). I mean, what the fuck was he bunting for?
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 6, 2002 Nixon was cool- they brought him back a couple years ago but just used him as a pinch runner cause he sucked. I think he's still a part of the organization in some regard and is now clean and sober
Guest Downhome Report post Posted December 6, 2002 Crime Dog should return, Atlanta is his TRUE home damnit! I was pissed at Nixon also, and will never understand it. I just thought he was cool looking I guess, lol. I don't care if they win the damn Division again, if they can't at least get to the WS then I will not be pleased. I was also excited as hell when Pendleton became the batting coach, I always loved him also.
Guest RobJohnstone Report post Posted December 6, 2002 Go Mets. Now let's trade burnitz and cedeno and we will be on our way --Rob
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 6, 2002 DH- I kinda think their done in terms of making it to WS but I wouldn't mind seeing one last run. I like Pendelton too- I'm pretty much like almost all of them. Anyone know what the deal with Maddux is? We getting him back
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted December 6, 2002 I'm not all THAT upset though, but I will miss him. I was more upset when Dave Justice departed for some reason. It must have been something about Justice back then...oh, wait. Maybe it was the 30 HR - 100 RBI totals that Justice was cranking out around then, as opposed to the 1000% Bad Attitude that Kenny Lofton's worthless ass brought to the table. As far as Glavine goes, almost all of my good will for him totally evaporated once he became one of the head guys negotiating for the players this year. It's going to be strange seeing him in a different uniform, but I don't think the Mets really got the No. 1 starter they think that they got with him. Guest geniusMoment Report post Posted December 6, 2002 Peter Gammons is reporting Maddux wants to go out west to be closer to his family. He also has Boras as an agent and wants a 4-5 contract making as much or more than Glavine. The only problem is the teams in the west can't afford him, Dodgers are trying to cut payroll, same with Dbacks, same with rockies, same with San Diego and San Fran can't add on that much salary. In the american league you can cross off oakland, texas, and angels. Only team to possibly sign him is seattle, only if Moyer leaves
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 6, 2002 MIB- I here ya. I fucking hate Kenny Lofton. I don't want to violate board rules so I'm not gonna say what I wish for him but yea- The fucker complains about his year in Hotlanta and how everyone was mean to him wa wa wa SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY. WE GAVE UP THREE FUCKING GREAT PLAYERS FOR YOUR BROKEN DOWN FUCKED UP ASS AND YOU COME HERE AND PLAY LIKE YOU HAVE 19 BUGS UP YOUR ASS COMPLETELY HURTING THE TEAM AND THEN YOU BOLT BACK TO THE TEAM WHO TRADED YOU TO US. FUCK YOU. Sorry about that. So it looks like Maddux may come back thank God. I really can't picture a Braves team without him. It'll be interesting to see Glavine in that third year. I think it will truly determine whether the Braves made the right move
Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted December 6, 2002 I guess this marks the begining of the end of the Braves dynasty. Too bad they only have ONE World Series to show for it. Oh Steve Avery, where are you?
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted December 6, 2002 That's just great. The Mets overpaid for Glavine. The Phillies have already overpaid for Thome, and David Bell, and the Cubs overpaid Mike Remlinger. Way to set the market for the rest of the league.
