Will the WWE just ban submissions already...

To me the submissions situation in the WWE, is probobaly hurting the realism the most right now. There is no way as a smark(or mark for that matter) that you can honestly believe ANYONE should be able to "escape the pain" of submission holds. It is just too ridiculous. Soooooo, instead of making a mochary of Angle, Benoit, Guererro etc....why not just erradicate them all together, because that would probobaly hurt less than what they are doing right now.

..or they could just try to establish them better. I mean, Hogan tapped out for the first time in his career to Angle's Ankle Lock. That should've been played up more. Make it seem like a devistating move.

Eddie's move sucks, so I could care less about that.

Benoit has been getting slopping locking the arm.. so it doesn't look painful.

I do agree that submission finishers should be played up more, and should actually, you know, END MATCHES.

Remember when Bret beat EVERYONE with the Sharpshooter? Not to mention the other awesome old school submission finishers, like Flair's Figure 4 and the Million Dollar Dream.

A submission loss wouldn't hurt someone as much as constantly locking on the hold and never getting anywhere with it.

Angle should at least learn to make the ankle lock look convincing and hard to escape before they do him the courtesy of making it a "no escape" move. The thing with moves like the Sharpshooter was once they were locked in, there was basically no escaping. All the counters for Angle's version of the ankle lock are convincing and easy to pull off given the stupid vertical base he uses while applying the move. If he kept it on the ground like Shamrock and maybe applied some force over the back or held the other leg down with his knee or something, it would look much more believable as a hard to escape hold.

You know, I was thinking about this the other day. It could be a storyline or something to give to a struggling wrestler, or to help establish someone else.

Take a wrestler whom is in need of a character make over. At least in the moves department. Then, have someone reverse their finisher and beat them cleanly because of it. Make it out to be a big deal. Like he "discovered" the counter for the move. Then, everyone else can counter the move the same way, thus making the move obsolete. The wrestler whom needs a makeover would be forced to bring in a new move to finish off his opponents with.

If it happens to be a submission move, so be it.

He's given up in submissions plenty of times in WCW. It may have been the first time he's tapped in the WWF.

EDIT: Er, WWE. I don't post too often in this section any more, look in the other direction and try not to notice. Hee.

While that is true, it's not the same thing. Kurt Angle is the first person to ever make HULK Hogn tap out or give up, the face version of Hogan. In WCW he was always HOLLYWOOD, the mega heel when he would submit. So yeah, it is still a HUGE deal that Kurt did what he did.

while your at it why not just elimate the excitement of near falls also. And have all matches end with the kick to the stomach and finisher.

An ankle lock is a far more believable finisher then a goddamn "Bubba Bomb"...I am liking the fact that a babyface will actually tap these days, I thought I'd never see it.

Finishing moves are just too set up now...you can see them coming a mile away.

NoCal's favorite wrestler must be Mr. Saito. Some other wrestlers should slap submissions as well (no bear hugs--ugh!) The funkier the better.

What? The El Paso Lasso is a great submission move. He just gotta use it more.

Just like the Trailer Hitch and Noble.

chokes are illegal :)

want something simple, how about a Keylock wrist lock or cross armbar.

Submissions can be over but it relies on the opponent selling it like death to get it over, wheras with an impact move it doesn't matter so much

I've always been a mark for good submission moves mind and I'm a great believer that top workers should have an impact finisher and a submission finisher

bring back the Von Erich CLAW

the best place for actually submissions that work and are accepted is Lucha Libre, the second it is positioned 95% of the time it ends the Caida.

Ok first off, I personally love submissions, but I think everyone thinks I want them gone. No, I want the WWE to make them more lethal and more realistic, as to where if Angle gets the Anklelock on you, you are TAPPING, no questions asked, and then maybe once a year or so, someone can escape. If they have to come with more creative ways to lock on submissions than so be it, but I think it is a bunch of bullshit the way they play out submissions right now, and it is only hurting your own workers when the crowd is sitting on their hands during submissions because they know every wrestler is gonna escape it. So WWE either needs to make submissions into submissions, or just stop having wrestlers use them.(not to mention the no-selling following 90% of the finishers)

Yeah, chokes are illegal, but hey, techinically the sleeper hold is a choke (which could be very effective if they treated it like a simple rear naked choke a la Japan).

One thing great about moves like the gulliotine, armbar (cross armbreaker), triangle choke, etc. is that they can be slapped on from numerous situations, especially as counters from other moves (hey, maybe people will simply start countering Edge's weak Spear with a gulliotine, so he'll have to stop using the damned move).

If somebody countered the Edge Spear with a Fujiwara Armbar and made him submit I would mark out big time.
