Guest RenegadeX28 Report post Posted December 7, 2002 Hopefully, I am getting a new DVD player for Xmas. I was wondering, what TV connections does it use............A/V, or S-Video?
Guest razazteca Report post Posted December 7, 2002 both but the S-Video is for the expensive ones while the cheap Walmart special ones would use the red, yellow, white A/V. it really depends on the brands but the A/V is the standard, some come with an option for both. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 7, 2002 All DVD players come with A/V and it's just like hooking up a VCR if you aren't running it into a 5.1 setup. Quite a few now have an S video output, but it's useless without a TV or 5.1 Reciever that has a S Video Input.
Guest crandamaniac Report post Posted December 8, 2002 Also, don't hook-up your DVD player to a VCR. Most of them have security devices that will mess up your DVD if you do that
Guest RenegadeX28 Report post Posted December 8, 2002 Yep, I got the player already. I didn't know about that thing with the VCR. Thanks for telling me crandamaniac. Now, to get some DVDs........
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted December 8, 2002 I use S-Video, because it's the best connection my TV has. New TV's have component output, which is even better. If your TV has S-Video, use it, it gives a much crisper picture than the AV plugs.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted December 8, 2002 Macrovision has security features on everything fear the scramble & discoloration if you try to copy DVD to tape.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted December 8, 2002 I use both actually. I use S-Video to go directly into my TV. Then I have the A/V cables hooked to the VCR. There's a HUGE difference between the level of quality of those two cords. This way I can copy DVDs to tape through the lower quality A/V cords but watch it at the same time through the S-Video cords. It's weird, watching it through the A/V/VCR hookup looks like crap but watching the DVDs that I have copied to tape already, look perfect. Weird. Mine also has Component output but I've never tried it.
