Guest tombstone Report post Posted March 6, 2002 Wrestlemania X – 8 - WWF European Title Diamond Dallas Page © vs. Christian DDP offers Christian a shot at his title to assess his motivation. Brawl as DDP coaches Christian on ring style and ‘keeping your head up’ caught on the mikes. Christian gets increasingly incensed and starts really going for DDP, with some faster offence and DDP starts looking worried and has to legitimately defend his title. DDP hits the Diamond Cutter out of nowhere as Christian racks on the Unprettier, but Christian rolls out, collects the title belt to cream DDP (mind the teeth) for the DQ at around the 10 minute mark. ** DDP sells it big as Christian celebrates in front of his home - town crowd. - WWF Hardcore Title Goldust © vs. Tazz Mercy - killing. Trash can battle to start with Tazz getting some good suplex action until Dusty nails him with a drop - kick into a trashcan. Goldust lingers too long on the Curtain Call and the Tazzmission finishes at 3:45 ** - Test vs. Maven Just because they both, needed a match. Test DESTROYS Maven, but is jaw - broken by Nidia, setting up the EYEBROW MISSILE DROPKICK. Test sells for a long two but powers back to the Big Boot, Diving power - bomb and diving elbow massive overkill pin at 3:46. ** - WWF Intercontinental Title William Regal © vs. Rob Van Dam RVD gets stuck right in to Regal who bails to the outside. RVD follows only to be tripped and Regal works on his neck with the cross – face and punches. RVD powers out, and DDT’s Regal before rolling back in. Regal follows and it’s a bit of punch kick before Regal locks up the abdominal stretch. RVD sells like a man but edges closer to the ropes and uses the leverage to small package Regal for 2. Regal bails and produces the BRASS KNUCKS OF ENGLISH DEATH! RVD planchas him over the top rope but Regal ducks and RVD is send HARD into the barrier. Regal rolls him back into the ring and measures him for the punch. RVD ducks and hits the spinning kick followed by a Rolling Thunder for another two. RVD rolls out to collect a chair but the referee stops him, and as RVD argues Regal nails the knuckle punch and Tiger Drivers RVD onto the chair. RIP RVD. But no, the referee stalls Regal asking about the knuckles (discarded) and Regal turns into an RVD drop - kick that bumps the ref. RVD is selling the injured side (abdominal stretch and knuckle punch) as he lays into Regal who sweeps him and locks up the Regal Stretch for AGES. Regal then goes to claim the chair leading to the Van Daminator. RVD however places Regal in the turnbuckle with the chair across his face and after having trouble climbing the turnbuckle nails him with the Van Terminator from DIAGONALLY across the ring (to differentiate from Shane’s effort at WMX7). Regal is dead and RVD pins him easy for the IC title at 15:00 *** Better than expected. - Booker T vs. Edge Punch kick to start then running the ropes with Edge dodging Booker’s kicks until at the fourth time of asking an axe kick sends him down. Booker pins for 2 then stomps the hell out of Edge. Eventually Edge rallies, winning a rope run with a diving spinning kick. He climbs the turnbuckle and nails Booker with a diving spear. He covers for two but Booker powers out and pummels him into the turnbuckle and hits a superplex that leaves Edge DEAD. Booker hits the most electrifying move previously done in WCW and sets Edge up for the Axe Kick. However, Edge hits the edgecution and locks up his sharpshooter variation for the submission win in 12:00 *** Nice - WWF Light – Heavyweight & Cruiser-weight Titles Unification Match X – Pac © vs. Tajiri © X – Pac plays the cocky fool to Tajiri’s humble ladies man. Finish is quick and not at all what these two could have put on. Tajiri blocks the X – factor when Torrie holds him to the ropes and a swift kick – to – the – head and the unified titles (to be called Cruiser - weight as Tajiri won) at 4:34 * - Lance Storm vs. The Hurricane Lots of work & reversals in a reasonably short time here. Nice showcase but, nothing more. Storm goes over with the half Boston crab from reversing the Eye of the Hurricane in 4:34. ** - WWF Tag Team Titles Four Corner Elimination Match Billy & Chuck © vs. APA vs. Dudley Boys vs. Hardy Boys W/ Stacy w/ Lita APA rage into the champions as the Hardys and the Dudleys brawl around the outside. However Bradshaw is prey to the Fame – Asser at 3:12 and the Hardys and Dudleys spill into the ring. Billy & Chuck go next as a Jungle Kick to Bubba is dodged and the Bubba Bomb nails Chuck in 8:34. The psychology is shifting as Matt & Jeff play heel, going more for mat wrestling than the spot - fest the Skydome fans are after. Matt slaps Stacy tom draw Bubba attention away from the 3D attempt on Jeff who manages to DDT D’Von and follow up with the split leg drop pin for the titles at 12:45. The Hardys beat on the Dudleys after the match to cement their little heel turn. - Kane vs. Kurt Angle Brutal match with Kane belly to belly suplexed onto the Spanish Announce table and Angle chokeslammed through the same. In the end Angle has the ankle lock wrapped up on Kane (Angle in full Olympic mode with crimson mask etc.) Kane hits the enziguri and is setting Angle up for a power – bomb when Vince appears and pulls his feet out from under him. Angle Slam and Ankle Lock follow with Kane tapping but Angle will not relinquish the hold at 15:12 *** Vince stops the referees from separating the pair until Angle is satisfied. - Scott Hall vs. Stone Cold W/ Kevin Nash BRAWL for like ten minutes until they enter the ring directly to a Six Pack Stunner from Hall. However he is unsatisfied and calls Nash down to ringside. The pair stomp a mud - hole into Austin who amazingly rallies with a Stunner to Nash and a Thesz Press to Hall followed by the FU elbow and a pin attempt broken up by Nash. Nash is badgered from the ring, by Mike Chioda as Austin and Hall go punch for punch into the turnbuckle. Austin hits a suicideplex for 2 and is setting Hall up for the Stunner when Nash barrels in, hits the Big Boot and the Jacknife for the DQ at 7:12 (plus the ten minute brawl into the ring). Hall recovers and egged on by Nash, hits Austin with the Razor’s Edge to leave the rattlesnake dead as in bury him and have a wake DEAD. *** ½ surprisingly good, the interference was necessary and for a brawl it did what it was intended to. - Old School Match (No DQ) Ric Flair vs. The Undertaker Flair tries but the Taker decimates him. Eventually however Flair bashes Taker with a chair and locks up the figure four to a HUGE crowd response. Taker fights it, but cannot get out and is fading when Vince runs down. Flair breaks the hold as Vince enters the ring and hits Flair with the MCMAHON DIVING CHAIRSHOT OF DOOMTM. Vince bails as the Taker gets to his feet and it’s all so predictable as the rising Flair meets the chokeslam onto the chair for the Darkness Pin’s return at 10:00 ** Better than expected and kept reasonably short. - Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs. the Rock Rock gets a huge response from the Toronto crowd, and Hulk takes FOREVER coming down the ramp, posing etc. The go punchy for a while and run the ropes where Rock hits a Spine - buster. He clutches his (injured) ribs before trying to lock up the sharpshooter. Hogan fights out and body presses the wheezing Rock out of the ring. Rock staggers about at ringside while Hogan looks under the ring and claims the nWo chair! He nails Rock hard with the chair. A few times then rolls him back into the ring. Hogan goes for the pin, but Rock kicks out. Hogan picks Rock up and slams him and poses for the crowd. The pin is again kicked out of and Hogan starts working on Rocks ribs before signalling the leg drop to the crowd. He whips Rock to the ropes, but Rock reverses and hits a Samoan Drop to his own cost. Both men are down and Rock rolls out of the ring, and into an attack from Nash & Hall. A beat down followed by a vicious baseball bat shot to Rock’s ribs and he is rolled back in. Hogan tells the others that he can deal with this now and sends them backstage. He waits for Rock to rise, then hits the Big Boot and popses before bouncing off the ropes to hit the Leg Drop on, Nobody. Rock had rolled out of the way and popped up to nail the dazed Hogan with the Rock Bottom for the win at 15:43 *** Good psychology and a necessary win for the Rock. Of course the celebration is interrupted by a full scale now beat down with the Leg Drop being experienced after some real baseball action on the movie star. - Undisputed WWF Title Chris Jericho © vs. Triple H W/ Stephanie McMahon Both men are met with HUGE response. Stare down to start with Jericho slapping Hunter to start the festivities. Hunter hulks up and BATTERS Jericho into a corner. Jericho slips out and delivers a German suplex to Hunter before going to work on his back that he had dropped a Lionsault to on Smackdown! Jericho attempts to rack on the Walls of Jericho but HHH powers out and they run the ropes until HHH hits the face - buster. Hunter pummels Jericho into the corner and kicks the living shit out of him until Jericho bails. HHH follows and they wander around the Skydome for a while with the highlight being the bump of the night. When Jericho hits HHH with a springboard dropkick from a balcony that sends Hunter plunging fifty feet (ten feet) onto the sound desk (complete with feedback whine over the PA, nice!) Jericho gets down as Hunter sells a stretcher job and Jericho borrows the Kurt Angle Flight Case to get HHH back to the ring. Jericho’s pin attempt of course in up at 2. The Living Legend snaps and rolls out to get the ring bell. Hunter dodges the blow and piledrivers Jericho for 2. HHH is well in charge now and sets up the Pedigree when Stephanie appears on the ring apron. HHH goes nose to nose with Stephanie then turns his back. Stephanie grabs him by the HAIR and he turns and is about to strike her when Jericho hits the low blow. The roll up gets two and they fight back to their feet. Jericho goes for the Breakdown but HHH reverses and Stephanie is bumped from the apron. HHH is overly concerned giving time for Jericho to hit the Breakdown onto the ring bell to take the win at 22:34 *** Not as good as they have been but it’ll do.
