C.S.I. comic coming out in January..

Recommended Posts

Guest MarvinisaLunatic

I was walking around the mall today (for over 6 freaking hours..) and I passed the comic store and they had a huge poster with CSI on it. Im not into comics that much, but I stopped and looked at the poster and it said that a CSI comic will be out in January, although when I asked the person out the counter they had no info on it.

Anyone know anything about it?

This is all I could find on it through Google:

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - IDW is a new name in The Fan Man's Ole Crystal Ball, but these guys are making waves with the recent 30 Days Of Night and now one of television's hottest shows, CSI. This five issue miniseries is written by the writer and creator of The Road To Perdition, Max Allan Collins. If you like the show, you should like CSI the comic book! This issue features a serial killer on the loose in Las Vegas. This killer is reenacting the crimes of Jack The Ripper! Complicating matters more, there just happens to be a Jack The Ripper convention in town, meaning there are hundreds of possible suspects!

Hmm..

Sounds good. Maybe if it's successful they'll try full time.

Please tell me there is no such thing as a Jack the Ripper convention.

Here's another blurb about it:

CSIcvr.jpg

The first issue of IDW Publishing's CSI: Crime Scene Investigation mini-series premieres in January. The show on which it's based continues its cultural dominance as television's number-one rated show, averaging over 30 million viewers each week.

The CSI: Crime Scene Investigation mini-series will be written by Max Allan Collins, author of the graphic novel that gave birth to the motion picture Road to Perdition. Artist Gabriel Rodríguez will bring a realistic look to the series, capturing the excitement of Las Vegas and the intense attitude of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Mimicking the style of the show, Ashley Wood will bring his unique art sensibility to the flashback and forensic sequences of the story.

TV Guide will help kick off the release of the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation mini-series with an exclusive 3-page, self-contained story that will see print in January. Max Allan Collins will write the story, with art provided by Ashley Wood.

The CSI: Crime Scene Investigation mini-series announcement has already garnered a storm of national media attention, appearing in USA Today, Daily Variety, and dozens of newspapers around the country. The comic has also been featured on E! Entertainment Television and CNN.

"Here at IDW Publishing we are very happy to be working on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The folks at CBS have been powerful partners helping us make sure that everyone knows about this book. The CSI: Crime Scene Investigation mini-series will be available at comic book stores nationwide. The quickest way to find a copy is to call the free Comic Shop Locator Service at: 1-888-266-4226," said Beau Smith, VP Of Sales and Marketing for IDW Publishing.

Each issue will ship with two covers: a regular edition painted by Ashley Wood and a "secret rare" photo cover that will showcase one actor per issue. IDW Publishing has not announced the number of "secret rare" covers they will produce but the "secret rare" covers will be distributed randomly throughout the entire print run. The first issue also features an exclusive interview with William Petersen discussing his role as Gil Grissom.

C.S.I. #1 (of 5) will be published by IDW Publishing in January 2003. It's 32 full-color pages and retails for $3.99.

An Alias comic book is also coming out this winter. "Alias: Agent Bristo" is going to be written by the show's creator J.J. Abrams and the artists for the series have yet to be determined. Names like Rob Liesfeld, Andy Park and Sean Chen have popped up to take on the duties.

Personally, I didn't like Alias when I watched this season's premiere episode and I'm not sure if Abrams will translate well into the comic book medium. We'll wait and see.

Liefeld - does anyone give a crap anymore?

Park - I guess since he drew Tomb Raider, he could draw a chick with big boobs

Chen - probably the best choice for the type of book that Alias should be.

A CSI comic book? That sounds like it could be worth picking up since the show isn't too bad

Liesfeld unfortunately does still earn interest from fans and his latest Youngblood project is a testament to that. It is not a lot of people but it is just enough for Rob to come out of hiding.

Chen is the best artist to go with on the Alias title.

This has a big chance of sucking, but that's mostly a hunch. Comic books based on non-comics properties usually aren't a great thing. Ashley Wood is so not right for a CSI book anyway. The one blurb I read also sounded a little cheesy.

And wasn't the Road to Perdition graphic novel medicore? I'm sure I heard somewhere that they used what the story was about in the movie, but they had a lot of work to do on the execution.

And there likely is a Jack the Ripper convention. There are serial killer conventions, so why not a couple offshoots?
