Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 10, 2002 Okay so I know about 6 people watched 'Watching Ellie' and of those 6 I was probably the only one who thought the show kicked mondo ass. Well I read in the latest EW that according to Julia Louis Dreyfuss: The show will be filmed in front of a studio audience It won't be done in real time 4 Cameras, not one THE SHOW IS GONNA SUCK DICK! Part of what I loved about Watching Ellie was the pace of the show. Some episodes like one act would go longer then ten minutes and it would just be really fun tv to watch cause you never knew when they would go to break. Anywho I just needed to vent about the bastardizing that is Watching Ellie. New Watching Ellie-
Guest starvenger Report post Posted December 10, 2002 Wait... Watching Ellie wasn't cancelled?
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted December 10, 2002 Man, I thought that show was buried and the grave pissed on. If you're going to change the gimmick of the show, you might as well just give her a completely different show all together to flop in.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted December 10, 2002 Wait... Watching Ellie wasn't cancelled? That's what I thought too. I also thought Andy Richter was cancelled but somebody mentioned that it was still on. I hope Streethawk is really cancelled and I haven't just been missing it all these years. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 10, 2002 NBC gave it a midseason reneweal. It's ratings weren't that bad- it did better then Alias
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted December 10, 2002 NBC gave it a midseason reneweal. It's ratings weren't that bad- it did better then Alias Yeah, but at least Alias had Jennifer Garner in tight fitting leather clothes. Watching Ellie had nothing. Guest Choken One Report post Posted December 10, 2002 So it's the same Show, same cast...Different what? That would be like turning 24 into a Family Drama in the mountains...using the same cast and characters. Why give it the stigma of being a flopped midseason replacement...Find a new show for her to tank....Why give a show the honor of being tanked twice from the same network? Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 10, 2002 Watching Ellie had humour and was different then any other show. I thought Ellie looked pretty hot on the show
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted December 10, 2002 NBC gave it a midseason reneweal. It's ratings weren't that bad- it did better then Alias It probably has to do with a lot more than just ratings. TV seems less worried with ratings these days than with demographics, target audiences, shares, blah blah blah. A bunch of stupid crap. If they went by strictly ratings there'd be still be a lot of good shows on. I wouldn't be surpised if Ellie costs more than Alias too. Even though Alias is the big action thing it kinda came out of nowhere to become a hit so I'm sure they didn't have to spend a huge amount of money on it. Where as Ellie was supposedly going to be a guaranteed hit, one of the biggest shows, it was the big follow up to Seinfeld and I'm sure they paid a good penny to get it. That's just speculation of course.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted December 10, 2002 I'm going to have to start watching it as I have always loved Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Seinfeld and I missed the chance to see her new show.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 10, 2002 Well with the new format Dreamer- I don't think it'll be as good
Guest The Electrifyer Report post Posted December 10, 2002 I'm going to have to start watching it as I have always loved Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Seinfeld and I missed the chance to see her new show. THats what I thought about the show Michael Richards and Jason Alexander had, I thought that since I liked them on Seinfeld, I must like them on the new show. But when I watched the shows, I soon realised it wasn't Michael Richards and Jason Alexander that I wanted to see, it was the George Costanza and Kramer characters that I wanted to see. Thats why I didn't even other watching Watching Ellie... that and the promos sucked for it.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 10, 2002 The Michael Richards show was flat out awful. NBC rejected the originl pilot where the show was a lot darker and was one camera with no laugh track. They basically made them change it to "Kramer is a detective"
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted December 10, 2002 Richards and Alexander haven't exactly been too successful or even funny at all outside of the Seinfeld set.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted December 10, 2002 I always liked Problem Child. Alexander is more of a stage actor
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Man, I thought this show was cancelled ages ago. Anyway, the new format will certainly ruin any unique charm the show had.
