The history of the Gang Warz

Many people say that the WWF has done a lot of things bad. The Invasion angle, the return of the nWo, Bob Backlund as a heel. However nothing comes even close to the crap known as the Gang Warz. The Gang Warz went from 1996-early 1998. and it sucked the whole way thorugh.

The Gang Warz started innocently enough. King of the Ring 1996. Ahmed Johnson killed Goldust for the Intercontinental title. Ahmed was the first ever Black man to hold the IC title. Ahmed was crazy over with the fans for his strength and charisma. But it wouldn't last.

In late July/Early August of 1996 Ahmed was defending his IC title on WWF Monday Night RAW when Ron Simmons looking like something out of Gladiator attacked him and injured his kidney. Simmons was now to be known as Farooq Asad, with his manager Sunny. With Ahmed injured the IC was held up and Farooq was in the tournament for the new champion. The finals were Marc Mero VS Farooq and Mero won. Sunny and Farooq then parted ways.

A few weeks after Sunny and Farooq split Ahemd returned and beat the living shit out of Farooq. Farooq did't stop though and formed The Nation of Domination. NOD was comprised of it's leader Farooq, Crush, PG-13, D Lo Brown, and various suits. Royal Rumble 1997 came around and Ahmed and Farooq went at it with the result being Farooq getting himself DQ'd. Later on in January, Savio Vega teamed up with Ahmed to face Farooq and Crush. Savio turned on him and joined the NOD. Ahmed then turned to the Road Warriors for help and defeated the NOD at WM 13.

Ahmed and Farooq then went at it in a series of one on ones that saw Ahmed lose every time. These losses led up to Farooq getting a shot at the WWF World title at King of the Ring. Farooq lost and after the match The Undertaker (then champion) continued to assault Farrooq untill Ahmed stopped it. This led to Farooq firing most of the nation for their failure to help him win the title. Farooq fired Savio, Crush, PG-13 and all of his suits leaving only D Lo Brown.

2 weeks later on RAW Farooq promised to make the NOD "Stronger and Blacker) rumors went flying that the new members would be guys such as Junkyard dog, Bad New Brown, Butch Reed, and others. The main event was Undertaker and Ahmed VS Farooq and a mystery man. Farooq's partner was the returning Kama Mustafa. The match ended shockingly with Kama getting a pin on the Undertaker. Ahmed helped up his partner and then Dropped him! Ahmed had joined the NOD!

While Farooq had reformed the NOD Savio and Crush were busy themselves. Crush had recruited Brian Lee (Chainz) and The Harris brothers (Skull and 8-Ball) to form his own Gang, the Deciples of Apocolypse, Savio got his old friends Miguel Perez, Jesus Castillo, and Jose Estrada to form Los Boricuas. Also at that time a group known as The Truth Commission hit the WWF. Sniper, Recon, Interrigator, and Manged by Commandant. The Gang wars were about to erupt.

SummerSlam came around and DOA challenged Boricuas n an 8 man tag. NOD came out to watch and Ahmed attacked Chainz on the floor causing DOA to lose. This led to a big 12 man brawl. The next night Ahmed defeated Chainz and was thanked by the NOD in the form of being booted out of the NOD. Later on the NOD would add Rocky Miavia to their stable. Ahmed got his own little gang in the form of Ken Shamrock and his old partners the Road Warriors.

Survivor Series 1997 had an 8 man tag of the NOD VS Ahmed and friends. Ken Shamrock was the sole survivor of the match making Rocky submit. Royal Rumble of 1998 featured Rocky VS Shamrock for his IC title. Also on Survivor Series DOA lost to the Truth Commission. Soon after the loss Crush went to WCW.

On RAW 6 days prior to Royal Rumble Mark Henry and Ken Shamrock teamed up to face Rocky and D Lo when Mark Henry joined the Nation attacking Shamrock. Rocky kept his IC title at the Rumble. Soon after that. The Road Warriors took a leave of absense for a while and Ahmed and Shamrock hooked up with DOA to combat the NOD's 5 members. The Boricuas were nowhere to be seen anymore, The Truth Commission had disapeared as well. No Way Out of Texas in February had a 10 man tag known as "The War of Atrition" NOD VS Ahmed, Shamrock, and DOA. NOD lost. Ahmed left the WWF soon afterwards. DOA dropped Chainz and began to go straight tag team.

Savio Vega was in DX for about 30 seconds, Jesus was almost killed by Edge in his RAW debut. Farooq was botted out of the NOD and replaced by Owen Hart. Farooq teamed with Shamrock and Steve Blackman for a while but couldn't get a win over his old teamates.

In a time period when WWF sucked, this really SUCKED! If you found it interesting to read about then cool, go watch some of it and see how bad it was.

Great job on your review of the way the entire angle run for the most part.  Honestly, I feel like you made the angle sound more good than as bad as you intended to.  Minus the "watch and see how bad it was for yourself" comment, I'd almost say this was a positive review.

One thing you didn't touch on was why this entire schmoz sucked so bad (I do remember it being poor as well).

It is easily recognizable that the split of the original NOD (Farooq, Savio, and Crush) is what sent this entire Gang Warz feud into the pits of bad angle hell.  I mean, that version of the NOD was fine.  The WrestleMania 13 match was actually VERY good and was EXACTLY the type of match the majority of the wrestlers involved were good at (only Savio Vega, Farooq, and Johnson were good to decent inside the ring at this point; Crush, was he ever good?; LOD were just too old to go in standard matches).  Had this angle been kept up THIS was for the next couple of months, the feud could have really been a success.  Farooq was getting elevated decently (he did get a WWF Title shot), Ahmed was REALLY over for a certain length of time, Savio/Crush could have made a really good tag team during a time frame when WWF had few GOOD tags, and LOD were interesting again for the first time in years.

DOA, Boricuas, and Truth Commission...UGHH!

Complete and utter crap.  And as bad as these groups were, at least they weren't on the sh*t-level with...wait for it...THE ODDITIES!!!

I mean, DOA and Boricuas had A REASON for forming...Truth Commission was worthless, I admit, but...THE ODDITIES!  It was a bunch of the WWF's weird looking wrestlers put together for no reason other than to get them on TV.  Now this was like a circus.  The only positive I can say about this was the theme song was catchy.
