Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted December 10, 2002 From 1boob: You can call it the XPW Arena now. Viking Hall (the former ECW Arena) in south Philadelphia will be home exclusively to XPW starting 1/1. The promotion signed a lease and put down a substantial deposit for the right to be the only wrestling company allowed to run the building. One source reported that the annual rent XPW will have to pay will be in the low six figures. The move leaves both CZW and 3PW without a building in which to hold their monthly Philly shows. Butch D’Amato of the Viking Club is attempting to find another location for the promotions to run next year. Needless to say, I'm not happy about this. Philly has always been a hotbed for wrestling, as Viking Hall was host to CZW, XPW, and 3PW for the second half of this year, and JAPW ran Viking Hall before, not to mention a little company called ECW that made that little bingo hall on the corner of Swanson and Ritner infamous. Now that XPW has the exclusive lease on the building, it put 3PW and CZW in difficult situations. Before, I would have called this a good business move by XPW. However, now with the Philadelphia Deathmatch ban, you have to wonder about it now. Now only is a low six-digit figure being paid yearly on the building, as XPW appears to be paying not only what they would owe but also what CZW and 3PW would pay to run there, there is the cost of moving the employees out there more often now. One of XPW's big money drawers, the deathmatches, can no longer be done in Viking Hall. XPW also isn't in good graces with the Philly Athletic Commission after the Angel bleeding incident, so one has to wonder how XPW will cater to the bloodmarks towards whom they have pitched their product towards. I was originally looking to going to Viking Hall someday, mostly taking a road trip and going there this summer with some friends. I would have loved to have seen an ECW show there (Hell, I would have loved to have seen an ECW show anywhere), and CZW running there would have made for a fine substitute. However, I've got no interest in XPW at all, and I'm not going to go to an XPW show just to be at Viking Hall. I just feel a little upset at this news, that unless something changes in the future, I'm not going to be able to see a wrestling promotion that I enjoy at Viking Hall. Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Sandman, depending on where you live, you can still catch Cage of Death 4 via a bus tour or something. I think in the long run it will be beneficial to CZW- they won't have to pay the outrageous rental fee for Viking Hall (it's something like $3,000, compared to high three figures for Murphy Rec). They can save money, and still run all the deathmatches they want in Delaware. They still don't have to scale back if they don't want to, they could test run a couple of shows in New York, maybe the Hammerstein or the Elks Lodge, or go to Boston, which is DYING for decent indy wrestling. This deal actually screws over XPW, because of the reasons you mentioned above. If anything, this proves that Rob Black is a money mark who will have to fold the promotion in a year or so. So other than the blasphemy of these idiots running in ECW's old home fulltime, I don't see a problem with it.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted December 11, 2002 That sucks IMO. XPW exclusivly using the arena is going to hurt the indy market in Philly. Did anyone else here that Jerry Lynn will be joining XPW soon?
Guest Phoenix Fury Legdrop Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Here's my thing: Who cares? It's Rob Black and co. marking out over the fact that they're ECW marks, which makes no sense at all. Anyway, I predict that the Philly scene is dead in 8 months from now. If anything, this hurts 3PW. CZW has Delaware, ROH has Philly, Hamburg, now NYC, and if plans go right, parts of the Midwest (Chicago, Detroit), XPW has the Olympic in SoCal and now their own building in Philly; what does 3PW have? Nothing. As for Jerry Lynn, I think it sucks. I don't know what him and Feinstein have against each other, because I guarentee you, if there wasn't any heat anywhere, he'd be in ROH at least 3/4 of their shows. Good luck to him, I guess. No one else needs him, which says something about the indies now.
Guest EMAXSAUN Report post Posted December 11, 2002 That sucks IMO. XPW exclusivly using the arena is going to hurt the indy market in Philly. Did anyone else here that Jerry Lynn will be joining XPW soon? yeah i heard that, he is in a good match: from XPW: XPW UPDATE December 10, 2002 XPW TO SAY "MERRY FN' XMAS" TO FANS WITH A LIMITED EDITION HOME VIDEO! All fans in attendance on Saturday night, December 21st, will receive a free limited edition XPW home video titled MERRY X MAS PHILLY! The tape will not only contain highlights from the past year but exclusive footage never before released on home video plus a very special X Mas greeting from Lizzy Borden - and she's definitely on the NAUGHTY list! Tickets are available now by calling toll free 1-866-888-4336 or logging on to XPWrestling.com. The main event was scheduled to be XPW World Champion "The Franchise" Shane Douglas taking on Vicious Vic Grimes, the man who broke both his hands at Exit Sandman. However, Vic has neither been seen nor heard from since Shane ran him down with a car last week. Supreme has challenged champion Altar Boy Luke to a House of Horrors match for the King of the Deathmatch Title! What exactly that is and whether Luke can survive will be revealed on Saturday night December 21. XPW World Tag Team Champions Mexico's Most Wanted will take on the newest tag team to be signed to XPW by owner Lizzy Borden. DECEMBER 21st, XPW MERRY FN' X MAS TO FEATURE 4 DEBUTS IN A 4 CORNERS MATCH FOR AN XPW TV TITLE SHOT! JERRY LYNN vs. JOEY MATTHEWS vs. JONNY STORM vs. THE ZEBRA KID In what should go down as one of the most exciting bouts in XPW history, 4 newcomers will all get the shot at a match for the XPW TV Title as the winner of this 4 Corners Match will challenge the XPW TV champion on Friday night, January 17th at XPW's New Year's Revolution at Viking Hall in Philly. For Jerry Lynn it is about proving himself to be the best. The man who was once known in Viking Hall as "The New FN' Show" wants to reclaim that glory while proving that he is the best wrestler today bar none! His accomplishments outside of XPW speak volumes, but now it is time to see if he can prove himself, as Kaos likes to call himself, "simply the best." For Joey Matthews it is about making a name for himself. As one half of what was considered by many one of the best tag teams in the history of ECW, Matthews found mild success with his partner Christian York. Now out on his own, Matthews comes to XPW with something to prove. What better way to do that then to beat three other men on your first night and earn an XPW TV title shot? For Jonny Storm it is about becoming an American superstar. Considered by many to be simply THE best wrestler in the U.K., Jonny has been overlooked by fans in the U.S. for way too long. When XPW began it's Global Xpansion in England, Storm was the first to sign up. He already has a reputation here in the United States, but it is a reputation that many feel doesn't even scratch the surface of what this young man is capable of. For the Zebra Kid it is about respect. As other British wrestlers were given opportunities to compete here in the U.S., the Zebra Kid was heralded by many to be the best wrestler who had never been exported to the states. Upon that recommendation he has earned a shot in XPW. He feels that not only does he have something to prove against American's Jerry Lynn and Joey Matthews, but that he has to put Jonny Storm in his place as well. Each man will have a corner. Two men will enter the middle of the ring. Any man can tag any other man. Elimination occurs when a wrestler is pinned or submits. The one man who survives will get a shot at the XPW Television Champion, whoever it may be, on Friday night, December 17th at XPW's New Year's Revolution part of the entire X Fest weekend that includes NYR on Friday night, a Fan Fest and Q&A Session Saturday morning, a concert Saturday evening, and XPW's Aftermath card on Saturday night! And Shark Boy returns to XPW to battle Chris Hamrick! Challengers have yet to be named for XPW TV Champ Kaos, but next Monday night's XPW TV should answer any lingering questions and will answer the question of what the Sandman vs. Pogo stipulation will be! Plus: Danny Doring, Chris Chetti, Psicosis, Julio Dinero and more including the SINGING DEBUT OF J-LOVE!
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Just another way that anti-ECW XPW is trying to be more like...ECW. Black's only leasing the building cause he can really, that's all...Black's hurting the indy scene a lot more then he's helping it.

Well the only reason he came over to the east coast is because the indy scene is better. All XPW is doing right now is pissing all over ECW's legacy and if they do call it the "XPW Arena" then I say we burn that motherfucker down with XPW inside. As one half of what was considered by many one of the best tag teams in the history of ECW, I must have missed that one...kinda funny. They were in ECW for about 4 months or so...and were given about nothing to do. I dig York and Matthews, but greatest ECW team ever? They don't even crack the top

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted December 11, 2002 ...dammit, why are all these former ECW alumni pissing on ECW's grave?! **gets ready to add FUCK YOU JERRY LYNN to his sig**
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted December 11, 2002 In the defence of former ECW wrestlers, they have to do what they have to do to survive. Most of them probably look back at ECW as a place where they worked their asses off and never got proper paydays. I think these days a job is a job in the Wrestling business and former ECW talent don't give a fuck, because they are getting paid now.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted December 12, 2002 Lynn could easily get booked in indy shows all over the country, probably some that pay higher and provide a higher place on the card than XPW, PLUS he's getting a weekly check from TNA, who I'm POSITIVE pays more than XPW does. Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted December 12, 2002 Eh, Jerry Lynn is somebody I have too much respect for. He can work where he wants to work. The guy busts his ass more than anyone else on the indy circuit, he should take a higher payday. (I think TNA, despite national exposure, only pays him $800-1000 a week.) Guest EMAXSAUN Report post Posted December 12, 2002 i will be going to this show, it will be my 1st XPW show live. I'll tell you guys how it is. I am taking my brother and we are taking the bus from NYC. I am pumped up to see Lynn. I think this will be a great show. There are going to be a lot of people there. They run 3 bus trips from NYC, NJ, and Boston, all of which hold 100 people and all of which have sold out, so thats 300 people taking the bus trips alone. + the people who are ordering online, at the arena, and at xpw ticket outlets, it should be a good crowd. + the show looks fantastic so far: Grimes vs Douglas for the XPW Title Suprme vs Altar Boy Luke in a House of Horrors Match of the DM Title 4 Corners Elimination Match for #1 Contendership to the TV title: Lynn vs Storm vs Zebra Kid vs Joey Matthews Shark Boy vs Chris Hamrick Mexico's Most Wanted will take on the newest tag team to be signed to XPW by owner Lizzy Borden Sandman vs Pogo in a match with stipulations to be announced on XPWTV Kaos vs. ?? for the TV Title to be announced on XPWTV Plus: Danny Doring, Chris Chetti, Psicosis, Julio Dinero and more including the SINGING DEBUT OF J-LOVE! Douglas said he wants to sign 10-12 matches for the card, and there are already 7, + with the superstars left we will probably be treated to a few more. the card looks good and i am supre excited about the event. Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted December 12, 2002 IWA-MS's House of Horros match is a 200 lightbulbs match. Unless XPW wants to piss of the PA athletic commmission, I'm imaging they will run something else? Probably will be their version of Cage of Death.
Guest EMAXSAUN Report post Posted December 12, 2002 xpw would have to be fucking moronic to do that and then get themselves banned from philly, a place where they just spent a shitload of money to get themselves an exclusive lease on an arena. it will be probably more like what you said, a cage match of sorts. that leads me to, what is czw going to do for the cage of death match? do you think they are going to go all out because this will be the last show in viking hall. on another note, i personally think that this sucks that this will be the last czw show in viking, i like czw and xpw, and i liked being able to get direct access to either event via bus trip from nyc, but now that czw cant run in viking, where are they gonna run? i mean they can still run in other places, but i am not going to go to delaware for the show, i perfer philly, its closer
