Guest Flyboy Report post Posted December 11, 2002 This is a thread about your favorite NFL team clinching their division in the upcoming weeks. No Packers or 49er fans allowed (although, I like both teams). SAINTS: IF the Saints beat the Vikings and IF the Giants lose (to the Cowboys). IF the Saints beat the Vikings and IF the Eagles lose (to the Redskins). IF the Saints have a tie with the Vikings and IF the Giants tie with the Cowboys. I'm wondering how other teams would be able to clinch their divisions.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted December 11, 2002 I don't think that's right. Tampa's a game up on them. They might be able to clinch a playoff spot, but they'd need a Tampa loss to go up in the division. Then they'd win the tiebreaker with the two head-to-head victories, if I'm not mistaken. Guest Flyboy Report post Posted December 11, 2002 ... Gah! Wait, let me post what the Saints' newsletter says since that's where I got the idea of this post from. EDIT: Here we go: NEW ORLEANS SAINTS OFFICIAL PLAYOFF-CLINCHING SCENARIOS The New Orleans Saints are closing in on a spot in the NFC Playoffs as they host the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday (Noon CT) in the Superdome. The Saints can clinch a playoff spot this week in one of three ways: New Orleans win + N.Y. Giants loss or tie OR New Orleans win + Philadelphia win or tie OR New Orleans tie + N.Y. Giants loss Any of those scenarios would give the Saints their sixth NFC Playoff berth in their history and the second in the last three seasons under Coach Jim Haslett. Tampa Bay at Detroit (Noon CT): Tampa Bay clinches a playoff spot if they win or tie or the Giants lose or tie.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted December 11, 2002 no they cant but they have the lead in the division (steelers) Bucs dont have two wins on Saints, they do on Falcons though
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted December 11, 2002 I know, I was saying that the Saints would win the tiebreaker. I just checked NFL.com and the scenario you posted there would clinch them a playoff spot, Flyboy. They're a game behind in the division at 9-4 to Tampa's 10-3. The Bucs can clinch a playoff spot by winning at Detroit this Sunday or a NY Giants loss or tie. The division won't be decided until the last week with three teams bunched up like that. Guest Flyboy Report post Posted December 11, 2002 a ha screw em anyway they are only the saints *bitchslaps converge* Last year they were not a playoff team. But, what about THIS year?! They've beaten Tampa Bay (TWICE!), the 49ers, AND Green Bay. They're only the Saints? Please.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted December 11, 2002 The Saints can thank the Redskins for clinching this week since the Eagles are gonna kill em. Of course, the Redskins still thank the Saints for Trading all those draft picks to the Skins so they could draft Ricky Williams. Meanwhile, the Ravens still have a shot at the NFC North. The Steelers have to lose to either the Panthers or the Bucs and the Ravens have to beat the Texans and the Browns. If this scenario holds up, the Ravens would be 1/2 game behind the Steelers and week 17, Ravens at Steelers would be for the Division. The Browns who are 1/2 game back currently also play Indianapolis and Atlanta, I don't think they can win both games, and even if they do win both games and lose to the Ravens, they would lose the tiebreaker to the Ravens based on a 2-0 Ravens sweep of the series this year vs the Browns. I think chances are good that the Bucs can beat the Steelers, and Im hopeful that the Ravens can beat the Texans (not as sure as I was..) and the Browns (who they pasted earlier in the year). Then it would pretty much all come down to the last game in Pittsburgh, and anything can happen in 1 game..

Guest Flyboy Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Oops. I read that e-mail wrong. I know the Eagles can beat the Redskins, now if only my Saints' D will stop Bennett and Moss.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted December 11, 2002 They could! That Patrick Ramsey is a talent, I say. But if they don't beat the Eagles, maybe the Cowboys or Giants could emerge from their deep sleep to get the job done and put Tampa into the #1 seed. I see that scenario coming into place, as the Ravens win their next two and the Steelers fall to the mighty Bucs on MNF. Pittsburgh then beats Baltimore to win the division. You heard it here first. Guest midnight_burn Report post Posted December 11, 2002 The Titans can't clinch a playoff spot this week, the way that division and the whole AFC is it'll almost certainly come down to the final week. Curses at Indianapolis having an easier final 3 games, while Tennessee get the damn Patriots on Monday Night Football. If the Titans can manage to win that they should win the division though, with games against the Jaguars and Texans to finish off the season.
Guest Goodear Report post Posted December 11, 2002 I don't think anyone is going to keep the Eagles from running the rest of the table to cinch up home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Redskins stink and are in complete disarray from the things that have been going on with Marvin Lewis (their defensive coordinator) contemplating head coaching jobs ... The Eagles always get up to play Dallas and are easily the better team, so they shouldn't get upset there. And The Giants won't have anything to play for in the last week of the season since they'll be out of the playoff race while the Eagles will be working for home field advantage. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 11, 2002 I think the Giants will be the only remaining game that will give the Eagles a challenge. Sure the Giants likely won't have anything to play for playoff wise. However It's a division game and giving a divisional rival a lose going into the playoffs will get any team up for that game.
