Guest Paranoid Report post Posted December 11, 2002 I live in Georgia, but I have some really good friends in Alabama considering that's where my wife's from. But ever since that pussy Franchione left The University of Alabama I have been in constant contact with alot of people concerning who they might get as a coach. Well I found out yesterday that none other then Steve Spurrier came down to Tuscaloosa to talk with Mal Moore (Athletic Director) and Paul Bryant Jr. Now the details of the meeting are not known, but he was there. I really hope they hire him, but there are alot of things that make me think other wise. Can they afford him is the biggest!
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Good. They can hire Spurrier, and UCLA can go ahead and sign either Mike Riley or Rick Neuheisel. In some article I saw Spurrier's name brought up for the UCLA job, that would be kick ass once he had the players for the Fun N Gun in. But I think it was just a general mention, nothing serious. Riley would be a good choice for both schools...he managed to rebuild Oregon State, and in fact many of the players from their Fiesta Bowl team were recruited by Riley. I'm kinda hoping UCLA takes Riley, but he should be good for either UCLA or Alabama.
Guest Paranoid Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Since Riley has ties to The Bear he will probably get the job at Bama. I would still rather have Spurrier.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted December 11, 2002 It wouldn't suprise me if Rick Neiuhesel bailed on another team. Gary Barnett will probably end up being a candidate for both jobs. Spurrier's ego is too big to leave the NFL after one year, and Snyder won't fire him.
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted December 11, 2002 There are several UCLA boosters who want Neuheisel so badly they're willing to pay part of his salary if UCLA offers him a big contract. Another UCLA name is Karl Dorrell, Denver Broncos recieveing coach. He's known as a disciplinarian, which is something UCLA really needs right now. Denver defensive coordinator Greg Robinson has come up too. Riley has West Coast connections, has coached in the Southern Cal area with USC (Toledo had also been a USC coach at one time as well) and was a head coach in the Pac-10 so he knows the league. I'm curious to see how this guy does after his NFL tenure...Pete Carroll did pretty damn well with USC, would wonder to see how Riley does.
Guest Paranoid Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Spurrier's ego is too big to leave the NFL after one year, and Snyder won't fire him. I thought that too, but why would he fly all the way to Tuscaloosa Al to meet with them if there isn't some interest?
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Why would Spurrier leave Florida to come to the NFL for one year, and then come back to coach at Alabama? Where has this been reported I haven't seen it anywhere?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Somebody likely saw him in Alabama and jumped to conclusions...likely he was having dinner or a award thingy.
Guest Paranoid Report post Posted December 11, 2002 I was told from an alumni who has serious ties to the athletic department. They had a meeting in Mal Moore's office behind closed doors and then he lefet. I don't know what they were talking about, but why would Alabama be giving him an award?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted December 11, 2002 I didn't say that...I said he might have been there for a Award ceremoney in Alabama or something like that...I haven't seen anything on it...so I am not taken you seriously...besides? Alabama? Fah-Sheez.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 11, 2002 Spurrier isn't going back to college. Even if he was there to interview for the job it was probably just so he could see if they would make him an offer he couldn't refuse. Hell maybe he went there to talk them out of looking at Marvin Lewis.
Guest cartman Report post Posted December 11, 2002 There was also a rumor about Bill Parcells talking to Alabama too...
Guest razazteca Report post Posted December 11, 2002 maybe Steve Spurrier was looking for another QB for the Redskins, its just a scouting mission for the draft
Guest Choken One Report post Posted December 12, 2002 A QB from Alabama? Please... Oh btw any truth to the rumors that Washington will trade a key Defense player for Bengals #1 draft pick to get Leftwich or Palmer?
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted December 12, 2002 Probably depends on if Spurrier sees any promise in Ramsey over the next three games. It probably also depends on if Grossman decides to come out. Grossman would fall to at least the second round if he came out this year and you know Spurrier would take him. Unless Champ Bailey is included i don't think the Bengals would take the trade.
Guest Paranoid Report post Posted December 12, 2002 A QB from Alabama? Please... No shit! Tyler Watts can run the ball good, but the boy throws like a girl and has since he was a freshman. Now the Freshman they have, Brody Croyle, has one hell of an arm. He's also just a natural athlete. but he would prosper in a Spurrier offence. But I doubt he would be scouting him already. Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted December 12, 2002 The Bengal have done some stupid shit in the past. Knowing them they"ll find a way to mess up in the draft. Leftwhich is black and and Akili Smit was a flop and he was black, or Carson Palmer and Akili Smith are both Pac 10 QB's we've had bad experiences with Pac 10 QB's. Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted December 12, 2002 Does anyone really want to be the #1 pick considering who gets it? Leftwich is probably happy he didn't get invited to the Heisman ceremony, he's probably hoping he drops a little and goes to a better situation. Another name for the Alabama job: Jim Leavitt, who currently is the South Florida head coach. South Florida was 9-2 this year. Another name for UCLA's job: Washington State head coach Mike Price. Guest Human Fly Report post Posted December 12, 2002 If the Bengals are smart they'll trade down and get multiple picks. Kitna is ok, we need a run stopper and a shut down corner. Supposedly Spurrier is enamored with Carson Palmer.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted December 12, 2002 EXACTLY! Problem is...Mike Brown will be convinced Palmer/Leftwich will suddendly solve our problems...our problem? Corners.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted December 12, 2002 If they did draft a QB they would HAVE to cut Akili. No one could rationalize paying 2 QBs ( maybe 3 if Kitna makes his incentives) big bucks to hold the clipboard. We should draft a QB in the 2nd round after we trade the #1 pick. It worked out well for the Chargers.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted December 13, 2002 I see Ken Dorsey on the Bengals maybe a 3rd round pick. They could than trade down and draft a DL like Kennedy, or Joseph or a shutdown CB like Wolfolk or the guy from K-State.
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted December 13, 2002 Sources say Mike Riley has been offered the Alabama job, he is deciding if he should take the job or not. Jim Leavitt (South Florida) and Dan Hawkins (Boise State) both accepted extensions...both were considered hot prospects coach-wise. Taking Dorsey in the third round and getting an impact player in the first round makes sense. Get Dorsey or whoever they draft about half a season or more holding the clipboard instead of being thrown into the fire like Smith was.
Guest Paranoid Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Mike Riley turned the job down today.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Houston Nutt's name is gonna surface for the job. Arkansas just seem to be the red-headed stepchild of the SEC, they can have a good team but it doesn't seem like they'll ever be able to get over the hump and be a Top 10 program.
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted December 14, 2002 Riley's gonna sign with UCLA. The sticking point with Alabama was that he was trying to work things out to get his family out but it was taking too long and Alabama basically said take it or leave it. Riley's family is in San Diego. UCLA is still looking at Karl Dorrell and Greg Robinson though. How about Mike Price? His name has surfaced lately, I saw it somewhere in connection for the Alabama job. Nutt would be a better fit than Price. Since Arkansas and Alabama play in the same division he would be more comfortable playing the other teams, and I imagine he recruits in the same areas Alabama does as well.
