The toughest game bosses...

Recommended Posts

Guest Renegade

As for mine:

Dr Willy in Megaman (especially in MM7), this bastard has had me swearing at my NES to PSX over the years.

Almost any version of Geese Howard.

The two robots (blue and yellow I think) from Contra 3.

Kingtaro from mortal kombat II (on very hard).

Practically anything from super ghouls and ghosts.

Yeah, Bison is rather annoying. Some people seem to have such an easy time with him though. BLARG.

The boss of "Mike Tyson's Punch-Out" for NES...Mike was a pain in the ass, if you were without a Game Genie back then...

I'll second that - mistime a sway or miss the wink and Tyson would eat you alive.

Another boss that gets consideration would be Zeromus from Final Fantasy IV. Say what you will about the plot contrivances that led to this ugly mutha being the bad guy, but he made it fucking worthwhile by unloading 2,000 point Big Bang after Big Bang while nullifying your defenses and - if the mood struck him - dropping flaming meteors on your head. The only RPG boss that I have ever had to fight more than five times...and that's including the end boss in Lunar.

I always thought Super Macho Man was harder than Tyson was. I could never time his "spin-around punch" thing correctly.

Gyrorg from Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Everything else in that game was uber easy except that POS boss.

Argh. Not a boss, but the stupid dog from Duck Hunt taunting/laughing at me when I missed almost made me toss my NES across the room on several occasions.

If you fight him normally, without taking advantages of glitches, Kintaro is really freakin hard in revision 1.4 of MK II(arcade version).

Mike Tyson in Punch Out and to this day I haven't beat him and Super Macho Man at first but when get used to his tornado punches it was easy. Kintaro in MK 2 the 1.4 verison once people couldn't press high punch and the let the time run out he str8 kicked your ass. Gill from Street Fighter 3 was pretty hard as well. Shredder from the 1st Ninja Turtles game is tough because of his cloning.

Not Super Bison from Street Fighter Alpha 3, but try and beat the game as Evil Ryu on hard.

Shin Akuma as a boss is just TOO DAMN HARD!!!

I will trip him up, put in the instant hell murder, and as I'm gliding towards him, he pops up and does his own IHM. Guess who's went off. Bastard.

Gil from SF3

Th Ultimate: Weigraff's 2 forms from Final Fantasy Tactics. Had too be a completely sneaky bastard to beat him without levelling up for 8 hours.

Zeromus is nasty.

Onslaught from Marvel v Capcom 1/2. What a filthy bastard.

Not a boss, but if you've ever seen Cool Cool Toons, an import title or DC, it has literally the hardest last stage ever. Impossible to describe.

Last boss from Blazing Star.

Since it's the hardest fighter I've ever played, I imagine Last Blade 2 has a tremendous last boss, since I could usually only get to like the 5th fight.

The boss in Last Blade 2, Kouryu, is extremely cheap in typical SNK fashion. I don't think he is as cheap as say Omega Rugal though. Genocide Cutta!!

Eternal Champion/Dark Champion from Eternal Champions: CFTDS - If you were lucky enough to even make it to these guys, the developers made sure that you would pay for having such skills. If you have played the first EC game, you know how cheap the Eternal Champion was. In this, you have to beat BOTH Eternal and Dark in one huge match (mind you, both characters have different forms).

Oh dude, I totally forgot about EC. I have NEVER managed to beat the final boss, even my cheap throw tactic with Shadow wouldnt cut it.

What's CFTDS? A sequel?

I always had trouble w/ Wendy O. Koopa in SMB3. Those damn rings she threw always fucked me up.

The optional bosses off of Final Fantasy VII. I actually managaed to beat Emerald Weapon once(I still to this day don't know how), but I'll be damned if Ruby Weapon doesn't just kick my ass everytime in just 3 turns...

Doesn't exactly fit under the topic, but Ultima and Omega Weapon in FF X pissed me off for an entirely different reason. THEY WERE TOO GODDAMN EASY! Seriously, I killed Ultima Weapon in like 3 turns and Omega in 2! I didn't even get Nova from Omega... damn Anima.

Those fucking weapons...

The first time I fought them, I didn't realize what they were, and they fucking CREAMED me. Never again.

I literally must've logged another 20 hours into that game just levelling up and getting uber-materia, until I went back and SLAUGHTERED Emerald Weapon, in the time limit, and then I roasted Ruby Weapon, even though I only had one character alive throughout the entire freaking battle...

Of course, that made the actual last boss a HUGE disapointment. After that, I was ready for a fucking hour off sever ass-kickery on both sides, but no - I massacred whatever the fuck that was with little to no trouble.

I also toss in Dr. Wiley from the Mega Man series (Always, the most USELESS weapon is the only one that hurts him) and Mike FREAKIN' Tyson. What a bastard.

I also second the Shredder from TMNT II. At least, I think it was two - when he would clone himself. Frigger me jiggers, I only ever beat him once, and no one saw it, thus no one believed me. Bastards.

Hardest Boss Fights:

Damn near any final boss from the King of Fighters series. CHEAP ASS BASTARDS~!

Agreed on the Wiegraf two-stage battle in Final Fantasy Tactics. I wanted to hurt someone after the third and fourth losses.

Final Fantasy VII's Ruby Weapon...dammit...WHY? *relives nightmares*

Shin Akuma in MvC2 is blatantly cheap it's not even funny sometimes.

M. Bison in SFA3. Same deal.

Easiest Boss Fights:

Sephiroth vs Cloud: Final Battle. *dink* It's over...

Also, Silent Scope 2's Final Boss. *dink* It's over... (if your a good shooter)

Chaos in the first Final Fantasy is just damned unfair, he's got spells which can kill your entire party in just one move. Bastard.

On the harder difficulty modes, that last fistfight with Liquid in MGS is really difficult.

Dracula in Castlevania III, easily the toughest variation of the Count, with no less than three separate forms that you have to defeat one after the other, and if you die, you start WAY back in the stage.

Here's a minor tip/suggestion for all you crazy people having problem with Wiegraf in FFT:

Turn all of your people into Lancers and, if you haven't already, grab the Throw Item support skill from the Chemist job.

It's a long, long battle of attrition, but when Wiegraf/Velius uncorks his Zodiac area-effect bullshit, your Lancers will be in the air, laughing at him. And, when Velius and his jackasses do plunk one of your guys, you can throw him a Phoenix Down with Throw Item and either sacrifice your guy again to draw out an attack or have him jump.

Plus, having the additional combat range of the spears is more helpful than you can imagine with all the wonky ascending terrain in that battle.

Bonus Additional Tip: Use Mustadio's Don't Act/Don't Move/Seal Evil skill set crazy. If you switch Mustadio over to being a chemist (so that he can throw items and shoot guns), you'll also have an easier time with this one.

----------------------------------------------------------

And, as a slight addendum, I'd like to throw on Igor & Frankenstein and the Grim Reaper from the original Castlevania onto the pile because, if they chose to be, they could be ridiculously cheap.

Guest KoR Fungus

The final boss in Darkstalkers is ridiculous. I never beat him, not once, even on the easiest difficulty level. Getting there is no problem, beating him is impossible.

Emerald was pretty easy, you just KoR/Mime about ten times and he's done. Ruby, on the other hand, is just nasty. The Ultima counterattack to KoR is just sick, as are those stupid tentacles that come up behind you. It took me about twenty tries to beat him, and I only won because I got ridiculously lucky and just kept dodging his Ultimas.

The hardest group of custom monsters in FF10 are all impossible. They have millions of HP and do five digit damage to everyone with every attack. I never even got close to beating any of them.

Chaos in FF1 is a total bitch, not so much because he does a lot of damage, but more because when he's taken about 1600 (out of 2000) damage, he just casts Cure 4 on himself and he's back to full. Of course, by then your party is completely drained and has no chance of doing 2000 more damage to him. The whole Temple of Fiends revisted is horrible. You have to fight harder versions of all four of the fiends, and then fight Chaos, and all the while you're being attacked by parties of some of the hardest enemies in the game. You can't save, you can't exit, and the only way to restore yourself is with Cure potions, and most of those end up being used up when Lich casts Nuke on you. Soo hard.
