Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 I have no idea where my other thread went. My one about Juniors. But I saved it so here: You know I'm a big fan of Junior Heavyweight wrestling. And I was wondering what everyone else thought of some Juniors I enjoy. So I'm asking if you guys will tell me what you think of each of these Juniors and who out of all of them is the best. Who is the worst? Here goes: 1) The Great Sasuke 2) Tiger Mask 4 3) Jushin Thunder Lyger 4) Shinjiro Ohtani 5) El Samurai 6) Super Delfin 7) Gedo 8) Jado 9) Ultimo Dragon 10) Rey Mysterio Jr. 11) Chris Benoit(from his jr. days) 12) Gran Naniwa 13) TAKA 14) Kaz Hayashi 15) Koji Kanemoto 16) Heat 17) Juventud Guerrera 18) CIMA 19) Chris Jericho(when he was a jr.) 20) Eddie Guerrerro(when he was a jr.) So that's a lot of workers. What does everyone think about them? I mean what are there strong points and bad points both past and present? Who's the best? Who's the worst? Anymore I left out? What do you think of them. *just trying to start some friendly convo*
Guest DragonflyKid Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 You know I'm a big fan of Junior Heavyweight wrestling. Who is the worst? *just trying to start some friendly convo* Before asking the question of what everyone else thought of them why don't you actually write what you thought of them first. That would help stimulate friendly conversation. I haven't seen enough of the juniors on the list to get into the discussion since I started with AJPW and am now into Joshi.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 Very well. I haven't seen a lot of these. Just heard of them. And I was wondering what people thought of them just to get an idea. Plus I'm just not as well versed in this stuff. 1) The Great Sasuke Sasuke has always been one of my favorites. During 94-96 from what I saw he could pull spot after spot but make it mean something in the long run. From what I understand though he's degenerated into a meaningless spot machine these days. 2) Tiger Mask 4 I've seen very little of the new Tiger Mask. But from what I saw he's living up to what Sayama set. 3) Jushin Thunder Lyger What can be said? The guy is simply amazing. He's a great wrestler and he seems to wrestle a different style than the other juniors. While short he's not as skinny as the other juniors so he can't go bouncing around the ring. However he can bring the pain with all of his powerbombs and strikes, and when he does go up top it's usually a beautiful thing.(ok that was cheesy) To bad he tried to go heavyweight though. And I understand he won't pass the torch these days. 4) Shinjiro Ohtani The guy took the divison by storm. He was a young lion that came out of nowhere and started whooping ass. His true dickery in matches always makes me laugh and I wish he was still a junior. 5) El Samurai Haven't seen much of him. Just his J-Cup performances. 6) Super Delfin The guy has got to be on some drug. He's just weird. He's pretty entertaining at times but that Delfin clutch is so stupid. 7) Gedo Now here's somebody I like. Some may hate him for beating Benoit but hey he took a shit kicking like a man in that match. I just love his little rudo assholeness. 8) Jado Haven't seen much of him. 9) Ultimo Dragon Now he was awesome. It's to bad that he had that botched surgery. He's back now but will he be as good as he was? The guy was lightening fast and could put on a great match with is eyes closed. 10) Rey Mysterio Jr. He's a great high flyer. Or was a great high flyer. He used to truly impress me until the knee injuries, and his acceptance of the WWE style. 11) Chris Benoit(from his jr. days) He truly was awesome. Still is even though he's limited these days. But back in his junior days the guy could make you wince watching him dish it out. There's a reason everyone loves Benoit. 12) Gran Naniwa HAHAHA! I mark for the gimmick. 13) TAKA It's kind of tragic what the WWE did to him. But when he was in M-Pro the guy was quick and could fly like none-other. 14) Kaz Hayashi Haven't seen much. 15) Koji Kanemoto Only seen a short match of him as TM3. Can't judge really. 16) Heat Never seen him in action. 17) Juventud Guerrera The guy was a great luchadore. Until he decided to become a rapper. It seems to happen to all luchadores in america. They lose there mask and go all thug. It's annoying. 18) CIMA Haven't seen. 19) Chris Jericho(when he was a jr.) He was pretty good as a junior. But he was sloppy. I've seen few of his Junior matches but he was sloppy as hell in them. Not much has changed these days. But back then he could get the crowd into the match easily. 20) Eddie Guerrerro(when he was a jr.) Just like Benoit he could make you wince when he was laying a beating on someone. And today he's still one of the best! So there's what I think. Also what do you guys think of these juniors in relation to the heavyweight at there time?
Guest Jubuki Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 1) The Great Sasuke The king of Spot Fu. I'm bored with his stuff after 97 or so. 2) Tiger Mask 4 I don't really like any of the TMs. Misawa was great, but as a heavy. 3) Jushin Thunder Lyger Greatest Jr. heavyweight of all time. Next... 4) Shinjiro Ohtani Had it in him to be better than Liger, but, like Toyota wasn't better than Hokuto or Jag and Kobashi wasn't better than Kawada or Misawa, he never reached it. But that was half booking, half work. And half putting on weight. 5) El Samurai Really awful for a while, really great for a while (maybe the best), now really awful again. Strangest career arc of them all. 6) Super Delfin He doesn't irritate me as much as Sasuke, but probably because he hasn't been overpushed by a major company. Good as an indy king. 7) Gedo Never as bad as people pretended, never as good as anyone claimed. 8) Jado Eh. He has his spots down and somehow he's notably improved. I don't buy that; he's the worst on the list so far, and by a lot. 9) Ultimo Dragon Damn...if he'd stayed in NJ or hadn't had the elbow trouble...forget Toryumon - he could have been a major piece in keeping WCW's Cruiserweight division a success, if only because he could make just about all those guys look good and keep them fresh in the crowd's minds. 10) Rey Mysterio Jr. Wait, he's the King of Spot Fu. Well, maybe not - I think he actually had a better grasp on how to work than Sasuke did. I'll take Rey's best singles matches over Sasuke's. 11) Chris Benoit(from his jr. days) A step behind Liger, right there with Ohtani. 12) Gran Naniwa Pfffft. 13) TAKA Should have never gone to the WWF; should have parlayed their interest in him into a contract with NJ. 14) Kaz Hayashi ZETA CAPUCHIN MONKEY X~! My own personal Favorite Wrestler That I'll Never Watch Because His Promotion Sucks. 15) Koji Kanemoto Feh. 16) Heat Double FEH. 17) Juventud Guerrera Unrealized potential. His recent CMLL stuff is nothing. 18) CIMA Half Feh. 19) Chris Jericho(when he was a jr.) TRIPLE FEEEEEEHHHHH 20) Eddie Guerrerro(when he was a jr.) Haven't seen a lot...but I might take him before Benoit. Was as strong a worker and had far more personality in the ring, even though I like Benoit's machine attitude.
Guest J*ingus Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 I have no idea where my other thread went. My one about Juniors. It did this really bizarre thing where it came out blank, with just a thread title and nothing else inside, no content, so I deleted it.
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 Strange.....damn board.
Guest blachuuh_monkey Posted December 14, 2002 Report Posted December 14, 2002 I think Jushin Lyger is by far the best. He is the most cosistent Junior ever and has made a lot of changes to his style over the years because of age and injury and always remained at the same level or pretty close to it from what I've seen. Benoit would be a close 2nd but was never around long enough to see if he would en dup better or not. The worst in my opnion is Naniwa. I enjoy the the gimmick but I think he is a very poor worker. At least compared to everyone else I've seen on the list. I've seen some of everyone but Heat and Jado. TM 4 is nowhere as good as TM 1 from what I've seen of the 2 although he is a pretty good worker.
Guest gansobomber Posted December 14, 2002 Report Posted December 14, 2002 If you ask me, I'd say The best is Shinjiro Otani, mainly because he couls get a crowd, that did not know who he was, to boo or cheer him. He was that good. He didn't need the name value that most juniors now need. I miss his dickishness... *sniff* By the way how come no one like Otaani has been able to spring up till now? Oh yeah the worst? I'd say Jericho because he was sloppy as hell.
Guest blachuuh_monkey Posted December 14, 2002 Report Posted December 14, 2002 Lyger got over huge in WCW instantly based solely on his in ring work. Check out his Superbrawl II match with Brian Pillman and you'll see what I'm talking about. I do agree that Ohtani can do the same thing as with Benoit which is just another reason they would be my top three. I think I put Benoit over Ohtani more out of a Bias towards Benoit but you could really go either way with those two.
Guest Black Tiger Posted December 14, 2002 Report Posted December 14, 2002 I'd say the best is a toss up between Lyger and Dragon, both were phenominal workers, the only real edge I think Lyger has on him, is that Dragon had his career cut short. Ohtani had all the tools to be the Lyger of the 21st century, but Lyger's refusing to give him a significant sigles push resulted with his getting fat and leaving NJ.
