Michael Vick

Guest El Satanico

Now as everyone knows, Mike Vick as he now wants to be called is currently the hottest thing in Football and has everyone drooling over his highlights. Be it televised experts, 12 year old Madden players or just some guy on the street seemingly everyone has proclaimed Vick the new football Messiah.

However not everyone is sold on “The Man Known As Vick” and I know they exist because I’ve seen them with my own eyes. These non-believers in Vick claim that he’s just a glorified RB and that he will never make it as a true QB in the NFL.

Seeing as how we are posting on a message board I’m sure that everyone here has a personal opinion on Mike Vick. I’d like for everyone to share his or her personal opinion of him and I’ll be sharing mine later.

Well, I have Vick's own jersey if that tells you anything.

People call Vick a glorified RB? I don't many RBs that can throw as far as him.. hell, even RUN as fast as him. What Vick has as a quarterback is the ability to read defenses better than most QBs. Sometimes he doesn't make the smartest throws or the smartest decisions (see last week's Falcons Vs. Tampa Bay game), but that's to be expected since the kid is just starting out. With time, experience, learning, training, etc. Vick will probably be the best QB in the NFL -- now, he probably won't be able to run as fast but he'll be good.

Also, if Vick learns to... STAY IN THE FUCKING POCKET sometimes then that might help, too.

Oh... and you mean "14 yr. old Madden players". :)

First of all, to all of the critics, what is a TRUE qb? The position has changed to a more mobile prototype so Michael Vick may be the epitome of a true qb.

I don't know about his throwing ability yet. I know he has an arm and people point out he throws few INTs but he also has few passing TDs so I am going to assume they are not running a complex system relying on precision passing. His running skills are unparalleled. With more experience and some weapons I highly doubt there is a way he won't be in the top three to five QBs for years to come with McNabb and Manning.

I agree.

I've yet to seem him "zip" too many balls into tight spots, but I know he can heave one long. He should practice on short routes -- maybe passes that go for 5 yds - 10 yds, and work on getting the ball to his receivers regardless of the coverage (except if he knows he's going to get an INT).

Oh... and Manning?

He's definitely talented. I think a lot of they hype is based on what people project him to be like in three or four years, when he has a bit more experience in the pros and develops the ability to throw the ball and scramble to buy himself time, rather than a guy who jumps at the first opportunity to take off down the field. And I definitely agree that he has the potential to be one of the all-time greats, if he continues to develop at this rate. Whether or not he'll ever be good enough to beat Tampa Bay remains to be seen, however.

Brooks was able to TWICE, and Vick is his cousin.

He will one day... it runs in their blood.

It depends.

He seems to fall apart when his running gets shut down. He didn't prove himself against a good defense last week. Plus he's run up his numbers on some crappy Minn and Carolina defenses.

For me how he does in the playoffs and with next years harder schedule will be when I decide.

Why must you turn every thread into a house of lies?

Not EVERY thread... just football threads.

And Brooks beating the Bucs TWICE TWICE TWICE TWICE (*ahem*) is no lie. I have their Sunday Night Football game recorded... and I think about you and laugh everytime I view it.

At this point Vick isn't a complete QB as he runs first and passes second and his accuracy isn't great.

The biggest thing with Vick is that he has a cannon arm and they cannot teach that to a player. Coaches can teach accuracy and since Vick is smart with the ball there's no reason to believe that he won't get better on that aspect.

Once the talent around him improves and he gets some real weapons he won't have to run around and win games by himself and will then become a more of a QB than a RB.

I believe that Vick will end up as a better QB than McNabb in the long run. Vick has a stronger arm and he's a better runner than McNabb.

The people questioning Vick are likely the same people who said that McNabb would never make it as a QB. And probably the same people that bitch about every qb that doesn't drop back 5 steps and then throws or gets sacked.

I've seen Vick play a couple times and have say is talented no doubt. I saw how he throws the ball effortless he just flicks his wrist and the ball goes 50 yards. He's probably the fastest player in the NFL period, if he had a WR corps he'll stay in the pocket longer, and he also realize that he has to be careful when it comes to scrambling and not sliding he could get hurt often because he's not as big as McNabb who could take some hard hits.

I know he has an arm and people point out he throws few INTs but he also has few passing TDs so I am going to assume they are not running a complex system relying on precision passing.

Actually, his problem is that his receivers suck.

His best receiver is probably his TE, Alge Crumpler (who also has a hella cool name). Their leading receiver, Brian Finneran, isn't bad, but he's not a consistent 1000 yeard guy, and he's not a #1 receiver. If Atlanta could upgrade their talent at receiver in the offseason, then Vick might be able to do more throwing the ball.

He has a very strong arm in terms of velocity and throwing the deep ball, but his accuracy does need work. He could learn to stay in the pocket better, but he's basically surviving on sheer ability right now. If he sees the protection threatening to break down, he takes off. Eventually, Reeves will teach him to rein himself in and work within the offense, which I'm sure will be tweaked to capitalize on his incredible skills. It's scary what he could do once he actually learns how to play QB in the NFL.

And remember... he should be a senior in college right now.

Rich Gannon, Dan Marino, John Elway are real QBs, as in 5000 yards a season players.

The Running QB is a hit and miss deal as it is basically up to the coach to declare if the player is a QB such as what to do with Kordell or should he be converted into a WR like Randle-EL, Brian Mitchell, Eric Couch.

I seem to remember a few years ago that Randel Cunningham, McNabb and Culpepper were all the rage. The Cowboys experimented on a Running QB but it took Jerry Jones almost 2 years to declare that Quincy was a bust. These Slash type QBs can make or break a team, I do not think that any Super Bowl Champion has ever had a running QB as the star.

Michael Vick is a star on a team that has finally came out of the gutter of the South division. Vick is not this years MVP people, he is just a QB running for his life getting alot of attention because he is fast. I bet Randel-El could do the same if he became the QB of the Steelers.

.

There's Steve Young, Bret Farve and even Elway so I have to disagree that scramblers can't win Super Bowls.

that may be true but I do not think that they were the featured running back on the team.

Young had Ricky Watters?

Favre had Edge Bennett?

Elway had a running backs that could run for 2000 yards each in the winning seasons, but back in the 80s when the Broncos went to the Super Bowl with Sammy Smith? they lost them all and who was the coach back then? Dan Reeves who is currently with the Falcons has lost 4 Super Bowls!

Your right they had good enough RB's to help them win super bowls I miss understood the comment, but they were still scrambling QB's. I'll say this if the Falcons get recievers and a better secondary they will be super bowl a caliber team.

but now with the current rearrangement it will be hard to get a playoff spot as the other teams in the NFC South are as much of a contender as the Falcons.

If the Falcons can get a good receiver group going then they might have a chance but Defense win the big games and the Bucs has the Falcons number.

Vick is talented but still a little rough around the edges a healthy RB can help alot.

Vick could use someone like David Boston whose a free agent at the end of the year.

Please, you're talking like that means something. McNabb has beaten the Bucs three straight times, and our backups even beat their backups last year.

Flyboy--what are the chances of you guys taking the division from them? What is N.O.'s schedule from here on out.

Vikings

Bengals

Panthers....

Too easy.

If the Eagles win this week and if the Saints win, the Saints still clinch.
