Guest papacita Posted December 12, 2002 Report Posted December 12, 2002 Ok, a friend who's planning a trip to Canada asked me if she'll need to get a passport to get across the border. Now it seems to me like she would, but seeing as how I've never actually left the country, I'm not 100% sure. Soooo...somebody help me out. I'll give you a nickel.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted December 12, 2002 Report Posted December 12, 2002 It seems simple, but I've never had a passport, yet I went into Canada when I was eleven. I think it's required if you're over 18.
Guest TUS_02 Posted December 12, 2002 Report Posted December 12, 2002 You need SOME form of photo identification. Passport is the easiest, but I think I got away with using a drivers licsence.
Guest DJ Jeff Posted December 12, 2002 Report Posted December 12, 2002 I believe you do need a passport. I'm not too sure, since I haven't crossed the border yet, but I think you might need one. Just to be safe, I think she should get one.
Guest Texas Small Arms 09 Posted December 12, 2002 Report Posted December 12, 2002 I believe either a picture ID or a passport works. That's what our guys do when they travel.
Guest EricMM Posted December 12, 2002 Report Posted December 12, 2002 A passport is a pretty good thing to have. One should pick one up just in case.
Guest converge241 Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 I crossed fine with just the picture ID on my honeymoon we were there for a while though i guess we looked "suspicious" or they ahd some kind of "thorough check " quota to fill
Guest papacita Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 Ok, I told her that she could probably pass with her picture ID but may wanna consider getting a passport just to be safe. Thanks for your help.
Guest Will Scarlet Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 It may be a bit late, but, if she is driving there, then she could juse use some form of photo ID and her birth certificate. Of course, it all usually depends on which border guard you end up with.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 I went into Canada twice last year from Michigan...I don't have photo ID, but I had a copy of my birth certificate on me, first time they checked it, second time they didn't. But that was before 9/11...so things have changed I imagine
Guest Slingshot Suplex Posted December 14, 2002 Report Posted December 14, 2002 Yeah they cracked down big time after 9/11. My friend needed a passport to get through to Windsor which he didn't have.Photo ID and birth certificate were not enough. I would imagine they've softened a bit since then but I'd get one.In fact,I need to get one soon. This all reminded me to do that.
