Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 There is a GOTY thread somewhere...but this will be on a bigger scope. Post your picks here and I'll add them up in a few days when traffic runs down. Some games had to be smashed into categories to fit...Splinter Cell, Dead to Rights and GTA are all quite different...but I put them under Action anyway. Categories (mostly stolen or modified from GamePro's list): PC Game of the Year Multiplayer Game of the Year (best game to play with more than yourself) Sports Game of the Year (Simulation) (Examples: Madden, the 2K series...) Sports Game of the Year (Action) (Examples: Tony Hawk and the like) Racing Game of the Year Fighting Game of the Year (Wrestling, Virtua Fighter, Melees) RPG of the Year Platform Game of the Year (Mario, sly cooper) First Person Game of the Year (Yes. Metroid Prime counts) Action Game of the Year (GTA, Dead to Rights, Splinter Cell) Advenure Game of the Year (Eternal Darkness, Res. Evil) Doesn't fit into any other category Game of the Year (Animal Crossing, Mario Party, Money Ball) Most Innovative Game of the Year Worst Game of the Year Most Dissapointing Game of the Year Most Surprising (surprisingly good that is) Game of the Year GBA Game of the Year XBox Game of the Year Gamecube Game of the Year PS2 Game of the Year Console of the Year Game of the Year
Guest Kingpk Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 Note: I've played all the games I picked at least once. Categories (mostly stolen or modified from GamePro's list): PC Game of the Year = EWR 2.0 Multiplayer Game of the Year = Mario Party 4 Sports Game of the Year (Simulation) = Madden NFL 2003 Sports Game of the Year (Action) = Tony Hawk 4 Racing Game of the Year = no vote Fighting Game of the Year = Virtua Fighter 4 RPG of the Year = Final Fantasy X Platform Game of the Year = Maximo: Ghosts to Glory First Person Game of the Year = Red Faction 2 Action Game of the Year = GTA: Vice City Advenure Game of the Year = LOTR: The Two Towers Doesn't fit into any other category Game of the Year = Ace Combat 04 Most Innovative Game of the Year = Animal Crossing Worst Game of the Year = Mortal Kombat GBA Most Dissapointing Game of the Year = GTA: Vice City Most Surprising (surprisingly good that is) Game of the Year = WWE Smackdown: SYM GBA Game of the Year = no vote XBox Game of the Year = Splinter Cell Gamecube Game of the Year = Metroid Prime PS2 Game of the Year = Virtua Fighter 4 Console of the Year = PS2 (GC has had a lot of good games too, though) Game of the Year = Virtua Fighter 4 (this coming from someone who is indifferent on fighting games) EDIT: Changed my PC Game vote.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 Oops...I fucked that up. It's supposed to be "Console of the year" not console game. I'll go back and edit it.
Guest Flyboy Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 bps.. Since you have so much energy do a 128~! tourny for the Smarks to vote on their favorite video game. Get to work.
Guest Flyboy Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 Well, then... Kingpk has another tourny to do!
Guest Flyboy Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 Bastards. That's what you guys are.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 PC Game of the Year - Medal of Honor: Allied Assault Multiplayer Game of the Year (best game to play with more than yourself) - Timesplitters 2 Sports Game of the Year (Simulation) (Examples: Madden, the 2K series...) - NFL2K3 Sports Game of the Year (Action) (Examples: Tony Hawk and the like) - Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 Racing Game of the Year - Pro Race Driver (PS2) Fighting Game of the Year (Wrestling, Virtua Fighter, Melees) - Virtua Fighter 4 RPG of the Year - Suikoden III Platform Game of the Year (Mario, sly cooper) - Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus First Person Game of the Year (Yes. Metroid Prime counts) - Metroid Prime, for the love of gawd. Action Game of the Year (GTA, Dead to Rights, Splinter Cell) - I hate giving it to Vice City, but there's not that much competition elsewhere. Advenure Game of the Year (Eternal Darkness, Res. Evil) - Eternal Darkness, though I'd think Metroid could count here too. Doesn't fit into any other category Game of the Year (Animal Crossing, Mario Party, Money Ball) - Ikaruga (Dreamcast) Most Innovative Game of the Year - Eternal Darkness Worst Game of the Year - Minority Report, though LoW2 should get an honorable mention. Most Dissapointing Game of the Year - Neverwinter Nights Most Surprising (surprisingly good that is) Game of the Year - Rygar GBA Game of the Year - Zelda: A Link To The Past XBox Game of the Year - Can't say, since I haven't played any. Gamecube Game of the Year - Metroid Prime PS2 Game of the Year - Virtua Fighter 4 Console of the Year - Playstation2 Game of the Year - Metroid Prime, though Eternal Darkness and VF4 are damn close. It's a good thing Kingpk mentioned VF4, 'cause I forgot that it was released this year and it definitely deserves some accolades, methinks.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 PC Game of the Year - No vote Multiplayer Game of the Year - TimeSplitters 2 Sports Game of the Year (Simulation) - Madden 2003 Sports Game of the Year (Action) - No Vote Racing Game of the Year - Need For Speed 2 Fighting Game of the Year - Virtua Fighter 4 RPG of the Year - Kingdome Hearts. It's the only RPG I ever liked. Platform Game of the Year - Mario Sunshine for lack of competition First Person Game of the Year - TimeSplitters 2 (Although I put Prime in there for those who maintain that it isn't Metroid it's a First Person shooter...I think TS2 is far more reliant on the FP perspective for the game to work) Action Game of the Year- GTA Vice City Advenure Game of the Year - Eternal Darkness Doesn't fit into any other category Game of the Year - Animal Crossing Most Innovative Game of the Year - Socom. all XBox live games may have a headset for communication...but this came before that. The launch game of the PS2 online era, the headset to talk to other people who are alive or dead (depending on what you are), commanding your seal partners in offline mode with voice command. It might not be perfect...but that's alot of nifty things that were on the PS2 for the first time. Worst Game of the Year- WrestleMania X8 Most Dissapointing Game of the Year- UFC Throwdown. Pride had better be good. Most Surprising (surprisingly good that is) Game of the Year- Smackdown 4. I'm shocked at how much I enjoy playing this game. GBA Game of the Year- no vote XBox Game of the Year- Gamecube Game of the Year- Metroid Prime (it's release bumped my early favorite Eternal Darkness out of the running) PS2 Game of the Year- GTA Vice City Console of the Year- Gamecube. As I look at the year that was I find that I purchased more PS2 games than GC games (mainly because I buy all my sports games for PS2) but that I like the exclusives better on GC. Prime, Eternal Darkness, Mario, Animal Crossing, Resident Evil + 0, Monkey Ball 2...they just overcame the PS2 exclusives I bought like GTA VC and Kingdom Hearts. Game of the Year- Metriod Prime.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 I thought about putting Metroid in the adventure category too...since that's what it is. But I didn't want to rehash the whole "Prime" isn't a metroid game it's a FPS argument. I agree with you on that though MIB.

Guest KoR Fungus Posted December 13, 2002 Report Posted December 13, 2002 There's going to be a lot of passes from me, since I really haven't played that many new games this year and I think it's kind of silly to rate games that I haven't played... PC Game of the Year - Pass Multiplayer Game of the Year (best game to play with more than yourself) - Tekken 4 Sports Game of the Year (Simulation) (Examples: Madden, the 2K series...) - Pass Sports Game of the Year (Action) - Pass Fighting Game of the Year (Wrestling, Virtua Fighter, Melees) - Tekken 4 RPG of the Year- Suikoden 3 Platform Game of the Year (Mario, sly cooper) - Pass First Person Game of the Year (Yes. Metroid Prime counts) - Pass Action Game of the Year (GTA, Dead to Rights, Splinter Cell) - Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance Advenure Game of the Year (Eternal Darkness, Res. Evil) - Pass Doesn't fit into any other category Game of the Year (Animal Crossing, Mario Party, Money Ball) - DDR Max Most Innovative Game of the Year - ...Pass, haven't played any particularly innovative games this year. Worst Game of the Year - ...Pass, haven't played any truly terrible games this year either. Most Dissapointing Game of the Year - Wipeout Fusion Most Surprising (surprisingly good that is) Game of the Year - Virtua Fighter 4 Yeah it got great reviews, but I actually enjoyed playing it, which surprised me since I've never liked the series. XBox Game of the Year - Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance Gamecube Game of the Year - Pass PS2 Game of the Year - Tekken 4 Console of the Year - PS2, this year and every year. Game of the Year - Tekken 4, kind of by default. With the possible exception of some GameCube stuff, this year seemed pretty dry compared to last year.

Guest The Man in Blak Posted December 17, 2002 Report Posted December 17, 2002 Worst Game of the Year - Dungeon Siege Ooof...if I had been thinking about this overhyped piece of shit, I would have easily thrown down a vote for it being worst game or most disappointing game of the year.
