Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted December 14, 2002 How good is the Ohtani vs. Benoit match to determine the 1st WCW Cruiserweight Champion? I've seen the match listed in the other Ohtani thread so I know its good, but in comparison to their other matches how is it and what would be an accurate rating for it? I've seen the match listed in the other Ohtani thread so I know its good, but in comparison to their other matches how is it and what would be an accurate rating for it? I really love that match, it's JIP but it's still short anyway, and apparently all the good stuff is left in. I've seen two others(super tombstone, Wildbomb finish) but not sure of the date, my junior tapes are real messes, got them before I discovered Jeff Lynch. But from the ones I've seen, it's probably my favorite. I'd go ****1/4. Great selling by both guys, Ohtani is excellent as the underdog that just gets his ass handed to him by the Gagin monster. Probably stands out more, because all the pointless mat stuff is cut out, that and the great finish.
Guest blachuuh_monkey Report post Posted December 14, 2002 I totally agree with CS except for the fact that all the mat stuff is pointless. I prefer to se the early build up to all the bigger spots late in the match. Of course, I just hate to watch any match clipped or JIP no matter how bad or good it is. The two you're talking about are most likely from the BOTSJ '95. I haven't seen the league match, but the final between them (the one with super tombstone finish) isn't as good as I expected from the two of them. Apparently, the WCW Cruiserweight title match is the one to see between them.
Guest blachuuh_monkey Report post Posted December 14, 2002 The WCW Cruiserweight match (from what I have seen of it since it's JIP) is far superior to the super tombstone match. It would probably be a lot better if the first have of the match was on my tape but it's stil great nonetheless. I would say around ****1/2 from what I've seen of it.
