Unforgiven 2001

Recommended Posts

Guest Anglesault

I was watching my Unforgiven '01 DVD today, and I cam across the WCW Tag Title Match. Good Golly was that bad. No one in that match (Besides Richards, who technically wasn't in the match) showed ANY effort. And the match sucked big time.

This reminded me of the Tag title match at Summerslam. That was quite bad as well.

So then, I thought back to match between the respective partners of Taker and Booker at No Mercy '01 (God hates me) And HOOIE, that match was bad. The Stacy/Torie match was easily three times better.

So, I went on the WWF Tag Title match at Vengeance, a truely awful exhibition.

Now, I'm not going to bring up the common link, but I think you can put the pieces together. I hope that doesn't take away from the match at Wrestlemania that I am SO looking forward to. Your thoughts?

Kane and Test suck.

We get it already.

I'll give you credit for finding a creative way to say it though.

That's why  I gave you credit for creativity.  At least you came up with a new way to say they sucked rather than the way you always say it.

I think I get you Anglesault. You are saying the tag division has sucked tha last 6 months or so and looking at the WM match, things don't look to be getting any better.

Six months?  The tag division has sucked since Benoit and Jericho lost the belts the Smackdown before KOTR 2001, and that was an abberation as the division also sucked when the Two Man Power Trip and the Dead Brothers were fighting over the titles.

That means the division has sucked almost non-stop since Wrestlemania X-7, as Edge and Christian dropped the tag titles to Kane and Taker about a week or two into April.

And look who was on one of the teams that killed the tag division!

Kane v. Test from No Mercy did not suck.  It wasn't a classic, but it was a pretty decent match.

I don't think He Who Is Feuding With Angle is nearly as responsible for killing the tag division as He Who Single-Handedly Buried All Of ECW And WCW.

He Who Is Feuding With Angle is capable of having good ***1/2 matches with the right opponent (and not necessarily being the broomstick, either), but not a **** or ***** masterpiece.

Are you thinking of the Stacy/Torrie match they had before that? Both matches had at least one blonde and one person with some form of leather, but the ladies were much better.

And who exactly is that opponent? God?

Did you even watch the match, Anglesault?  It was pretty solid.

Of course, you're just making fun of it because your Smark Board Character requires you to hate Kane and Test and everything they are involved in.  Even if you liked it in real life, you'd never admit it on the board, because it would be out of character.

Oh, I loved that match. The whole "Who can get the Big Boot " Psychology left me on the edge of my seat.

It wasn't a psychology driven match, but it still worked quite well.  If I remember correctly, it had a pretty good build, and some good "hoss on hoss action".

If I remember correctly, it had two men lumbering around trying to kick each other. Nick Patrick put the most effort in.

Damn right yodeler, Anglesault's gimmick is wearing thin. Time for him to be re-packaged as an evil dentist!

Kane had a ***1/4 match with everyone's favorite Little Bitch himself, X-Pac, at Armageddon 1999.  If he was ever able to shake the habits he's gotten into as Taker's sidekick, he could take it up a few notches and have a good match with another decent big man, someone like a Vader or Bigleow when they were in their prime.

I think the best candidate for such a match would be Mike Awesome if the WWF ever lets him back into the ring.

So, Vader or Bigelow five years ago or Awesome before 2001? In othe words, never?

Hoss on Hoss Action?  That sounds SO much like a film that Val Venis made a long time ago that he's trying to forget.

Depending upon Brock Lesnar's classification as a Hoss, HE could be a possibility when the roster splits after Wrestlemania.

I know it's not "cool" among the smarks, but I kinda enjoy power matches.  For example, I understand that Kronik are horrible wrestlers, but it was still pretty damn cool watching them do sloppy, reckless throws and slams on Kaientai the Smackdown before Unforgiven.

But I still hate the Big Show.

power matches *can* be good, we just havent seen any recently, and kane v test was watchable, but still a long way from a good match.  tag match at mania will probably suck, due in a large part to the presence of billy gunn and the APA.  by the way, what are the other teams in the match? (hardys and dudleys?)

Maybe it's just me but I don't think Kane is THAT bad. Mostly his opponents are more sucky than he.Kane has really a lot of decent matches. Some pretty good ones too.No Main Event matches but that's obvious. ANd as far Test goes. Put him with a good opponent and he *does* get a good match. Remember Survivor Series. I thought Edge carried him to a really good match imho. But to get back on topic:

the Tag Division has sucked since Benoit&Jericho lost the titles back in may last year and signs are (the WWF passed too many good oppurtunities up to form one heck of a division) the Edge&Christian,Hardyz and Dudleyz years are over.

of course test could have a decent match if paired with a decent opponent.  it would really show how bad he really is if he couldnt for chrissakes.  and edge v test was a decent match at survivor series, but he couldnt follow it up, and leads me to believe that the match was all edge, which would be true, and says absolutely nothing for the abilities of test.

I like a good power match as long as the power moves are cool to see.  Lately, all power matches are press slams and spinebusters.

I'm planning to buy the No Mercy tape this Saturday and you all are making me wary of plunking down my $19.95--even though I'll just dub the tape and return it.  Now, say one good thing about this tape so that I won't feel bad for paying for it.
