DVD releases for 12/17

Finally, some decent releases for once.

The Back to the Future Trilogy

At long last, after years of waiting, one of the most requested film trilogies ever finally arrives on DVD. The 3 disc set comes fully loaded with a lot of special features, including deleted scenes, commentaries and more.

Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course

Silly, fun feature film for Steve Irwin is really only for his fans. The disc comes with commentary by the director.

Minority Report

One of my favourite films of the summer arrives in a not so loaded 2 disc special edition. I'm not crazy about this trend of making 2 disc SE's when the features on the 2nd disc could easilly fit on the first (see: The Others).

Wendigo

Latest independent fright film from Larry Fessenden. The disc comes with a featurette and commentary by Fessenden.

'Till next week.

This is a no-brainer. A very fun trilogy.

I haven't seen Minority Report, so that'll be a rental.

FINALLY!! I'll be getting this one either on Christmas or on Boxing Day.

Now if only the OTHER most-requested trilogy ever (Indiana Jones) would get here sooner than next Christmas, I'd be all set.

The Back to the Future trilogy was the main reason I got a DVD player three years ago. You know, back when it was supposed to be released in late 1999 or early 2000 or late 2000 or etc.

I'm anxious to rent Minority Report and I wanna see the Crocodile Hunter movie. After being bombarded by my friends' choice of 40 Days and 40 Nights two weeks ago, my cynical movie powers are fading. Thank God I have Manos to regenerate my faith in hating movies.

40 Days and 40 Nights....me so sorry.

For everybody that got/want/getting the BTTF trilogy....might wanna wait until February. This comes from IGN....

One of the biggest DVD releases of the year hit stores on Tuesday, but the three-disc set of the Back to the Future movies has a little problem that Universal doesn't want you to know about (until February 2003, at least). The anamorphic widescreen transfers on Back to the Future II and Back to the Future III were framed improperly, which means that elements in the picture that should be visible are cropped out.

Now, the studio is aware of this problem, and there will be a replacement program in effect starting in February, but that information isn't being made readily available for the people headed down to the store to fork out $40-$50 for the three-disc set. Thankfully, some store employees have smartened up and are telling customers about the problem, but Universal still has a multi-million dollar advertising campaign in effect for the release. They want as many copies to be sold through Christmas as possible, and then in February those people who bought the messed up DVDs will be able to send the discs to the studio for replacement copies.

This isn't an isolated problem with just a small amount of the shipment affected. Every copy of BTTF 2 and BTTF 3 on store shelves is affected by the bad framing. Everyone who buys the set will have the "defective" DVDs.

Our pal Bill over at The Digital Bits got his hand on the email that Universal is sending to people who ask them about the problems:

"Thank you for your email. Universal Studios will exchange Back to the Future parts 2 and 3 for copies with the updated framing in late February 2003. You may send the DVDs back now or wait until February. Please send Back to the Future disks 2 and 3, without the case, and a letter with the following information: Name, Full Mailing Address, Daytime Phone Number, Reason for Return and Return Address. Send to:

Back to the Future DVD Returns

PO Box 224468

Dallas, Texas 75260

Thank you,

Universal Studios Customer Service"

I was gonna old off until Febuary to get the new discs, but they had it on sale near my place for $30.00. I've already called the number to switch my discs, so I won't have to wait until Febuary after all.

I think Full Moon's latest epic, Bleed, comes out this week, with an actual release with special features and stuff, not one of those iffy, rental-only "double features" discs as of late. It's got Debbie Rochon in it, so even knowing nothing else about the film I'll still probably rent it ;)

I hope it's good stuff. After waiting with such anticipation for Jigsaw I was pretty disappointed.

Oh, I guess it comes out next week (checking Tempe's site, it does; they've just had it on pre-order there, sorry for the mix-up) because I was at Hollywood today and they didn't have a display box. Apparently Full Moon (excuse me, "Shadow Entertainment" ;)) has a new neo-slasher/Scream rip-off out. It's called Cut Throat for those who are interested. As much a Full Moon fan I am, I hate those kind of movies and personally won't be seeing it.
