Guest GameCop Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Personally, I'll never forget Flair outlasting 29 other competitors, en route to winning the Royal Rumble and the WWF title. Certainly, a match and moment for the ages; one that will be indelibly engraved in my mind, forever. Not to mention, seeing Cactus Jack get pedigreed into the unforgiving thumbtacks at Royal Rumble 2000 will also be ingrained in my head for a very long time. What's your favorite RR moment? What's the most overrated moment or match? The most underrated?
Guest dreamer420 Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Ax and Smash as numbers 1 and 2 in 1989. When their music played twice in a row and they started hammering each other it was a great moment.
Guest chirs3 Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 As silly as this one may be, I can't help but giggle every time I remember Maven eliminating the Undertaker, and JR's reaction. That's definitely one of my favorites.
Guest GeneMean Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 My fave moment is the way Heenan went bonkers when Flair came out so early and would then get all worked up anytime someone touched or got near Flair.
Guest Respect The 'Taker Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Royal Rumble 2000 had all of my favourite moments, and i've seen every Rumble there is to see. Cactus Jack vs Triple H - The evil HHH and the gore-freak, Cactus Jack had the PERFECT build up and the most mind blowing pay off for a match. I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole time and FUCK, did i mark out when Jack kicked out of the Pedigree. The Rumble itself was also awesome, the Rock-Show um..er...showdown was done very well. Illusion - Bang Bang!
Guest MaxPower27 Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Moment: "And that's why I kicked you leg outta your leg!" Match: HHH v. Cactus or Bret/Owen v. Quebecers
Guest dreamer420 Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 My fave moment is the way Heenan went bonkers when Flair came out so early and would then get all worked up anytime someone touched or got near Flair. Heenan's entire commentary is worth the rental price alone on this tape.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 The very first time I ever paid attention to pro wrestling was watching Flair win the Rumble when I was a kid. But I was still convinced it was pretty stupid so I shortly forgot about it afterwards. Probably Rock vs Foley in the I Quit match, just because it was what made me stick around and see why my friends thought this whole wrestling thing was so exciting. I have to admit that even as a complete mark, the Road Dogg vs Bossman match before it failed to amp me up at all. =b
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 best moment - Flair wins the rumble and the title or the entire HHH/Cactus match worst - Vince wins the rumble or the Bret/Luger "tie"
Guest eiker_ir Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 i also liked when Maven eliminted Taker and started jumping up and down celebrating, Taker's reaction was great too.......
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 For me my favourite moment is when Pete Gas strangled himself on the bottom rope when doing a run-in in the 2000 Rumble. If you've got the DVD or Video, play it back now to one of the times the MSP do a run-in and keep your eye on Pete Gas...you'll die laughing.
Guest Downhome Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 God, just end this thread now. The Owen Hart moment, is without a doubt, the greatest moment in the history of the Royal Rumble in WWE. I'll never forget it, period. It was one of the most emotional moments ever, and quite frankly, is one of my favorite moments EVER. I'll never forget Owen messing up the line, God bless him, and I'll never forget him putting down Bret on the screen as he was being helped to the back. The Bret/Own storyline is the way storylines are MEANT to be done, and this was one of the biggest parts of it, which really started it all.
ChrisMWaters Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 My favorite Rumble moments...from watching tapes of all of them...well, from the Rumble matches anyway... 1989: Damien eliminates Andre the Giant. Ax and Smash as 1 and 2 respectively. 1992: Ric Flair outlasts everyone. 1993: Jerry Lawler's outfit. ^_- 1996: Jake the Snake Roberts torturing Jerry Lawler with the python. 1999: GILLBERG! 2000: Mr. Bob Backlund's surprise Entry. 2001: Drew Carey 2002: Maven eliminates Undertaker. BTW...was anyone at Royal Rumble 1994? And if so...did you have a good seat to see who's feet REALLY touched first between Hart and Luger?
Guest Bricks Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 - The aforementioned Pete Gas strangling himself on the bottom rope. - Drew Carey - Too Cool and Rikishi dance in the 2000 Rumble. - It was disturbing, yet part of me liked Rock bashing Mick's brains in with 11 chair shots. - Flair eliminates Big Boss Man and is all alone in the ring when the buzzer sounds off and Roddy Piper enters the Rumble to a huge pop. - And last, but definetley not least... "And that's why I kicked your leg out of your, umm, leg!" There are probably countless others, but those come to mind right now.
Guest bob_barron Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Favourite moments- (a certain wrestler winning the I-C title is #1) Hogan-Warrior RR90 Ric Flair showing why he is WOOOOOO the man at RR92 Owen kicking Bret's leg out of his leg RR94 Taker putting HBK's wrestling career on hiatus in 1998 HHH v. Foley RR2000 Rikishi-Too Cool dancing and Bulldog's final NA PPV RR2000 RR2001 as a whole except for Chyna v. Ivory Jericho v. Rock, Flair kicking Vince's ass, Regal winning the I-C title RR2002 Least favourite moment- I will go to my grave convinced HBK's feet hit the floor at RR95. Bulldog was screwed
Guest Mr Monday Night Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Fav Rumble Moments: Tazz's debut Cactus/HHH Drew Carrey Jackie backin dat azz up
ChrisMWaters Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Oh...another fav Rumble moment...1991 Royal Rumble: Luke sets the record for the shortest time in the Royal Rumble.
Guest blachuuh_monkey Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Flair winning the Rumble is my favorite moment followed closely by Owen's great line from the 1994 Rumble. Best match Cactus vs HHH ***** 1992 Rumble ***** Jericho vs Benoit - Ladder Match ****3/4 Rockers vs Orient Express from the 1991 Rumble is a very good (****1/4) tag match that never gets talked about. One of the best WWF PPV matches to that point.
Guest godthedog Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 flair's win was easily the best moment. it changed the makeup and expectations of every rumble afterward, & set the standard by which they're all measured. worst moment is easy too: mae young.
Guest Human Fly Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Hogan-Warrior RR90 That was awesome. You want to talk about an angle that was built up perfectly it was Warrior - Hogan WM6. Jesse Venturas commentary after Warrior gets eliminated and comes back in and beats up the heels is classic.
Guest CED Ordonez Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Kaientai's repeated entries into the 2000 Rumble, notable for TAKA getting launched over the top rope and injured badly and J.R.'s quote of "Well, Funaki's been eliminated for about the eighth time tonight."
Guest crandamaniac Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 My favorite Rumble moment? Let's see... Road Dogg's Fetal Position strategy?....No, too stupid and cowardly. TAKA's head bouncing off the floor?...No, too brutal. I got it! Best moment that I've seen (haven't seen RR '92 so I can't choose that) would have to be Austin winning in 2001.
Guest edo Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Why is Bushwhacker Luke always credited for being in the Rumble the shortest time? In RR89, Warlord is eliminated by Hulk Hogan in 1 second (literally, steps in and is clotheslined out) whereas Luke had to be hauled all the way across the ring by Earthquake which took about 4 seconds. I have similar sentiments about the RR moments mentioned by everyone else in this thread and I'd also add Big John Studd and Jim Duggan winning because it was a time when Main Eventers weren't guarenteed to win the Rumble and it wasn't a pick between only a handful of wrestlers (or in 1998's case, it was only ever going to be Austin).
Guest LatinoHeat Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 BTW...was anyone at Royal Rumble 1994? And if so...did you have a good seat to see who's feet REALLY touched first between Hart and Luger? I've always wondered this. I thought Lugers feet hit first since he was standing when he fell and bret was sideways.
Guest bob_barron Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 I've heard from people that Luger hit first
Guest papacita Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 RR2001 as a whole except for Chyna v. Ivory ::hits bob with a potato:: My favorite moment...I'd say HBK winning the 95 Rumble, just because during that match he went from being my least favorite wrestler to my favorite wrestler. Vader going wild at Rumble 96 was pretty cool. I marked out for the Perfect/Flair brawl from Rumble 93. Cactus, Mankind and Dude Love all entering Rumble 98 Least favorite...um...either Mae stripping or Vince winning in 99...or the Undertaker b.s. from 94.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Heenan's commetary during the Bushwhackers/Beverly Brothers match at RR '92.
Guest Army Eye Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Cactus Jack vs. HHH. The buildup was super, but I still wasn't expecting a match anywhere near what we got. I was totally blown away. Flair's rumble win + Heenan's commentary is a great one too, but it wasn't quite the same as I didn't see it live, only a rental years well after the fact.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 worst - Vince wins the rumble Eh? If you had the book to change the finish and your final four are the Big Bossman, D'lo (who was even more midcard and paired with the atrocious Mark Henry), Vince, and the already-established Steve Austin, I'd go for the shocking Vince win myself. Wouldn't you?
Guest Army Eye Posted December 18, 2002 Report Posted December 18, 2002 Obviously if you had the book you don't have to have THAT final four. It was just such a joke because McMahon wasn't even in the match until the very end. The other 28 guys eliminating each other was just a total waste of time and stupid to boot. If you enter at the beginning and can leave the ring and just come back at the end of the Rumble and win, why doesn't EVERYONE do that?
