Biggest sports disappointment/bust

Ricky Williams: New Orleans Saints.

Take your turf toe and anxiety elsewhere, buddy.*

* that statement was NOT meant to offend anyone.

I think Ricky would have been a bust for the Saints no matter what he did. I mean, it cost them HOW MANY picks to get that guy? Just not worth it.

EDIT: Oops. I guess I had Deuce on the brain.

Does anyone remember Ben McDonald? He was a pitcher for the Orioles, and I recall when I was little I had his rookie card and it was worth $30. Then I never heard of him again.

Aundray Bruce would be another bust. He was picked No. 1 overall by Atlanta as a linebacker out of Auburn. He's more of a bust than fellow No. 1 pick Dan Wilkinson, a DT who was picked by the (you guessed it) Bengals.

I remember him. He had a good couple years I think

I don't think he would. He just had what seemed like a breakout season. It's not uncommon for NFL players to seemingly have a breakout season only to return to earth quickly.

Hell people were calling Priest Holmes the next breakout star who comes back to his mediocre roots before this season. It was for good reason too.

Gino Toretta

Eric Crouch

I wouldn't call either of these guys "biggest disappointment/bust", because neither guy was expected to do anything in the NFL. Torretta was drafted very late, and anybody who thought Crouch could play QB in the NFL should have their head examined.

Nobody has mentioned Bo Jackson yet? Not really a bust per se, because of the injury, but a disappointment since we didn't get to see how good/great of an NFL player he could have been.

How about Steve Avery? The guy had three good years and just flat out dissapeared

I have a Natrone Means rookie card. I bought it before the season after his one breakout season and I thought Wow this is gonna be worth something one day and then he ended up being a bust. NATRONE MEANS YOU COST ME THOUSANDS PERHAPS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS! Luckily I still have a Bledsoe rookie. My dad has Mark McGwire rookie and Nolan Ryan rookie cards.....hell he has the non censored Billy Ripken card where Ripken has fuck face written on his bat B-) .

Anyone with a brain cell knew Mandrich would flop. The guy was an obvious steriod user, and only overpowered college players. Something you can't get away with in the NFL.

Bo Jackson would of been better if he would of played either Baseball or Football full time.

How about the 2002 Bears? THAT'S a disappointment. They went from beating everyone last season, and now "below average" is the best they can finish.

Josh Booty (Quarterback, Shortstop?)

Came out of Evangel High School in northeast Louisiana as the first product of this athlete factory. He held the national passing yardage record before Tim Couch surpassed it several years later.

Signed with the Florida Marlins at #6 in the MLB draft after signing a letter of intent to play QB at Louisiana State. His baseball career was a HUGE flop and spent probably 5 years debating/negotiating an out on his contract to go play football.

When he got to LSU, the team had just gotten two other highly recruited QBs after years of QB recruits thinking that they wouldn't get a chance to start because Booty would come back. He, Rohan Davie, and Craig Nall ended up in a huge battle over who got the spot and coach Gerry Dinardo played musical chairs before settling on Booty.

The only things Booty accomplished were pissing off his teammates and causing LSU to lose to Alabama-Birmingham, who was in their first year as a Division I team.

Rohan Davie eventually got the starting QB spot during the 2000 Peach Bowl and lead LSU to a huge victory over Georgia Tech. Booty went to the draft after losing his starting position and went in the sixth round. AFAIK, he's still on the practice squad somewhere.

The next season, Rohan Davie led LSU both as a QB and a co-captain to their first SEC title game, their first SEC title since the mid-80's by beating #2 Tennessee, and their first Sugar Bowl victory since the 1960's by SOUNDLY thumping Big Ten champion Illinois.

How about Dimitrius Underwood?

The guy is the posterchild for mental illness, including at least one sucide attempt and, IIRC, is now involved in a cult.

I thought Underwood was playing for the Cowboys. I remember reading a story about how he and Alonzo Spellman (another mental case) had bonded together on that team.

That appears to have been an old article that I read where his mother alleged a "church" was influencing her son's erratic behavior.

My reasoning for calling him a bust:

"The first round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 1999, Dimitrius signed a $5.3 million contract before disappearing from training camp. Underwood, an ordained minister, later slit his own throat in from of his two 17 month old twins. His mother became concerned that Dimitrius was involved in a cult and at one point she even considered suing his church."

Dimitrius Underwood should never of been drafted in the First Round. Nick Saban didn't even give Underwood any praise. Everyone but Dennis Green thought it was a bad pick. But Denny thought he could get away with drafting a "troubled" player like he had Moss the year before. When Underwood spent one morning at training camp, Green said "he was a bonus pick".

Thomas Jones, RB, Arizona Cardinals -- He was picked No. 6 overall, and hasn't done anything since. He's constantly battling just to be the starting tailback on a sorry running team. The only good game I remember him having was against the Seahawks this year when he had 173 yards.

As a Cardinals sympathisizer, I can assure you I never expected anything out of Thomas Jones.

Who's that good college player Bo Jackson ran over on Monday Night Football?

"Touchdown" Tommy Vardell did zippo for The Browns. The guy's first TD came in his 2nd and last season w/ The Browns. Don't know what happened to him after that.

Thomas Jones will leave Arizona, and become a All-Pro. It happened to Hearst and Rice.
