Triple H out 2-3 weeks, and that’s good news

TAMPA, Fla. – Dec. 17, 2002 – Various injuries to Triple H’s right thigh will keep the Game out of the ring for two to three weeks. But Triple H was extremely relieved to get that prognosis today, as he feared the injury could have been a lot more serious.

The new World Heavyweight Champion was diagnosed Monday with a partially torn right quadriceps muscle, which would not necessarily require surgery. It was suspected that the injury occurred during his best-of-three-falls match with Shawn Michaels at Sunday’s Armageddon.

Triple H came to the SmackDown! taping here today – he often attends television events even when he’s not booked – but flew in the early afternoon to Birmingham, Ala., to see Dr. James Andrews, the surgeon who operated on the Game when he tore his left quadriceps in May 2001.

“I’m thinking about getting a house there, I’m there so much,” Triple H said with a slight smirk, referring to Birmingham.

Andrews is widely considered to be the top surgeon of his kind in the country. Even though other doctors had told Triple H it was a partial tear of the right quad, he was nervous that a more through examination by Andrews would reveal a complete tear, or something else that needed to be surgically repaired and thus keep him out of action for months.

After his appointment with Andrews, the Game immediately flew back here for the SmackDown! taping. When he arrived, at about 8:15 p.m., he was grinning from ear to ear. Andrews determined that the partial tear of the right quad was an old injury. The Game also has a massive hematoma – a solid ball of coagulated blood – in the outside of his right quad, and swelling throughout the muscle. But he will merely need to rest and rehabilitate – and not wrestle – for two to three weeks.

After missing eight months in 2001 for a completely torn left quad, it’s safe to say that the Game was relieved that he’d only be out a few weeks.

Triple H said that the problems with his right quad started last Monday on RAW, during his match with Jeff Hardy.

“I just hit my leg,” he said. “I had a Charley horse, nothing major. It’s something you get all the time. It was right in the front of my thigh. It wasn’t bad at all. I just didn’t train my legs for a week; I figured I’d give it a little bit of rest. But it wasn’t bad. I didn’t even think twice about it.”

The Game wrestled Friday at a non-televised event in Norfolk, Va., and Saturday in Ft. Myers, Fla., and said his leg felt fine during both matches. It started stiffening after his match on Saturday.

“I got done (with the match) and it was a little bit tighter,” he said. “I must have whacked it at some point during the match. By the time I drove two hours from Ft. Myers to Ft. Lauderdale (the site of Armageddon), I could barely get out of the car. My leg was completely locked up. It felt like I had a softball under the muscle.”

He said he could barely move the leg, and that it was even tighter on Sunday morning. He spent virtually the entire day on Sunday, before his match, in the trainers’ room, getting heat, ice, ultrasound, electronic stimulation and massage on the muscle.

“Nothing worked,” he said.

Finally, a doctor gave him an anti-inflammatory to help with the swelling and pain, and the Game heavily taped his leg – which was visible during the match.

“The doctor said, ‘Be very careful. This thing is so tight that if you force it into a stretch, you could tear it completely,’” Triple H said. “But I went 45 minutes, two-out-of-three (falls) with Shawn. That’s what I had to do, so I did it.

“I’ve not seen the match yet. I guess it came out alright. But I didn’t feel like I was able to give it my best. I was in a lot of pain. I could barely move it. I could hardly run. I couldn’t jump.”

Obviously, he was in more pain after the match. On Monday morning, he went to an Orlando hospital for an MRI, which revealed the partial tear. Doctors there assumed it was caused during the match. But Andrews, who had the Game’s medical records on hand, said the tear happened sometime in the past.

So while the Game wasn’t able to jump during his match Sunday, he was practically jumping for joy today, knowing he’d only have to miss a few weeks of in-ring time.

Even though I can't stand HHH, well, his current gimmick, he still went into his match at Armageddon, knowing he could have torn his quad completely. I've always respected HHH, knowing that he'll work through an injury, as long as it's not too serious. True, other wrestlers do that, but I respect guys that will do that. Now, I just hope this means that we won't see HHH on RAW for 2-3 weeks. :D

That's right HHH, just keep building up injuries...

Then you can join DiBiase and Steamboat...

steamboat was able to wrestle way past 40, and can still function perfectly well. trips will be lucky if he's still wrestling at 37, and with all the abuse his body's already taken, there's no way he'd even be able to walk at steamboat's age without a lot of medication.

I just meant that they have career-ending injuries.

Don't get so technical :P

Don't we all.

Of course, HHH will probably still have the main event interview for the next 2-3 weeks. I do admire his ability to work a PPV despite having the injury though. Angle as well. Steve McNair would be proud...

I'd feign happiness but we all know he'll just fill what would have been his match time with main event interview time anyway because "he knows how to draw money"

Well, if he worked the amtch knowing he could have a repeat of an injury that put him out for eight months, I'd hope that gives some people a reason to respect him a little more. Granted, I hate the things he does backstage, I don't think he's an entertaining wrestler, and I know other guys work through injuries, but that's still impressive.

I'm not saying it makes him God, folks, just that he's not doing himself any favours and deserves some respect for working through and taking an exponentially increased risk of a potentially serious injury.

It still might require surgery depending on how it heals, I am still holding out hope

What a guy that Triple H is. Comes to the shows even on his day off to err.....help the creative team come up with good ideas.

Don 't worry. I'm sure they'll find a way to make sure the main event revolves around Triple H anyways.

The good - three weeks not having to watch HHH wrestle.

The bad - three weeks of JR talking endlessly about "The Game" and when he's coming back.

I'm sure he'll be on TV. We'll be spared JR's rants about when he'll be back but we'll have to see him taking up time, not wrestling.

Gee, it's really great to know Hunters there to offer his unbiased expert advice and make sure everything runs smoothly, on the show thats doing better than his show.

Christ, I didn't know his body was in that sort of condition. I think it was godthedog who was saying in another thread just how badly his work in 2000 burned Triple H out. Triple H needs to bite the bullet and just fully heal, become part of management if he wants to or something, or he'll be in a wheelchair at a young age. The man's body is falling apart.

I think he's only 33 or 34 years old. His body is already fucked up.

Wasn't he out for nine months after the first quad injury? So I don't know if allowing his body to fully heal is the fix in this situation.

Maybe he needs to stop using all of his favorite "supplaments".

Triple H's boddy is so fucked up because he has been abusing it with steroids for years and years.

I think we'd see less injuries if everyone was as flexible as RVD. I don't remember him getting injured besides one broken bone.

Well hopefully it's steroids that's eating his body up. That way we can all laugh at him and feel no regret for doing it.

I don't care what anyone says, but a crippled up HHH would deserve to be laughed at if steroids got him in that condition. After seeing what steroid abuse did to Super Star Billy Graham no wrestler or anyone for that matter deserves pity for steroids abuse destroying their bodies when they were full aware of the dangers.

This might be the only time I'd ever say that I want to see HHHeMan wrestle as much as possible...

... if only to expedite the deteriation of his health and his downward spiral into a painful retirement.

And not for nothing, but I would never compare wrestling greats like Steamboat and DiBiase to that orange bloated weasel. I'd liken him more to Superstar Billy Graham, for whom I also have no great love.

(Psst... hey Hunter, here's the world's smallest violin playing just for you...)

Hmm...let me see...what injuries has Hunter had since he joined DX?

Bum leg, which kept him out of the WWF Title Tourney of 98.

Various small injuries in the matches with Foley

Torn Quad.

Whatever kept him from winning the match with Taker this past KotR...

Crushed Trachea....

And now this.

Soon we'll be nicknaming HHH "Johnny Longtorso"...because he'll be coming to events in pieces.

It's not just HHH's fault. Look what Meltzer just posted.

From Wrestlingobserver.com

--A 23-year-old bodybuilder was arraigned Tuesday after being arrested Friday when customs intercepted a package being mailed to him from China filled with $40,000 worth of steroids. Nicholas Bradley of Corona, when arrested, told police he was associated with Ultimate Fighting. Anyway, they interviewed the local promoter, Terry Trebilcock (King of the Cage), who said he had never heard of Bradley and gave this gem of a quote saying that steroids are not something Ultimate Fighters use: "Bodybuilders use them, but not Ultimate Fighters." (thanks to Joel Nurre)

Damn Joanie Laurer and her bad influence!!!

So will you laugh at Guerrero and Benoit when they are in the same condition that Graham is too? They are a couple of jakked up monkeys that everyone seems to forget about for some reason.

There's "use" and there's "abuse", Dreamer.

Benoit and Guerrero, while definately on 'roids, do not appear to be using NEARLY as much as Triple H. Look at Trips in 1995 compared to today... it's about as bad as comparing Randy Savage in the 1980's to Randy Savage today.

teke, what's the difference? they all use them. I seen Eddie in person, and his veins are scarier looking than Steiner's. And he's atmost 5'7-5'8.

Personally I'd certainly prefer if neither one of them took steroids. They're too dangerous. I don't mark for muscles period.

Their frames are a lot smaller than HHH's. Look at Benoit and Guerrero early in their careers and compare their build to their current build. How can you really say that they are "users" and HHH is an "abuser"? They could be taking the same amount for all anyone knows.

good...i hope this is just the first in a long, painful string of injuries that culminate in leaving him completely crippled and in constant pain. he brought it on himself...now he has to live with it.

however, this won't stop him from stroking his cock on live tv, no doubt.

Even if he can't wrestle i'm sure he'll get his lengthy promo time so he can continue to babble incoherantly with Steiner to build up their epic match.
