Guest Choken One Report post Posted December 20, 2002 I might as well...Here MY personal pick Best Picture (Drama) Gangs of New York *Haven't seen any of these yet but I'll likely say Gangs will take me over Best Picture (Comedy/Musical) My Big Fat Greek Wedding *The only One I've seen and NOWAY will they be denied the award. Best Director Stephen Daldry, The Hours Peter Jackson, LOTR:Two Towers Spike Jonze, Adaptation Rob Marshall, Chicago Alexander Payne, About Schmidt Martin Scorsese, Gangs of New York *Haven't seen any yet but Likely They'll screw Scorsese and give it to Jonze. Best Actor (Comedy/Musical) Nicolas Cage, Adaptation Kieran Culkin, Igby Goes Down Richard Gere, Chicago Hugh Grant, About A Boy Adam Sandler, Punch Drunk Love *I've only seen Culkin, Grant and Sandler and I didn't get wowed over by any of those, So, Expect Cage to win for HIS bizzare performence. Best Actor (Drama) Adrien Brody, The Pianist Michael Caine, The Quiet American Daniel Day Lewis, Gangs of New York Leonardo Dicaprio, Catch Me If You Can Jack Nicholson, About Schmidt *Seen NONE of these but Leo ani't winning, Caine is too dull for my tastes, Never heard of Brody, Jack been there too much, go with Lewis. Best Actress (Comedy/Musical) Maggie Gyllenhaal, Secretary Goldie Hawn, The Banger Sisters Nia Vardalos, My Big Fat Greek Wedding Rene Zellwegger, Chicago Caterine Zeta-Jones, Chicago *How did Hawn in Banger sisters get nomed? I'm sure they was a better female in a comedy this year. The Chicago girls cancel each other out, I have NO idea what Secretary is, so I'm going with Vardalos who gave a good show. Best Actress (Drama) Salma Hayek, Frida Nicole Kidman, The Hours Diane Lane, Unfaithful Julianne Moore, Far From Heaven Meryl Streep, The Hours *Salma Hayek got nomed? Wow. Kidman and Streep cancel each other, Lane was too sexual for the academy to go with, leaving Popular Moore to win it. Best Screenplay (Orignal or Adapted) Chicago The Hours Far From Heaven Adaptation About Schimdt *I haven't read the screenplays nor seen the movies, so I can't comment on this one, but I expect them to go with Far from heaven. Best Supporting Actor Chris Cooper, Adaptation Ed Harris, The Hours Paul Newman, Road to Perdition Dennis Quaid, Far From Heaven John C. Rielly, Chicago *I love Rielly, HATE Newman, Quaid is having a career year, So I'll go with him. Best Supporting Actress Kathy Bates, About Schmidt Cameron Diaz, Gangs of New York Queen Latifa, Chicago Susan Sarandan, Igby Goes Down Meryl Streep, Adaptation *Can't they kill Streep for once? They aren't taking a Rap star for this award...Sarandan wasn't that good, and that leaves Bates and Diaz, I'll wink in Bates favor. Here are the TV nods: Drama Series: 24, Fox The Shield, FX Six Feet Under, HBO The Sopranos, HBO The West Wing, NBC. *Hardest one to pick, 24, Shield, Sopranos are my 3 favorite shows, however, W.W was somewhat weak this year, so was Sopranos, Six feet under was good, I'd vote for The Shield but I expect them to lean to 6feetunder. Actress, Drama: Edie Falco, The Sopranos Jennifer Garner, Alias Rachel Griffiths, Six Feet Under Marg Helgenberger, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Allison Janney, The West Wing *Falco was too bitchy for my taste, Garner is OVERrated, Janney is blah, Helgenberger isn't a actress on CSI...leaves with Griffiths to win it. Actor, Drama: Michael Chiklis The Shield James Gandolfini, The Sopranos Peter Krause, Six Feet Under Martin Sheen, The West Wing Kiefer Sutherland, 24 *I expect them to go against conventional wisdom and NOT pick Gandolfini, Sheen won't get it, either will Krause...so I am torn between Chiklis and Sutherland...I'll tap Sutherland. Musical or Comedy Series: Curb Your Enthusiasm, HBO Friends, NBC Sex and the City, HBO The Simpsons, Fox Will & Grace, NBC *W&G will not win, Sex was too short this year, Simpsons sadly does not deserve this when it should go to Scrubs or Fraiser. The winner should be Curb but It'll get the Larry Sanders treatment...leaving Friends to pick up the award. Actress, Musical or Comedy Series: Jennifer Aniston, Friends Bonnie Hunt, Life with Bonnie Jane Kaczmarek, Malcolm in the Middle Debra Messing, Will & Grace Sarah Jessica Parker, Sex and the City *SJP has run her course, Hunt wasn't that golden, Kaczmerk is eh leaving us with Messing to win out. Actor, Musical or Comedy Series: Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm Matt LeBlanc, Friends Bernie Mac, The Bernie Mac Show Eric McCormack, Will & Grace Tony Shalhoub, Monk *LeBlanc deserves this award, David isn't really acting on Curb, Bernie has been off this year, The darkhouse is Shalhoub... Miniseries or TV Movie: The Gathering Storm, HBO Live from Baghdad, HBO Path to War, HBO Shackleton, A&E Steven Spielberg Presents: Taken, Sci Fi *This is easy, Live from Baghdad OWNed all the other movies. Door to Door should replace Taken. Actress, Miniseries or TV Movie: Helena Bonham Carter, Live from Baghdad Shirley MacLaine, Hell on Heels: The Battle of Mary Kay Helen Mirren, Door to Door Vanessa Redgrave, The Gathering Storm Uma Thurman, Hysterical Blindness *I'll go with Carter but I haven't seen MacLaine or Thurman. Actor, Miniseries or TV Movie: Albert Finney, The Gathering Storm Michael Gambon, Path to War Michael Keaton, Live from Baghdad William H. Macy, Door to Door Linus Roache, RFK *Keaton was good, but Macy was Superb. Supporting Actress, Series, Miniseries or TV Movie: Kim Cattrall, Sex and the City Megan Mullally, Will & Grace Cynthia Nixon, Sex and the City Parker Posey, Hell on Heels: The Battle of Mary Kay Gena Rowlands, Hysterical Blindness *This goes to Mullally. Supporting Actor, Series, Miniseries or TV Movie: Alec Baldwin, Path to War Jim Broadbent, The Gathering Storm Bryan Cranston, Malcolm in the Middle Sean Hayes, Will & Grace Dennis Haysbert, 24 Michael Imperioli, The Sopranos John Spencer, The West Wing Donald Sutherland, Path to War Bradley Whitford, The West Wing *Nine Noms? Isn;t Sutherland Deceased? Imperioli was good but not great, Haysbert was great and should win, However, They'll hand it over to Sean Hayes. Pretty good nominations, nothing outright scandalous.
