comes out January 7th.

Considering it's been years and years, no one is as excited as me!!!

Who else here reads Jordan?

How many books in this series, total? Not just what's been published - how many does Jordan plan?

Personally, I wanted to read the books.....but I'll be damned if I'm going to start them, and finish the ones available, and have Jordan drag his ass for a few years putting out the next few.

I'd like to pick up the series only if it's complete.

I was under the impression that the tenth book would conclude the current story arc, and the next book would be a prequel. Whether or not that's the case remains to be seen.

I'd mostly given up on Jordan for reasons similar to those Vyce states. I'm a speed reader, and I hate starting a series that is not already finished. Williams's Otherland series almost killed me.

Oog.

I've had Winter's Tale since it came out, and still haven't read it. I was terribly frustrated with Crown Of Swords and Path of Daggers. I think it's pretty much fan consensus that the first 4 books were amazing and that Fires Of Heaven was still really good with a fantastic ending...but it's been all downhill from there on out.

Jordan spends wayyy too much time on unimportant details, and at this point in the game he's revealed that he can't write female characters with much depth at all. It was fine in the beginning, when we felt like we were still getting to know them, but if all Nynaeve is doing in the 10th book is continually tugging her braid and smoothing her skirts, I'm going to be royally pissed.

First five kick ass. The next two sort of meander around sort of covering plot points but also going into areas that really didn't need a hundred odd pages apiece to deal with, if they had to be dealt with at all. The last two have started to pick up the pace a bit.

I bought the first book in paperback, the second in softcover and the third in hardcover in the space of about six months. I thought it was going to be about five, maybe six books with the pace things were going.

Now its almost a decade later, I'm still reading the series. All I say is he'd better finish it before he dies, else I'll be royally pissed. He's not getting any younger.

I LOVED the Otherland series, but poor Tad, he's the one who made me as wary as I am.

I started Otherland right about when the 2nd of the 4 books came out, and I had to wait a few years to finish the series.

Thus, I don't want to get involved with Jordan's Wheel saga until I can read them all back to back.

Consider yourself lucky. I got hooked on the Otherland series when the first book came out in hardback in '98 and had to wait four years for it to get finished. It was well worth it, but fuck that was a long time.
